i think everyone has someone they like better. if he's the best rusher on the board at 17 i'd rather take another position.

Opinion- (since you asked)- My problem with Mingo is that I don't think he will be there for us to draft at 17. Last year, beginning in the middle of the 1st round there was a huge run on edge rushers. Think the same thing will happen here. He'll get snagged by someone looking to make a splash on defense (Jets?). He's the #4 DE/#5 OLB (#3 and #4, if you think he's better than Montgomery, his teammate) so he'll go quickly when that run starts.
If the Steelers don't like him and he's there for us, we may be able to trade down and pick up that extra second (Denver, GB, Houston) or third (Indy or Minn). If we take him, I won't be unhappy.

Thanks. I tune into the combine every year but this time around I want to have an idea who to already keep an eye out for. Not overly impressed with what I saw and read on this guy so far though, not enough to pass up Warmack if he's still there.

I'd take him at 17 without batting an eye. While he won't be an immediate every down player for us, I think he compares very nicely with Bruce irvin, who did good things on that young, energetic, and attacking Seattle defense. He'd come in on obvious passing downs and provide an immediate burst off the edge. From what I've seen on Mingo, he has a non-stop motor in pursuit of the ball and is involved in a surprising amount of plays far away from his DE spot. He'll win with speed and moves (as he learns more) in the NFL, not ever power.

You win ballgames in todays NFL by excellent QB play, protecting the QB, or stopping the QB. He'd help with the latter.

God knows we could use help with a pass rush. We have to start getting to the QB again. With the way our secondary is shaping up, we start getting pressure and you'll see those turnovers start to go up.

I completely agree. I honestly think that is our largest problem on D, the lack of pressure. Of course if you increase that pressure and you give the offense the ball at the 50 rather than our own 20, scoring will probably go up as well.

Agreed. I'd be more interested in Ogletree/Mintner/Womack, honestly. Star will go top 7, unless something bizarre happens.

even if he fell i'd be reluctant to pull the trigger. there's likely to be elite talent at more pressing needs. could easily be bpa meaning picking or trading down if the phone starts ringing.

Yea I think we have other needs, but who knows what will come our way. Kinda weird but for some reason I had a dream last night that we drafted Alec Ogletree in the 1st round. I've never had a dream like this before haha

    Are your dreams often accurate?

From what I've been reading, we may be in the market for a WR so don't count out the two big guys from Cal and Baylor. We need a number one receiver.

if we draft patterson at any point, I will worry about our scouting. the kid is an athlete no doubt. I watched him every week here at tenn and this kid is a headcase. I seen him give up on routes, he takes plays off when he is not involved, and he is not a good teammate from what has come out since dooley left. there is a reason he left so unpolished i think. trust me of the players coming out from tenn we dont want any of them. exception being rivera the te.

I mislead my own comment, I believe we do need a WR, but I think we don't use our #1 pick on one. Maybe 2nd round depending who's available. But as far as my dreams go, I'm not sure if how accurate they are, never had a dream like that one before LOL. Usually I dream i'm falling out of bed and right before i hit the ground I wake up.

Right now i'm all in on ansah...... mingo is so boom or bust it scares me.. besides, i think he's long gone by the time we pick, as is lotulelei, who i don't see getting past the raiders at #3... .... As far as wr is concerned, i'm keeping a close eye on de'rick rogers of tenn. tech.... i think he would make a good mid rs. pick unless he starts shooting up boards
