no one should get a free ride. You only sign him If he can show that he can contribute. Not just take snaps away from anyone else for no good reason.

the guy is asking for a second chance, I would at least give him a tryout

I do not begrudge any NFL player from chasing the money. It is a business and they're there to make money. You can tout team loyalty and all that sort of stuff, but why should a player play for less money than he is capable of earning so that the owners can make more money? This is not a charity event for them, it's how they support themselves. Are you going to turn down a raise at your job rather than earning the money that you're capable of earning, so that you remain loyal to them...... Especially when we were talking significant money, not a $0.25 per hour raise?

That said, if Bell wanted to try out for the Steelers, I don't see the problem there. However he would have to earn his spot on the roster. I personally think that he would play hard and give it his all, but I also think he would be a number three or four back at best. Running backs have a rough life in the NFL. They've only got a few years when they're really good and Bell is beyond those years.

I'd give him a tryout and if that works out, give him a camp spot and see if he can earn a roster spot. I wouldn't guarantee him anything tho.

We don't have enough carries to go around as it is.

But, if there are injuries, maybe you give him a tryout.

I remember that. Love Miller (miss him big time) sticking his hand in the camera.

Exactly. Derek Watt was underutilized as a FB but was valued as a special teamer. Bell gambled and lost. His career is over. There's always the USFL or CFL.

Bringing back Derek Watt next year is the X factor. He could be the missing piece of this puzzle. If this happens we immediately become the number 2 favorite in the AFC behind Mahomes.

That part jumped out at me, too. He wants to come back, but he is going to wait another month before he starts working out? He's kidding, right?

I think the plan was to come back, but well into the season his agent realized that Bell didn't need to play for the year to count. The Steelers could have tagged him again, but it would have been at a much higher number. His agent was an idiot and Bell was stupid to listen to him, but I don't think the plan was always to screw over his team.

One article I read said he wanted to wait to see if his foot felt ok

So is he out of shape and hurt

    Bell

“And I’m gonna be honest with myself, I got to go out there and be like, I’m going to put my foot in the ground. Do I feel it? Am I hurting? Can I go out there and really play again?

He wasn't that good with the last team he played for. That ship has sailed.

Maybe I misspoke. I meant that He would be taking away snaps from our main two RBs, and anyone new they brought in during spring training, preseason, and all the practices....which will all be done trying to learn a new system. They will need all the reps they can get....plus You know we will bring in younger guys to compete.

Bell is unique though, he was a very good route runner and Allen is all but gone. They could find some creative ways to get him involved with his dual threat ability, like Deebo Samuel.

Having said that, I don’t think he can play anymore, that will be his main obstacle.

maybe from the tryout they can tell if he’s worth getting practice snaps. Najee does seem to have found his groove a bit toward the end of the season, hopefully it carries over

    Le'Veon Bell = Axl Rose

Both wasted their prime in their fields of occupation....... football and rock'n'roll. Both highly talented, but huge disappointments.

I'd offer him a job as a waterboy and put it in the contract that he must wear a jester outfit in Steeler colors. Also in the contract would be the requirement for him to operate a t-shirt gun from which he must shoot prizes to the faithful while he gesticulates lewdly as if it were his ejaculate.
