See what happens when you make the playoffs.

For my season tickets way up high in section 521:

    Pre-season: $34 to $36
    Gold games: $84 to $89
    Black games: $95 to $104
    Premium games: $110 to $130

    Must be Bidenomics!

Been anywhere lately? Everything seems like it’s double or even triple anymore. Ask your boss for a cost of living adjustment and they have a thousand excuses to why you will only receive 3%.

Was just thinking this last week going out for dinner for two 20 yrs ago with a drink each splitting an app was like $50-80 when it cost $200 last week. Prices are crazy for everything. If I go out and pay under $7 for a beer it feels like stealing.

It's because we had to pay Austin to re-sign.

Yeah, but ticket prices for sporting events have been on this trajectory for some time, often outpacing inflation. My personal ire with it is how it's shaping/catering to wealthier attendees, in turn making the executives and ownership (and a fraction of players) wealthier in the process. Increased general ticket prices, luxury box accommodations (i.e., luxury capacity to general seating ratios), and increased charges for OOM viewing packages that lack customization are all contributing factors.

Further, you can end up with major events like the Super Bowl only offered to cities (which used to bid for, now selected by the league) that have a capacity for 70,000 and are located in better climates (50 degrees or above on game day) or have domed stadiums (often funded in large part by tax dollars) so its attendees (paying in the range of $12,000/ticket this year) aren't inconvenienced by less-than-ideal conditions and advertisers feel confident paying top dollar for viewership. These processes remove particular aspects of the game, and those locations lacking the friendly climate/domed stadium are ineligible from taking in the atmosphere and revenue that comes with its hosting.

Why buying tickets to a game has become so unaffordable

As another poster said it's happening everywhere. I'm not sure what it's like watching a game in that section. When I saw the prices I didn't think they were to bad in todays sad ass market but maybe that section of stadium ain't so good?

Most things have far exceeded the typical rate of inflation over the last couple years.
Take prices for things like concerts, and sporting. Events are through the roof right now.
Like most things in life you have to pick and choose what you can afford. As long as people continue to pay these prices, nothing is going to change.

Doesn't belong here. Go complain at your local political forum.

Its not a surprise. I would be more worried about the seat license fee! Hopefully that hasn't gone up

Unless they somehow revert back to the Steelers, I believe those prices are set by the individual who is selling them.

Most top entertainment these days is ridiculously overpriced by secondary markets those tickets are bought and sold by bots and controlled by billionaires reselling them. The concessions are just completely overpriced due to consumer demand. Small businesses and mostly restaurants have to raise their prices quite a bit in order to just survive. Some of this is economy based but most of it is greed. I used to see concerts for about $17.50 back in the 80’s but now those same level bands are selling $100 or much more. Same with NFL. Probably can see a Pirate game still for about $17.50 though as long as you don’t eat or drink anything. Bottom line the US Dollar has lost so much value over the years that it’s somewhat of a double attack. To put this in perspective. The US is currently 33 trillion dollars in debt and we pay down 1.6 billion a day but a good portion of people are still willing to live paycheck to paycheck while blowing money on non necessities. I don’t see this ending well but a good start would be getting rid of a bunch of crooked politicians and lobbyist.

Every city that pays for a significant part of the stadium cost with taxpayer money should have ticket price increase limits as part of their funding. Maybe they do here, dunno.

Seeing how they got sold out by nine fans, they better be hoping they're going to make big off season changes and a big draft. Or else it'll be worse for our fans packing out our own stadium.

In any first world economy you are always in either inflation or recession. Inflation as of December was around 3.5% which is very manageable. A perfect economy where both the business and consumer win is 2% to 2.5%. Also remember that inflation and recession are global issue, not just a local issues.

    Yes and no

If I sell my seat license I set the price

If someone doesn’t renew a seat license the Steelers set the price

The latter seldom happens but I’m guessing it’s when people die and the executor misses it or doesn’t want to deal with it

Of course the past couple of years are outliers, though again, one can also reference the general trend overall and drill down on specific categories showing significant variation, if so inclined, to try and determine if there is valid causation. The trend I was speaking to with respect to ticket prices to sporting events in general is one that can be seen over the last 20 years, not just two.

Nothing you said is incorrect, it's just very generalized. My day job has me occasionally involved with rooting around a variety of economic drivers, to differing micro and macro degrees, so I'm more nerdy at times with this sort of stuff. Fortunately my night job has me occasionally involved with craft beer connoisseuring.

There is a definite change in the pricing model for a lot of entertainment options these days. Not sure about the Steelers per se but I recall the Pens changing a lot, instead of the same price in a particular section with the first people to buy getting the front rows, now the first rows are priced much higher. I think the Steelers tier system is closer to dynamic pricing, where the demand is higher for certain opponents therefore they can extract more money.
