General consensus revolves around CB but only if someone like Nate Wiggins, Terrion Arnold or even Cooper DeJean is available. If not, the next best positional consensus is Offensive Tackle; namely Right Tackle. Only three names standout though, JC Latham from Alabama, Amarius Mims from Georgia or Taliese Fuaga from Oregon State (a potential fourth in Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma).

Wild card option would be Center. Graham Barton from Duke or even Jackson Powers Johnson from Oregon. Of the two, JPJ looks to be the best Center as Barton has only five starts in his College Career compared to JPJs 12; a First Team All American Award to his name as well.

I've seen 3 mocks so far that has the Steelers selecting Amarius Mims the big RT from Georgia. I have seen one that we pick the center from Oregon, Jackson Powers Johnson and one where we pick the lightning fast CB from Toledo Quinyon Mitchell. He is 6'0" and 190 and runs a 4.33 forty. Mitchell has elite ball skills picking off 5 passes and deflecting 16 in his junior year. Last year in his senior year he only had one interception but QB's just simply stopped throwing to his side of the field.

Agreed, though I'd add Kool-Aid to the list of CBs to consider.

JPJ is on the rise with the Senior Bowl visits, with some I've seen putting him in the Steelers territory in the low-20s. It'll be interesting to see if he keeps rising through the combine. I'm not big on Barton to fill center at that draft position though. I'd rather pass to the second and look to Frazier or Van Pran.

Not sure about that. In 2022 he had 19 passes defensed; last year it was 18. Not necessarily a knock on him, though there are some concerns with his technique in man coverage and in tackling bigger receivers/backs. Great physical skillset and zone reads, but I'm wary of him at 1.20 if one of the OTs is there.

I'd say 90% of mocks have the Steelers taking either a tackle, a cb, or JPJ. The oddballs still have us taking an OLB, a WR, or Michael Pennix.

Of the mocks collated on Walter Football since 1/20, 6 have us taking a tackle, 7 have us taking a cb, 2 have us taking an OLB, and one has us taking a WR.

OT, CB or C makes absolute sense

DT is going to become a big need very quickly also, and I wouldn’t hate it if they went there with 1.20 albeit I have no idea what the draft class is like or who might be available

I don't think there are any DT worth taking in the first round.

I left out Kool Aid deliberately. Generally speaking, high ranking Alabama Defensive Backs tend to get drafted very high and seldom get past the first 15. For that matter, I can forsee a scenario in which neither Kool Aid nor Terrion drop below that the same. Agree with you on Barton for his Senior Bowl no show crosses him off my list.

Frazier or Van Pran though I have been a Van Pran stan since the beginning of the season.

There isnt..... least not one that fits with the Steelers mold of them. 6'5, 295+ or greater with an arm length of at least 33 inches or more. Those would be the bare minimum requirements. No IDL has remotely close to that in the First Round... rather I should say Jer'Zahn Newton doesn't possess those measurables.

Some mocks have T'Vondre Sweat from Texas going in the second round. Sweat who played for the Longhorns is 6'4" and weighs 362.

Most mocks I've seen have another OT... which I wouldn't object to. But, I think DE is more of a priority. And Center in the 2nd round.

But you included Arnold? He's been showing an upward trajectory the past few weeks that often shows him as the first CB selected, while McKinstry is being seen in the 20s.

Don't know if that holds, of course, but not complaining if it did.

Arnold to be has a better chance of being within striking distance or at 20. I just don't see Kool Aid making it that far. Of course, Combine results for Kool Aid will be interesting for I personally don't trust his long speed.

I have mostly seen that we pick the center from Oregon JPJ.

I started a thread on Sweat in the draft forum, I think he's a guy to consider in the 2nd or 3rd round.
