Again way more important needs in the draft than a first rd guard ...

Decastro will fill in at RG...Beachum or foster at LG... The reason the running game faltered is because of the injuries... look at when adams was inserted into the starting lineup and when he got hurt...he was the key to the run game...we have plenty of guys that when healthy will be fine...

Now I ain't one to gossip and you didn't hear it here but, I thought early when Ben was healthy and we were running good. I do believe everyone was singing Willie's praises for run blocking. No?

the reason the run game sucked last year was because they never stuck with it. when you leading rusher is carrying the ball 8 to 10 times a game something is wrong. they did that even when the backs were averaging 4 yards a carry in a game. the injuries hurt, but thats just an excuse for not running the ball more.

I don't think it was the players, rather than how and when the running plays were called. I was calling them from my Steeler recliner. Way to predictable.

Another season on IR... what a shame. And just when things were getting interesting with him. Like Sepulveda, after awhile it kind of doesn't matter how good you are if you can't get your ass on the field.

Foster is now must-sign. And this definitely shakes up the draft. OL in round 1 is now a real possibility.

i dont understand. the article in the tribune said colon is a 6.5 million dollar hit to cap. we only save 1.2 if we let him go. why would wenot keep him if it is going to cost us that much?

If he does stay which after some thought I think he will he needs to be forced to wear knee and elbow braces. F it make him look like a fricking robot.

He finally got going in that Cincy game, but before that the was lookin average. He was playing like Kemo in his heyday here. Good run blocking, but will still kill you with penalties.

I'd be surprised if Ramon wasn't back, unless they figure to draft or sign a top tier guy and let Beachem be the back up??? Starks will be gone because they told him they won't let him compete for the starting job. They are giving it to one of the young guys, Starks just wants a chance to compete to be the starter. If they young guys are terrible at LT and Starks is available Colbert won't hesitate to resign him again.

maybe they are letting go this voice (colon to be released ) just to want to see if colon take a pay cut , the first time they asked him he did not so maybe they are trying in a differnt direction , btw if colon foster and starks are gone , we have to refill all the backup spot at least

He was only 5 games into a position change after being a Tackle his whole life...if he would have stayed healthy he would be a pro bowl caliber guard...unfortunately we know how the story keeps ending ...

I honestly don't think we save enough money to bother cutting Colon. We save something like 1.5 million. If you resign Foster for 2.5 million, you could actually give Colon a raise of a million and still have the same number of guards. No matter what everyone thinks of Colon as a player, he is better than Foster...period. Foster has played well for us, but he is best used at the RG position. I look at it like this, I would rather keep him one more year and then cut him next year if we need to. I think Starks will end up being back as well. He may thinks he isn't done starting in this league, but IMO he may be done unless Gilbert or/and Adams get hurt. I also think Legursky will be back.

To me our Oline currently looks like:

    Gilbert/Colon/Pouncey/DeCastro/Adams
    Starks/Legursky/Beachum/Malecki

I don't think we use a draft pick on an Olineman unless they have someone fall to them they just can't pass on.

To the people who know about the business side of things, because I do not:

If it's true we only save $1.5 million out of $6 million or whatever it is, this seems like a foolish cut. He's a talented player who was getting better at a new position. We are clearly better with him than without him. The only issue is another possible injury, but for $1.5 million, it seems like an easy risk/reward decision to keep him. Hell, if he plays 12 games and then goes on IR, it'll be worth the $1.5 million, won't it?

Does cutting him now and eating that money instead of waiting a year make some kind of difference for the 2014 cap? That's the only thing I can think of.

My understanding is he's going to get paid no matter when he's cut. If we cut him before June 1st it will count against this years salary cap and after it counts against the 2014 cap. Cutting him makes zero fiscal sense for the Steelers.
