I think the intangibles are in place, without the injuries they would have been better. The D still needs some work, but that it not the huge issue on this team, an OC and line coach is the start.

you watched AZ and NE destroy that D? Colts obliterated it. When healthy, I will give them this - they were much better.

Buff open with a 21 - 0 lead in the playoffs.

    yes.

move on. For the reasons I suggested - let MT HC and the the DC, DC.

We were best that way, when the DC did his own job - when Lebeau was here.

Way too many 3rd and long completions, poor communication, and blown coverages. Whether it is coordinator, position coaches, or talent (physical and mental), some changes are needed.

Its always the players or injuries. Never about the scheme. Or the coaches. Tomlin is calling the shots on defense so theirs that right?!

    Austin was just well Austin.

Grady Brown? The way that secondary performed? Id rather have:

Bring someone in from the outside with some fresh ideas. Dated scheme. But its Tomlins baby so it will be same as it ever was.

At least it seems the offense will be more balanced with a new Offensive Coordinator. And some new faces hopefully bringing it into 2024. A style of scoring more points. What a concept!

The secondary needs more talent, they have only one dependable CB in Porter Jr, they were pretty good in creating turnovers though.

That 1 and something double digits record is a data point that looks shaky.
But our Defense could be better as a whole. I'm not sure if changing coordinators is the answer, though I would say you do need to change it up every now and then.
Offenses are smart, they study trends.

When looking at the totality of D stats they were above average, but not great. Yes, they were good in the red zone and in limiting points, but they were middle of the pack in things like yds allowed (12th), and were below average in yds/play (23rd) and 3rd down conversion rate (21st). Now I get that points is the most important stat, but those others are important too because they determine things like field position and probably also help explain things like the Colts jamming it down our throats in the second half. The defense was just on the field a lot due to a combination of an inept offense and their own inability to get off the field.

All of that is fine. Under most circumstances I'll take an above average D. It's tough to be very good at everything. The problem though is they spent more on the defensive side of the ball as a % of the cap than any other team in the league. If you're spending more of your allowtted budget on that side of the ball than every other team, you need to be better than above average. Not saying it's Austin's fault either. Just saying overall, we didn't get the kind of performance needed given the amount invested.

100% in agreement. Our defense fell far below the leaders in our conference eveb with the DPOY.

I know people like to say next man up but be honest, if the next man up was as good as the man that went down then he would be on the field already.
