With us unfortunately out of the playoffs, curious everyone’s view on the 2024 draft. With Tomlin’s recent presser, he gave us a lot of hints into 2024 (QB1 on the roster, new outside OC, etc). From this past season, we absolutely killed the 2023 draft - we have a few potential pro-bowlers in the group (our top 3 picks). Hopefully khan and crew can knock it out of the park again in 2024. Below is my latest mock - curious to everyone’s thoughts. Here’s the quick rationale for each pick (based on where they were available when on the clock):

20 - we need to invest premium capital in the DL, and Newton would be an amazing pick. With his explosiveness, he’s being highly undervalued IMHO.

51 - Dream center to build around, JPJ is everything the Steelers look for and some. Mean, mauling, and athletic - our center for the next decade (and best center in the draft IMHO).

84 - not sure how Wilson is even available, first round talent (and huge and fast!). We need to hedge Dionte here if they don’t extend - legit #2 with #1 potential.

115 - Jacobs is a do it all Linebacker, has all the traits and athleticism needed to be a solid starter in the 3-4.

116 - too good a RB to pass up! Hedge against Najee 5th year, and has higher round “talent” (devalued position, but can be an amazing 3rd).

179 - Solid Safety prospect with potential to grow into role and provide great depth (hoping Peterson moves to safety).

212 - backup QB who played in weaker conference but lit up the league. He’s not your typical small school player, he has arm talent, the smarts, and can a real sleep.

Special Note: I’m assuming we go free agent route for CB (huge need, and I’m praying for Jaylon Johnson, who can be had with some cap casualties and restructures). Our DB’s would be scary good!

You should check the Bill Nunn draft forum, that's where most of the draft talk is posted.

A Punter but it turns out on a ball with 8 billion you can't find 32 of them who can kick a ball.

I am assuming the OP believes that the Right Tackle question can be answered in FA as the post does point out Cornerback being addressed. I personally dont forsee Jaylon Johnson being available nor being a Steeler as he wants to be the highest paid CB. If that is to be the case, I wouldn't mind this draft given how Larry O was performed and Cameron Heyward possibly becoming a Cap Casualty.

That all said, I would rather tackle a Strong Safety a lot earlier in the class than later.

you don’t have to draft a punter, most teams don’t. Bring in a guy or two to challenge Harvin, but you don’t need to waste a draft pick, yet again, on a punter

No way Powers-Johnson will be available in the 3rd round, late 1st or early 2nd at worst. If by some chance he's still on the board in the 2nd round, I'd be handing over that piece of paper to them with his name on it as fast as humanly possible. They can't afford to make the same mistake they did with Humphrey

He has them taking him in the second. There's a long way to go yet, but a lot of multiple round mocks I've seen thus far have him available when the Steelers pick at 51.

My mistake, but I doubt if he'll even be around at #51. They'll probably have to trade up for him, but definitely worth it. The guy is a human steamroller, lol

I agree except the part of challenging Harvin. This has been tried and failed, sometimes you just move on, and this is one of those times.

100% agreed - the way the mock draft fell, there were no suitable options at a value. Best value was the Pitt tackle (Matt Concalves) in the 4th. Wanted Mins in the first, or a few in the second, but opted for the Center and DL (better value, and just as much a need). The Steelers put a premium on the middle of the Oline (they use tackles to a different degree). I’m also high on Dylan Cook and feel he may be a RT option (high upside).

On 31 other teams Harvin would have been gone after 2 years at most, The Steelers are bringing him back for a 4th go round...

And people wonder why we are so lost.

He has already said on his podcast he won't be taking a pay cut. Can't keep him around eating up 22,406 mill. They might extend him to lower the cap hit or maybe trade him? Releasing him will cost 6,406 mill dead cap hit. I do feel they will do the extension though and spread the remaining can't see them releasing him.

I like the center. I don't think he's be around that late though. Don't want to miss on another Humphries imo.

The game is won at the LOS. Get this Oline figured out
