Dionate Johnson says he hopes Mason Rudolph is the Steelers starting QB next season

I told my high school football coach I wanted to try out at DE as a sophomore

I dont care what you bandwagon Rudolph fans say, he wont be on the team next season.
Most of you dudes on this site are bandwagon Steeler fans anyway, that have never stepped a foot in Pittsburgh.

I don't give a damn what Johnson says... his dumbarse dropped an easy TD catch from Kenny, in Cincinnati... in the very first game following Matt Canada's firing. A game where Kenny led the Steelers to over 400 yards of offense (for the FIRST TIME since the day Matt Canada was hired) while passing for 24 of 33 for 278 yards. Had dumbarse caught the ball, Kenny would have finished with 25 of 33 for over 300 yards and 1 TD. So I don't want to hear a damn word from this punk.

 

Speak of dumbarses like Dionate Johnson planting the seeds for division in the locker by openly picking sides.... the same people that wanted to trade Mason Rudolph for a small bag of Doritos chips are now trashing Kenny Pickett and calling Mason the Messiah! Let's get some facts on the table. Kenny outplayed Mason and Mitch the past two pre-seasons. Both Kenny, Mason, Mitch, etc. struggled under Matt Canada. In the very first game, after Canada's release and on the road, Kenny put up THESE NUMBERS: 24 of 33 278 yards... leading the Steelers to over 400 yards of offense since Matt Canada was hired! He was one dropped Diontae Johnson TD from passing for over 300 years and going 25 of 33 with a TD! Kenny has proven to be clutch in the 4th quarter, even under Canada's disastrous tenure, that Mason showed no signs of at the same age. In college, it took a few years to Kenny to make some progress... but when he took that next step... he was exceptional. The point is, Kenny should be the starter next year. Tomlin's decision to ride with Mason Rudolph instead of letting Kenny build on what he started to show post-Canada... was a dumb decision. And, it was the kind of decision you expect from someone that took forever to fire Matt Canada, someone that put Mason Rudolph behind Mitch on the depth chart, someone that watched Mitch lose two straight games against teams with miserable records at a critical part of the season, and someone that should have known Mason was better than what everyone thought and NOT showcased him with him heading into free agency.

 

Tomlin did say he would have to earn it

 

And somehow one game makes for 20 games of crap

I watch "Unsportsmanlike" on ESPN in the morning before work while I'm having my cup of joe. For the most part, I like the banter of the three on the show. No yellowing, arguing, screaming. But they had a call from a Pittsburgh fan asking, and I'm paraphrasing why the three of them are rarely, if ever critical of Tomlin. Chris Canty went off, basically saying what's to complain about? The Steelers have never had a losing season while he's been there. He won a Super Bowl. He hasn't had a quality starting QB for 5 years. He made the playoffs with Mason freakin' Rudolph as his QB. He's one of the best coaches in the league. He'd have a job tomorrow if he was let go and on and on. All of the comments we've read from posters on here that are fully behind Mike Tomlin.

But the undisciplined stupidity his players too often display is concerning. Yes, we know they are all adults and Tomlin shouldn't have to be responsible for their comments to the media, etc. But why is it Broderick Jones has shown more of an aptitude of how a professional athlete is expected to conduct himself than a veteran like Johnson? Why was Chuks called on the carpet while both of our star WR'ers continue to display childish and immature behavior while receiving no apparent discipline other than perhaps a one on one discussion with Tomlin? Why does the national media only see what they want to see when it comes to the Steelers head coach but most of those analysts and reporters had Mike McCarthy fired at halftime of the Cowboys playoff game with the Packers? The national media refuses to peel back the layers of the onion on Tomlin and I'm completely void of an explanation.

That said, I'm optimistic that maybe Tomlin is open to expanding his horizons as it were in that he is looking for an OC with experience outside the organization. I liked his season ending presser. It gives me hope for next year.

 

It is amazing how the sports media treats Mike McCarthy as opposed to Mike Tomlin.

 

As someone who manages people and their work for a living, you manage people to what works for each individual. Everyone is different and different things motivate different people. To the same tune, some people are mentally tougher and some are more fragile to criticism. Sure, there is an element that Tomlin probably called Chuks out because it gave him a reason to put Broderick Jones in the lineup. Simple as that. But not everyone responds to the same type of coaching/management. You learn who you can ride and who you have to ease into conversations with. I don't necessarily think that its an awful thing that Tomlin coaches different people differently. Everyone needs to be treated FAIRLY, not THE SAME.

And look, there are merits to not having a losing season. There are merits to being able to hold things together when they are seemingly falling apart. But there are also merits to his criticisms. How can we have our 3rd stringer massively outplay our starter and back up? How does our HC not know that this guy is pretty good? Like, yeah it shows grit on Tomlin's part to win with a 3rd stringer, but we also won 3 out of 4 in that span because those were the best stretch of 4 games we've gotten from our QB in 2 full years. Not shocking we played well in those games. How does our coach "not trust" Peezy Jr. on the field full time for nearly half a season, only to stick him on the oppositions best WR for the end of the year? It was apparent to everyone that Joey was our best cover guy in camp. Not close. Why were we unwilling to give him a shot until we absolutely had to? Tomlin is well liked, so he gets the benefit of the doubt from the media. There are things he is really good at, but there are things he is really bad at. They just focus on all the good and pretend like the rest doesn't matter. I like a number of things Tomlin does. I hate a bunch of things too. But the lack of objectivity in the media is a direct response to Tomlin being well liked and well respected across the league. Players love him as a person, and a lot of the national media is made up of former players. They'll overlook his flaws due to their respect for him as a man.

 

Yeah... so tell me... how many "great games" has Mason in his entire career (so far) with Matt Canada as the OC...? ... cricket... cricket... cricket.... Damn.. Mason couldn't even stay in front of Duck who lasted less than a year and a half in the league.

I'm sure Kenny Pickett thinks it would have been wonderful if the wide receivers actually played hard and ran their routes properly for him too. Both DJ and Pickens weren't even trying or playing hard far too often. Pat Freiermuth missed much of the season and was playing injured for most of the games Pickett started. That's a lot for a young QB to deal with and overcome.

DJ is a veteran but acts like he's a snot-faced rookie. Just shut up and catch the ball from whatever quarterback is throwing the ball. Doesn't matter if it's Rudolph, Pickett, Fields, Russell Wilson, Cousins, etc...

I wish this idiot would grow up and learn to keep his mouth shut. I wonder how he would feel if Pickett called him out every time he didn't hustle, block, finish a route, or F-up a play. Never mind, I do know....He'd be whining and crying while sulking on the sideline and not playing hard. Not hard to figure this dim bulb out. He has been a walking mistake the last few years and may have just publicly insulted the guy that's going to be throwing him the ball.

No, pretty much everyone on this message board is a real Pittsburgh Steelers fan. We disagree on issues, but that doesn't mean some opinions are any more important than others.

As you are demonstrating, Pittsburgh is good with you not speaking for them on who is or isn't a "real Steeler" fan.

I like Kenny Pickett and still think he has a chance to be a good quarterback, but that doesn't mean that anyone that doesn't agree with me isn't a fan. That doesn't even make any sense.

 

Sensing the anger here. Did George just come out for the Rudolph too?
