My God... Russell Wilson contract is nuts. The GM in Denver is hopefully long fired after that deal.
$85mil in Dead Cap if cut.
I am glad Omar ruled this option out.

I'm fine with that also. If Kenny cannot beat out Mason in a QB comp with a presumably better OC, then Kenny doesn't deserve to be here either. If anything I'm more pissed about wasting that pick on Kenny when there were far better players in positions of need on the board. Therefore, I want to give Kenny every opportunity possible to succeed/fail. Otherwise I'll be doing other things with my life on Sunday mornings.

I feel we still need a definitive answer on Kenny.

Kenny had to put up with an incompetent OC, and an OL that was figuring things out for most of the season.

Rudolph benefited from Faulkner slowly tinkering things each week to make the offense run better. And the line was playing much better, although maybe Rudolph's deep ball helped the line by backing defenses off? ... hard to say.

I am still concerned Kenny ain't the guy, but I really don't want to go with an overpriced Veteran that isn't any good. Rudolph has his moments, but he is a statue out there, reminds me of Flacco. It would be hard to win a SB like that.

There is a small chance, but there is a hope Kenny shakes it off and becomes our long term starter.

It is going to take a top 5 QB to win a SB, either:
    1. Kenny becomes that guy
    2. We sign Russel Wilson and he resurrects his career
    3. We get lucky and Eagles blow it up, and we make a play for Hurts
    4. We suck bad enough to get an early draft pick
    5. We get lucky and draft the next Brock Purdy late in the draft

    #2 LOL no thanks

#3 I wanted to Draft Hurts when he entered the draft

#4 Probably a 50/50 chance of that happening

Johnathan Heitritter of Steelers Depot recently had a mock draft about drafting one; article here. Thing is, while I wouldn't hate this draft, I just don't forsee a scenario in which one of the Top Three QBs fall to 5. By that point, there would be a bidding war of biblical proportions; some of whom would exceed the proposed trade that the Steelers could presumably offer.

The more I think about it, we should just go after a known commodity in FA: Tannehill, Cousins, Wilson

    Make Kenny the #2.

I’m tired of the unknowns with these young qb’s. If Steelers get their defense fixed, Steelers can win games with one of those 3 guys.

Man, what do you think we could get if we try to trade Kenny?

A 5th round pick? Kenny is not worth anything better than a 5th rounder...or late 4th. he's had 2 seasons to prepare and play in the NFL. Teams value the first 3-4 rounds. You can sign a cheap veteran QB that would be equal or better than Kenny. Probably draft a better QB in rounds 3 or 4 that definitely has more upside.

I was wondering 'How can Wilson be in this conversation?'
I would not trade for Wilson. I don't want that contract under any circumstances.
For Denver, unless someone does go nuts and makes that trade, their best bet is to cut him Post 6/1.
At that point, how expensive would it be to entertain signing this guy? He's not worth 'Elite' pay anymore.
    He's 35.
The other way out for Denver is wait till 2026... I can't see that.

Cousins, I think will be expensive too. They project around $39mil/yr... I've kind of changed my mind on Kirk. He could fit and he doesn't favor any receiver, he throws to the open guy. Also the guy is detailed like you can't imagine.

I dunno. It is tough to say. Pittsburgh doesn't usually do this kind of deal.

I don't think we need a top 5 QB, but we definitely need someone that can play like one for the playoffs. Dudes like Eli Manning and Joe Flacco were never top 5 QB's but each have rings. They rode stellar defensive efforts tied to VERY strong postseason's by them to get it done. We can do the same with a Kirk Cousins level player. If we think Rudolph can become Flacco, we rush to week 1 with Rudolph at QB. That would be a GREAT outcome for this organization.

Kenny had to put up with an incompetent OC, but the OC had to put up with an incompetent QB just as well. Both hindered each other's success.

I don't think Rudolph benefitted much from Faulker. I think the offense very much benefitted from Mason being able to do the baseline NFL caliber things that Kenny couldn't do. Mason's ability to make teams pay for loading the box softened the constant stacking of the box and opened up the run game. Not hard to see why we ran it with so much more success to end the year than we did for most of the rest of the season. Teams loaded the box and Kenny couldn't make them pay, so we constantly faced that loaded box week in and week out. Part of it was also Tomlin's refusal to play Jones (I get that Jones still has a lot of work to do) didn't help either. He instantly helped the run with his athleticism and ability once injected into the lineup. We also had more success the more Warren touched the ball.

    We either:
    1. Get lucky and Kenny magically becomes a competent QB (not likely to happen)
    2. Roll with Mason and he develops into a strong game manager that becomes a Cousins/Flacco type (not super likely, but more likely than option 1)
    3. Get lucky and have a shot at Hurts like you mentioned, or take a shot on a guy like Fields/Mayfield and have it work out. (Hurts less likely than the other 2, but both Fields and Mayfield offer an upside that might make it work for us)
    4. We suck bad enough to get an early pick and get lucky to draft the right QB (Our team is too good/talented currently to suck bad enough to have this happen)
    5. We get lucky to draft the next Tom Brady or Brock Purdy later in the draft (very much not likely)

    Like I said

This wouldn’t be the first time you were wrong but it certainly was your next time

Kenny is QB1 Mason if he is here will have to compete

    As I said

No, you are wrong. Competition is over. Kenny Pickett is one of the worst QBs in the league, and there is no way up from that.
Not only you, but Tomlin as well is wrong. There is no OC who can fix that.

    Read the following slowly

Tomlin shared with reporters that Pickett will return as the team’s QB1 next season. But the head coach suggested that Pickett will have to earn the right to keep his job.

I know I am all over the place on this issue, but Kenny has had 1 game without Matt Canada and put up over 400 yards in offense that 1 game.

Mason should not sign with the Steelers until he sits down and talks with the new OC. Don't believe anything coming out of Tomlin's mouth about an open competition, or you will lose out again to Mitch Trubisky!

Kenny's game without Canada was a bad game, he had a bad game, before that he was garbage, even lower than bad. The best Kenny can do under a new OC is be bad instead of being garbage.

I’m not a MT fan. But there are two sides to every situation. Maybe Kenny has a learning issue. Just because he graduated from college doesn’t mean he’s the brightest apply in the orchard. He maybe getting training or advice from different sources and that has him totally confused. He has 2 years as QB with hardly any evidence of improvement. Mason comes of the bench after sitting for 2 years and blows everything up.
