So, they hope(best case scenario) to go into next season with KP and MR?

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Kiss 2024 goodbye guys. Which means, unless some crazy CJ Stroud happens in 2025, you can kiss that season goodbye as well.

Buckle up kids, it's gonna be a long ride.

    I could cry.

What did people think was going to happen? The veteran QBs available aren't appealing. Rudolph looked fine down the stretch. Will he continue to look fine? Who knows - but he's not a worse option than a geriatric Kirk Cousins, or Baker Mayfield (who's likely not even available). Fields might be an option, but to say he's been inconsistent would be an understatement.

Sorry, but there is no magic QB answer. The Steelers don't have a high pick and have a lot of other needs anyway. If the Steelers want to take a flier on a late-round QB, that's fine, but there aren't a lot of other good options at the moment.

Maybe Tomlin should have been more transparent and laid out the exact plans for all to see and hear.

You could cry, but there are more important things in life.

The season ended 3 days ago. Of course he is going to say that now as these are the guys they have. Once the offseason begins after the Super Bowl it could all change.

I’m going to hold out hope that Kenny can still be the guy with a new OC. I don’t think it’s going to be a real QB competition because of how Tomlin stressed a QB friendly OC. That’s obviously geared toward Kennys benefit. Which makes me wonder of they will be looking at Mark Whipple for OC or Pep Hamilton. They looked at Hamilton last time, wouldnt be surprised if its him.

Yeah it's difficult right now. I don't have a lot of hope for the next few years. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't seeing us being a real contender until Tomlin is gone. We're too inconsistent under him. We rely on turnovers and splash plays rather than consistent, sound football. That's fine, but when the splash plays aren't there and the turnovers don't come, we can't win.

    Exactly

They gave Rudolph an extension a couple of years ago and Colbert was asked if he was the starter

Colbert said if the season started today he would be the starter

He was the only quarterback under contract

Hope Kenny can learn and grow because it sounds like he's the man.

Mason should probably leave for an opportunity to start.

The major takeaways for me are two factors; changes overall being the first and the new Offensive Coordinator search being second. For the changes, while this was all but confirmed on the Offensive Side of the ball, clear and present for me is the Defensive Side; specifically Teryl Austin. What becomes of him?! Hopefully he is gone as well for he has run his course.

Regarding the search, I had held out hope Tomlin wouldn't be a part of such a task. Given how he still is the Head Coach, that was wishful thinking on my behalf as a whole. My concern is that, while this new hire will be out of the organization, I still fear that this new OC will still be limited by Tomlin; further limiting Kenny Pickett... again....

Sorry but this is a no brainer lol! KP is the guy! He is talented and can be great! Get him some O Line that can get a consistent running game (which is a symbiotic relationship with the passing game) and obviously improve in pass pro. Kenny can make every throw. He needs time(pass pro)! He needs guys to catch the football (DJ)! He needs a playcaller that uses the team's strengths! And he needs the defense to play up to Steeler expectations. KP was 7-4, with all the crap that was happening on this team in the first 11 games. Give me a break!!

The best QBs in the league have a majority of the aforementioned pieces mentioned above! If they didn't, they would NOT be "top guys". Facts!

    Go Steelers

What if they take an even better T in this draft? There is zero reason to answer this question right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers look at all options at the QB position, including trying to get Fields or another

For the moment, of course Tomlin can't say that Pickett is not number 1 since nothing is guaranteed and Rudolph is not under contract but the fact that he says that Pickett will have competition means that he is not closing the doors on anything....

Did he say QB1? I just watched the presser. I didn't hear that. He said he still believes in Kenny, but he will have competition ... that doesn't sound like QB1 to me.

Sounds like he is going to have to fight for it.

What a dumb, inflammatory question from the press. And Mark Kaboly - who should know better - just plays right into it.

Why would Tomlin commit to Mason as QB1 when Mason may not even be on the team after free agency? Aside from Kenny, the only other QB currently on the team who still technically has a contract is Mitch and we all know there's a 0% chance that Tomlin would say that Mitch is QB1 for 2024 - I mean, the dude probably won't even be on the team in a few weeks.

So who does that leave him with? Well, probably the only QB on the team who currently has an active multi-year contract with the team, aka Kenny.

That doesn't mean Mason couldn't become QB1 - the fact that Tomlin points to there being a competition this year without even knowing what QBs they'll have suggests that the Steelers organization's faith in Kenny is pretty low - but if it's going to be Mason, then they're gonna have to actually re-sign him first.

So, again - since all of this just seems very obvious, no-brainer stuff - one wonders why the press would even ask such an inane question. To name anyone other than Kenny as QB1 right now would've been absolutely bonkers - I mean, who the hell else was Tomlin going to nominate? At present, Kenny is *literally* his only choice. I guess the media likes their clicks and engagement a lot, though, so... I suppose these types of shallow, obvious, simpleton questions are to be expected these days.

Thing is, how do you really prove it anymore with the shortened amount of preseason games?
