With the #20 pick in the NFL draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select 25 year old QB Bo Nix from Oregon.

Well, OT, C, DL and CB are critical needs and that's if they still believe in Kenny. Lot of work to do but the '24 roster should be solid. It won't matter though if the coaching staff still sucks.

Khan and Weidl have their hands full.

What do you do with a declining Heyward who will cost a boatload against the cap? Need to upgrade the D Line. Leal needs to be shown the door. Wasted pick.

Mason Cole. The center position needs to be addressed in the draft but I believe that Cole will be here in 2024 the last year of his contract.

Dan Moore. Not good enough. Would be a nice back up whose contact is up after 2024. Move Jones to left where he belongs and draft a right tackle.

Receiver. Another position of need. Johnson is signed through the 2024 season at 15,833 mill.

Corner. Without saying. Peterson, Witherspoon should have the door held for them. There is no guarantee Trice will come back healthy.

On a side note I can only hope besides Tomlin leaving that Weidl doesn't bolt for a GM job.

The four standout needs for me are OT, DT, C and CB. I’m deliberately not saying ILB because drafting that position early is too risky IMO

They should be able to get a starting Center in the second round. Ideally #20 is an OT, DT or CB depending on how the board falls to them.

They managed the draft really well last year so let’s hope they can do the same again because this team has a lot of needs.

Id add QB but drafting another QB later in the first round is probably pointless. They’ll have to work with KP and whoever they bring in assuming Mitch is cut and Mason signs elsewhere

I hate to say this, but I would ignore the offensive line woes this year and focus on the defense.

This defense lacks speed. ILB is a huge need IMO. The Steelers should go corner twice in this draft. A solid saftey to play alongside Minkah would be nice. Let's not forget that Heyward could very well retire. Even if he doesn't, depth/upgrades are needed.

    Lol ok sure

FYI, Cowher didn’t pick his players either, if he did they never would have drafted Ben.

Is there going to be a deep pool of centers this year? I feel like addressing that position almost has to be a top priority, though some glaring problems on defense will, of course, also need to be addressed. Sadly, it's hard to find generational talents when we're always drafting at 20+.

We could try to hit OL via FA. Maybe just a center in the draft would suffice.

ILB and CB are huge. Even a mid tier FA CB and drafting a slot guy would be something... ILB probably has to come from the first two rounds if we want a real difference maker. Holcomb and Roberts are solid players, but having a Shazier would make us so difficult to go against.

For S, I would consider resigning Rowe to play next to Minkah and pushing that position down a year or two. Thompson showed enough to potentially be an option as third safety. We could always draft a developmental guy here, but a mid tier FA, re-sign Rowe and Thompson could be a decent room.

DL, I'd look this way if Heyward retires. That would open a lot of money for the FA market, but maybe another young top tier prospect would help. Benton looks like he will be a good player, but we need another.

Yes, I just see the similarities between Nix and Pickett. Both were in college forever and were in their mid twenties on draft day. Also we have the #20 pick, the same draft number we took KP with. I do think though that Nix has a better upside than KP.

Honestly, stylistically McCarthy looks more like Pickett than Nix... but I understand the comparison. It's not that Pickett lacks the tools to be a good QB though... its all about whether or not the guy we draft can develop his "brain skill" and be able to process the NFL game at a high level. This is where Pickett falls short, and where Nix or McCarthy could end up excelling past Pickett and become a good QB despite having similar game.

If we don't get or have a good QB we best get a new Punter.

Pointless is probably the wrong word. Of course if you get an Aaron Rodger’s 2005 type slide and you feel really good about a player that falls you should make the pick.

There are exceptions but your chances of getting a franchise QB at #20 are low though, and they have too many holes in the roster to trade up IMO.

McCarthy for me is QB #2 in this draft. That is because he won the NCG. He had a really good year. The concern with him is the low volume, and we cannot be certain that he has mastered that system under a high volume too, because he did not have high volume. In other words, he is not used to carrying the team with his passing from the QB spot. In that sense, Kenny was a better prospect. McCarthy needs volume and needs to go throgh ups and downs on that. He should be a starter day 1.

Bo Nix comes from wacky offense where he put up weird and gaudy stats, those cannot be relied on to determine that he is a great QB. But, to me based on performance in his last season in college he is a top 5 QB. Best case scenario for Nix is to sit behind a vet to get adjusted from that wacky offense to NFL style. Although, he could start too from the get-go. Because of his size I would rank him #5 on my list of QBs.

Jayden Daniels would be #1 because performance and athleticism. Starter day #1. #3 for me is Williams USC, because he is 6-1. #4 is Penix who also comes from a wacky offense and will need time to adjust. All those QBs to me are round #1, even the ones who I think should sit, because teams need new windows and need to draft a QB.

I do not like Drake Maye, to me he is like Will Levis, I would not draft him, a QB like that definitely needs time to learn and perfect the game and is very unlikely to lead you to a SB on a rookie deal. But, for old-timers who like big big armed QBs he will be ranked, and they will want him. Not me.

Mason was also excellent coming out of college, like Goff, and could've led us to SB on rookie deal if we stuck with it, but we did not. He was that type of QB. But the film watchers, the arm watchers, the guys who want to tell the QB how to release the ball, where to step, the footwork watchers always have some complaint about what they see and lose track of the larger perspective, which is to get to the SB on rookie deal. You need a good QB, not a project.
