Stuff cost money, sure. Supply and demand. If you don't demand it, it doesn't cost as much.

You're exactly what the NFL wants - sheep. They only do this if people are dumb enough to tell them it's okay. If this game gets garbage ratings, this doesn't happen again. Since you don't seem to care about money, perhaps go out doors and throw a few hundred to your neighbors I'm sure they'll appreciate it - maybe they won't have their dogs crap on your lawn or they won't have their garbage blow into your yard because you paid them to clean it up instead of being careless.

I'll bet a lot more people are watching but aren't paying.

If someone lives close enough to Canada, they're watching too - for free.

Here's a thought - if it's all about money. Why wouldn't the NFL direct refs to call it so the teams that make them more money wind up it the conference championship games and Super Bowl? Think about that before complaining about ref calls.

I watched the game on the NFL app late so I would not have to do pay for view on one game. I am going to assume that what I saw on the replay was the same as live.

It was annoying that peacock was written in the top right of the entire game. It was also annoying that they flashed peacock on the screen during most scene changes during the game.

I really hope that fan anger can dissuade the NFL from trying to force consumers to sign up for every single streaming service in existence next year.

100% agre, do away with their antitrust exemption. The minute they jumped in bed with Las Vegas and the gambling industry, they lost all credibility with me.

Where the outrage is for some is when you consider that the NFL is a singular product only they can distribute. Different grocers price their hot dogs and fillets at a retail of their choosing after first purchasing it from one of a number of available beef suppliers, who purchase their stock from farmers, etc. The price each charges along the chain is up to them, but is mostly determined by their operating costs and the current market rate of their competitors. This is the essence of free market capitalism.

Professional football, however, is solely owned and distributed by the NFL. They have no competition; rather, major media outlets compete to purchase the rights to distribute their product. Some of those companies, though, have divisions of their own. So if a company (NBC) pays the NFL $100+M for sole distribution rights for a particular game, they can opt to air in exclusively on streaming service they own and charge customers who have already paid for their network channel via cable/streaming provider (a cut of which goes back to NBC) extra to view it there.

So to me it's not about getting something for free; it's about corporate entities having the ability to move the same product through multiple channels and charging for each. People that purchase Sunday Ticket pay for every game on Sunday, even if they are only interested in their own team. They don't know how many of their team's games might be aired in their area (aside from national telecasts), and aren't refunded anything when they are. People pay for basic cable/streaming packages that include channels like NBC (who in turn gets a cut of that revenue), but NBC can decide to create a streaming service and move certain shows/sports of theirs exclusively there and gain extra revenue, with customers having no alternative avenue.

A lot of this is due to the antitrust exemption Congress granted the NFL that disallows teams from negotiating broadcast rights in favor of the NFL negotiating all terms as a single entity. The league has pretty clearly used it in ways they were not supposed to: to increase profits and the expense of their consumers who have no alternatives.

Here's a link to a NY congressman who sent a letter to to both the league and NBC over the Peacock incident this weekend.
