Yeah, it's pretty widespread this year. Seems like everyone we know has it. We had the stomach flu go through the house like wild fire a couple years ago. Not a fun time.

I prefer to fight the flu this way:

You have to be a Howard Stern fan to appreciate it...

I've had one flu shot in the last 30 years and (knock on wood) have only had the flu once in that same time.

I never used to get it, but with kids in the house I do it for them. Plus my wifes work requires her to be around sick people, so we all get it done.

I've never gotten a shot either, last time I had the flu was 28 years ago. I don't even get colds anymore, before last year, I went 7 years without even getting a single cold and haven't gotten another one since, guess I have a pretty good immune system :aikido: I also never touch my face and wash my hands alot which goes a long way to avoid getting sick.

But with all the kids falling victim to this, probably a good idea to get them a shot.

And thats no penalty! Fear The Beard!:darkness:

I've actually not been on the last couple of days because I DO have it!!! Influenza Type A. Feel like crap and have to stay out of work for 5 days and can't be around my wife and little boy or go to church or nothing. It's pretty lame but at least I have many games to play during this time. I didn't get a shot because I was sick when my wife and little boy got one. He has strep throat though and my wife has an ear infection. Things are not looking good at the BFT household!

True story. My Great Grandfather died from the Spanish Influenza pandemic when my grandfather was still young. The flu is nothing to sneeze at... (ok, pun intended)

If you work with, or care for children, it's a good idea to get the vaccine. I personally have not had one since I left the medical field, but I used to have to get one every year.

Wash your hands, almost compulsively. Be conscious of touching your face (especially your eyes, nose and mouth). The average person touches their face something like 200 times a day without even realizing it. If you touched the same surface as a contagious person did, then rub your eye, you've just been exposed.

Get enough sleep! Eat well (I said "well," not "a lot." And good, nutritious food, not junk). Stay hydrated. Exercise. All will keep your immune system working at peak performance.

    Avoid crowds if possible.

And then cross your fingers. Just keep in mind that early flu symptoms have a lot in common with plain Jane colds. If you truly have the flu, you'll feel a lot worse than the sniffles and a low fever. It doesn't hurt to see a doctor if in doubt. If you are sick, avoid people if you can and try your best not to spread it. The problem with the flu is that you're contagious up to 72 hours before you even know you're sick.

My doctor says "Keep your hands away from the holes in your head". Good rule to live by during cold and flu season.

Yep! I thought I was just getting a cold and BAM I had the stupid flu! I have a horrible immune system anyway and I DEFINITELY don't get enough sleep. I mean if I sleep when will I have time for video games and a certain website that keeps me up late talking about a certain football team? You know, I think it's really the fault of people that make cool websites that causes people's immune systems to be sub-par.

Hehe, I knew it was high, but couldn't remember the exact number and went conservative. 2000? Does that include while we sleep?

Nope, I believe that is minus the 8 hours of sleep the average person gets. Although I get like a maximum of 6 hours, usually 5 by the time I drag my butt to bed. It's that evil that TTF does, he's to blame :threaten:

I read that the flu going around isnt in the shot so those that took it arent protected. I got the flu first of Dec. My wife got it a week later. She took the shot, I didnt.
