I thought Tomlin and Ben were bad

Shanahan leaving RG3 in the game, he's going to risk the future of that team for 1 game? Ben has been here for 8 years before he got thrown into the SF game with 1 leg, we already got 3 SB runs out of him. BUT TO RISK YOUR FUTURE ,Shanahan is a moron! I wanted the crybabies seattle gone.

He did what any coach would have done, he stuck with his starting QB. Tomlin has done this many times, both with Ben and Lefty.

Coaches very rarely yank their starting QB

Couldn't agree with you more. Shanahan lost that game for the Skins. When he had a good quality back-up like Cousins waiting in the wings he should have pulled RG III at the half or at least end of the 3rd Qtr. regardless if he wanted to come out of the game or not.

I don't know about "any coach." It might not be an easy call, especially if you think this is the year for you, but... if he's coming off a bad knee injury and your team doctor says that watching Griffin take the field makes him a "nervous wreck" and has him "holding his breath", you might reconsider. It's not necissarily in the same ballpark as Lefty's rib injury. And Ben is hurt so often that if we pulled him he'd never see the field. :lolol:

And as the OP said, this is his rookie season. They are a team on the rise, not falling. This was not their year anyway. After Griffin's concussion everyone talked about how basically the ONLY way this kid doesn't have a spectacular career with wins piled on top of wins is if he doesn't take care of his body and fizzles out by way of injury or general ass kicking. I don't expect Shanahan to say "Well, we probably weren't going to advance anyway, so let's just play the backup." But I do expect him to do what's best for his team. That's tough to do for coaches, who live in the present in order to maintain employment. Shoot, the Browns conspired to literally risk Colt McCoy's life in order to try to win a meaningless game. But given the state of Griffin's knee and the opinion of the team doctor, I can't imagine he'd get too much crap for it.

I can see a good coach pulling the starter.

In Shanahan's defense. The last thing you want to do in a playoff game is go to a back up QB. Look how well it worked for the Vikings.

The Redskins season ended pretty much just like the Steelers. Key game, injured QB unable to play to his fullest extent being left in, badly timed turnover as a result. The worse RGIII played, the more this whole team looked like it was giving up. Heck, Cousins got sacked over and over again once they finally did put him in. I think it shows how all the heart can go out of a team after a key motivating player goes down.

The most intriguing storyline to me here was the issue with the team doc. Shanahan said he cleared RGIII to play last week, as I understand, and the doc says he never even examined him. Can't say I'm surprised though. The HC and front office have been killing the Skins for years now. Also curious to see if Kyle goes somewhere else, as I think he had a big part to do with the success this year.

Yep. RG3 said he was good to go so you have to stick with him IMO.

    But RG3 couldn't move, that's his game.

Peter King wrote an article this morning about it and RG3 repetedly said to the coaching staff that he was fine and could make all the plays. Granted we now know this is hogwash, but you have to at least have some faith in your QB with this one.
That being said, I probably would have pulled him after that run/limp to the sideline on that QB scramble.

What ?? No way can you compare back-up Joe Webb of the Vikings to Kirk Cousins of the skins. Not even close. Cousins could probably start for NFL team. If he's my back-up and my starter is limping all over the field it's a no brainer. I put Cousins in the game.

Coaches can never win in these situations unless the team wins the game.

Guess I'm sadistic. If my team is in the playoffs I go with my Starting QB for as long as I can't get away with it.

May be a SB run and the only shot everyone on that team gets so you treat it that way. It's why they play the game.

Even if the biggest part of your starting QB's game is running the football and it's clear that he can barely walk let alone run ??? It's not like he's a prototypical pocket passer and they could just load up on the protection to get as much as they could out of him without trying to aggravate the injury more. I agree with you that you do treat the game like it may be your only shot and that's exactly why I'd have pulled him from the game when it was clear he was nothing more than a wounded duck out there and that was very obvious to everyone watching the game.
