Trubisky so that we can get the #1 overall pick in the 2025 draft without trading up.

Gotta see how Rudy handles the rats tomorrow before answering.

Take Trubs off that list :lolol:

I vote for Pickett purely on age, contract, etc. Gotta hope he can be the guy. Very unlikely Rudolph all of a sudden a week in and out starter (franchis qb). Wilson too old. Fields just doesn't do it for me.

All that being said...I hope for an open competition for whoever is on the roster. Pickett is owed nothing IMO.

Of the options listed, it is hard to really come to a real conclusion. The first round QB is ambiguous because we don't know which guy that is. Jayden Daniels would be someone I wouldn't expect to be ready as a rookie, but someone like Penix to be much more pro ready. Rudolph probably gives our current offense the best shot at winning games, but it depends on what we do at OC for next season and the style we want to play moving forward. I'd rank them as such.

    1. Rudolph
    2. Fields (could be 1 if we chose to lean in on the run game and dual threat QB's)
    3. First round QB (assuming its a guy like Penix, but further down if its a guy like Daniels)
    4. Pickett
    5. Russell Wilson (not a good fit IMO. Would be a very short term upgrade, but not worth the hassle)
    6. Trubisky (he lost his back up job to Mason. Gonna be cut)

Rudolph's play has elevated this offense, but I don't believe him to be a long term answer. Quality QB play has proven this offense has had a shot to light up the scoreboard all year, we just have been held back by poor play from Pickett and Trubisky to this point. Fields COULD be a long term answer, but we would have to change how we do things offensively and it would be a pretty good sized risk if it backfired. Turning him into a Jalen Hurts type QB could be possible (as his play has elevated as his line and weapons have improved), but its something we would have to go "all in" on and draft/invest for moving forward. I don't see Pickett as a good option. We could hold out hope that he magically morphs into an acceptable NFL QB, but the reality is that he has been given a very long leash and he has done basically nothing with it. I don't expect our offense to improve much next season with Pickett at the helm. I spoke about the rookie being a wild card. Pass on Wilson. Trubisky is a hard pass too.

I think that Daniels or Penix might be gone before the Steelers pick. Especially if Penix has a big game against Michigan. So the choice could be Bo Nix but he will be 25 years old in a month. So with the choices listed I would pick Fields and hope that he has indeed turned the corner.

With respect to the originator of this thread it is ridiculous. How could anyone put Rudolf with any of the rest of those QB’s. This is only his 3rd game in 1.5-2 years. Give me a break. But in those 2 games he has played in this year he has shown prospects than any other QB in the Steelers roster.

I think the Steeler QB situation depends on if Mason is still on team. If he is it will be Pickett, Mason and a higher round draft pick. Should Mason get a better offer it will be Pickett a draft pick and no idea.

Rudolph, and for the next two years minimum.

You draft a QB, and you give him his window. It is as simple as that. No ifs or buts. The window is supposed to be rookie contract, 4 years, but evaluated after the second season. First season is always a throwaway. We did not give Mason his window and we have to do it.
If after two seasons which is the minimum the QB performs like sht like Pickett has and therefore you have reason to believe nothing will come of him, he will not lead you to SB because that is what the history of sht performances tells you, then you open a new window with a new QB.
We are not an organization that fks around with coaches and GMs and instability, we get the guy and we give him his due under our system. But that also means we do not bench the QB in his window after 3 bad games in favor of Duck Hodges. No.

Pickett will be only one left on roster. Mitch will be cut and mason will leave for Atlanta.
Wilson and Feilds are expensive in either money or draft picks

I am going to choose First round pick. One from the past Teddy Bridgewater. He is perfect steelers choice. A former first round pick who they can bring back from the dead. Can make some plays with his feet and comes cheap!

There is no Super Bowl possibility with anyone on this list, but I picked Wilson just based on he has long track record (he`s a known quantity) and probably best option for one year over the others.

Huh? I don’t understand why you pheel that way. Mason is phully prepared to be the starting quarterback next season. He’s played phantastic the last couple of weeks and I anticipate he’ll do the same tomorrow even though the phield may be a little sloppy. Nevertheless, should be a phun game to watch and phailure is not an option! :yeehaw:

I voted for Wilson because it is the only option that doesn't end up with a QB competition in training camp and preseason. Look at all the top teams that have a shot at going deep into the playoffs. Non of them started the year with a QB competition. A QB competiton not only slows the progress of the eventual starter, but inhibits the development of timing with all the skill players because reps are being split. There's not enough time in the off-season to begin with to get everyone on the same page with a new OC let alone trying to do that when you don't even know who the starting QB is going to be.

Does anyone have interest in Baker Mayfield if available? He seems like someone who could be a legitimate long-term option that would be less expensive than a traditional franchise QB, and could be a guy we build a really good team around.

So just giving a job got us here in the 1st place. They just gave the job to Trubisky the 1st year....how did that work out???

No. I've said this many many time, and I know nobody cares, but I had Mason higher than Baker coming out. Only thing I had graded higher on Baker than Mason was His foot work....everything else lower. Biggest difference in Mason , and Baker on college was the team. I still can't believe Baker was a number one overall draft pick. I think He's OK, but not a number one pick in any fashion.
