He’s the only starting quarterback in NFL history who is hated by his team’s last two quarterbacks drafted in the first round. I’ll get the NFL statisticians on this but I don’t think that’s ever happened before. ;):lolol:

In all seriousness, I think Ben’s comments yesterday were full of crap. He may have not liked the pick but it manifested itself as him not liking Mason. I believe firmly that his relationship with Ben hindered his development given that Ben basically ran the offense.

As for the Kenny situation, oh man. Could get ugly if what’s being reported is true. One thing's for sure, if Kenny is inactive Saturday it’s going to be an interesting off-season.

Yeah, Ben is stepping in some serious Doo-Doo on this one.

I am sure Ben treated Mason as fairly as Favre treated Rodgers.

I don't get why anyone expects a player who still has many years of playing left to empower/enable/help their own replacement?

If your boss told you to teach someone so you can be fired and lose money, would you say "sure thing, boss!"? What would your wife/husband say? What would your kids say?

I don't expect Ben or Pickett to like/help/enable Rudolph.

Ben did not hinder Mason's development. Rarely do QBs get drafted with a future HOF QB on the roster. It's not up to the older QB to teach, that's what the coaches get paid to do. Any issue with development should be blamed squarely on them. He's had Fichtner and Canada as his QB coaches/offensive coordinators, so there's your answer.

You're never going to get that unless the guy is just really special. Most of these guys would rather be drug off the field on a cart than to say they don't have it anymore. They may talk a big game about helping and maybe help woth film, technique, etc. but they are really trying to get them ready to replace themselves.

Look at Brady. You think he was really trying to groom those guys to take his spot? Isn't there that rumor that he was behind one of them getting traded away?

I see the point you are making, but have a different view. When assembling a team at work, I want the best around me. I have trained our team for their continual improvement, even if that means they could one day take my job. That’s just good leadership.

I recognize that sports brings a different context, but still think there is a leadership element there. Ben was a captain, so I do believe he had some responsibility to strengthen the team.

So much for the concept of team but the almighty dollar trumps team every time.

I've said it before, I'd be very happy making minimum NFL wage and sit on bench eating potato chips for 8-9 years. And you'd get to watch all those games up close;)

There have been some great QB's that have worked with passing the torch.
But as some have alluded to, it's competition.

There was definitely a riff between Ben and Mason. I can't solve that one.
I think the Steelers were right in keeping an eye towards the future.
At the same time, I completely understand Ben's rub.

I've never heard Kenny play into drama. Sounds a bit like lazy reporting.
It is completely understandable (and desirable) that he should want to play. I wouldn't expect less.
I agree with Tomlin in that he is sticking with the hot hand and correctly pushing the issue into the offseason.
If anything, it should motivate Kenny to dig in and dedicate more. The path should not be easy.

I have noticed a few articles out there that are basically click bait and kind of written out of thin air. I don't see the Pickett drama. I think Pickett has a good head on his shoulders and is not the petulant drama queen that some click bait articles are making him out to be. We are seeing Mason 2.0. He has been in the league longer and has earned this chance that he is getting. Kenny understands this. The drama is mostly manufactured.

brady didn't like the competition. that's why he insisted Belichick get rid of the backup QB every couple of years.

    That isn't entirely true.
He wasn't a mentor at all... he did huddle with the backups.
But his backups were snatched up, at times for the value that the picks brought to the team.
Bill sent Jimmy G to the 49s for a 2nd round pick in the 2018 draft.
The Patriots seemed to have a knack for trading players at the right time and getting good value.

Cassel was trading after having that record breaking season for a 2nd Round pick as well.
