I will agree with you that he has not gotten a fair shake.

I think you’re really reaching on the character issue thing. The logical reason is simply that teams didn’t value what they saw on tape from him as an NFL QB. Nice game from him Saturday, but as I’ve said elsewhere it was a combination of Pickens’ raw talent and the Bengals covering him 1:1 much of the game that turned a nice game by Mason into a great game. I don’t think we’ll see more of the same Sunday from Seattle’s defense from a scheme perspective.

That’s true, but do you think that every team in the NFL felt that Rudolph wasn’t good enough to even be a backup? His career stats compared favorably to quite a few of the backups’ stats around the league. I did a quick search of backup quarterbacks around the league and some of them were absolute jokes. Why did Rudolph just seem to fall off the face of the earth after Jussie Garret’s accusation? I may be thinking too conspiratorially and it’s certainly not a hill I’ll die on, but if Rudolph continues his strong play (and that’s a big if at this point) it will give more credence to the theory.

Ordinarily I wouldn’t give it a second thought. But if you’ll recall how high the temperature of the country was in 2019 when that occurred when it came to racially motivated issues it’s not so far fetched. Jussie Smollett accused two black guys wearing MAGA hats in downtown Chicago of beating him and using racial and homophobic slurs and the President and Vice President came quickly to his defense and never recanted. Jussie’s cousin, Myles, decided if it was good enough for cuz it’s good enough for me and essentially went with the same lie. Rudolph supported the MAGA guy in the last election. It’s really not all that far fetched in today’s world unfortunately.

Fine. Believe what you want to believe, but let’s not tread down this road here please. You really didn’t need to go further and start expanding the discussion with other examples. It usually doesn’t go well when politics and race start getting discussed on the board. The temperature gets hot here too, and it gets hot enough just sticking to football.

Not intending to go down a political road at all, just trying to set the context which can’t be ignored. You should know me well enough to know that I avoid political commentary on this site and haven’t gotten involved when posters bring it up from time to time. In this case, I felt it was relevant to my argument.

But having said that, I realize you mods have a difficult time keeping the discussions under control at times and I respect that. You all do a great job. My apologies.

Thanks. It usually starts on the fringe of political/race talk by someone who didn’t intend to kick off a political discussion.

He’s just not very good, Jack. While it would make for an incredible story if Mason went onto being a franchise QB for us the reality is he probably gets shut down in Seattle.

I imagine Seattle won’t give him those generous looks Cincy was so kind to provide. They’ll have help over top and make sure to get Pickens off his game which is fairly easy to do. Amazing hands but not very good route runner. They’ll jam him and get in his head, I guarantee Carrol is telling his guys to ramp up the trash talking. I suspect Muth and DJ will have bigger roles this game. If Mason is going to be successful he will need to duplicate his efficiency in the short yardage routes.

If he does that again and has another good game, I might just start sipping the kool aid.

Unfortunately, it looks like the other two quarterbacks on the roster aren’t either. I guess Rudolph’s play against Cincy reminded me of what good quarterdeck play and scoring points looked like and it got my hopes up. It’s literally been two and a half seasons since we’ve seen that which is an eternity in the NFL world. I’m enough of a realist to know that those hopes could come crashing down against Seattle, but a guy can hope.

Rudolph’s first nfl action was against Seattle when Ben got hurt. Ben was having a horrible game and Steelers were down by 10. Mason came, rallied the Steelers to go ahead, but Steelers leaky D couldn’t hold Seattle and they went ahead to close out the game. The following week Rudolph had a good game and beat Cincinnati. No reason to believe he can’t move the ball on Seattle again. When I first saw Rudolph when he replaced Ben, was that he had a quicker release than Ben and looked more efficient. Hopefully, that Mason shows up.

Unlike yourself, I actually know the person that cuts Mason's hair when he comes home for a visit.

    Wow....I mean Wow!!!!
I'm glad the Guy that is making the most money at the Qb position, and Had already fleece the Bears out of 30 million, or more ....decided to have people over.....it sure Helped Him play. LoL. Just imagine of He didn't play buddy buddy with those guys.....one young Qb maybe still alive, and maybe He would have even worse than 8td, and 10 ints....a 2-5 record, and other loses when he came in. ....but Hey ....Trubisky invited people to his house. LoL
Also I have many time seen Mason with the clipboard (pad) going over the plays with KFP....this year.

You have no way of knowing if He got any offers. .....why do You , and many say this stupid stuff. Many have also reported He had offers, but chose to stay here. Hell knowing what He saw on the practice field every day....probably made Him think His best chance at starting was here. LoL

Use common sense. Were those offers only for 3rd string? Keep in mind, IIRC, most teams don’t carry three QB’s, Steelers are among the few. I honestly don’t even know who else does. So follow that logic through, he didn’t even get 2nd string offers.

He expressed displeasure with the Steelers heading into free agency, took a shot at them, the only time I have ever heard Rudolph conduct himself in an unprofessional manner. He wanted out of here. He came back because it was that or Krogers.

True based on totality of his work, but he is better than Kenny and Mitch, and that is without being given the starting job and the offseason to work as the #1.

After watching Tribisky ( if I spelled it wrong it wont matter much longer) and KP has not been much better I think Rudolph gives us a better chance, at least he can throw the ball downfield and be somewhat accurate.

It was nice to see him play well and give us a glimpse of what this offense could be. I can never hope they lose but I don t see a playoff run in this team there are just too many holes and injuries. I think any success now just changes our draft position.

Totality of his work comes with a question mark. He was excellent prior to injury, and bad after injury. He was decent against jets. I discount game against Detroit, because it was in rain and he had one day to prepare. Even then, he drove the Steelers twice into winning position. Overrated Friermuth fumbled once and kicker missed the other time. And finally, he was very good against the Bengals last week. I haven’t seen potency in our offense that we saw last week in any of Pickett’s or Trubisky’s start. This week will be tricky for Mason, as he won’t be as loose as last week as there are expectations now. It’s good he is playing away as there won’t be hometown boo birds if he messes up. I like the guy and hope he does well.
