    Oh pittuie

The Steelers have given him a contract for 6 years for Jimminy Christmas

Charlie has pointed out that Mason is not a good contributor in QB meetings

When Mitch twice had QBs receivers etc down to his house to work out did Mason show up no

When Mason came of the field and sat with the person going over plays with iPad Mitch was there to help and learn

The week before when Mitch came of the field Mason was literally down the field hanging out with the kicker

If he wants anything more than that then he needs to earn it and so far he has not

After the Steelers signed Mitch and drafted Kenny, Mason had NO SHOT at winning the starting quarterback job in camp last year. It was pre-determined that it was initially Mitch’s job and at some point Pickett would step into that role. That’s easy to understand given the investment angle, but all of Tomlin’s comments about a fair competition between the three of them was nothing more than lip service.

Mason was never given Ample opportunity to grow and learn as a starter he had a game or two bad and they yanked him so fast for a duck. He deserved a whole season at least to try and be :steelflag:starter but I'm going to say this again they hate him for some reason I don't know why.

I actually had that thought as well. Belichick has become frustrated with Mac Jones. Mason was allegedly on the Patriots draft board which is why Pittsburgh moved up to get him. Mason is that classic pocket passer that Bill loves.

This is a bit of B.S. I have stayed silent for years since Mason was drafted to simply avoid all of this nonsense. As I stated, I live within 15 miles of Rock Hill where Mason lived and played. In fact, I refereed some of his HS games. Big deal right? Anywho, I do have a friend that is very close with Mason's family and I do get information here and there directly from this contact. I am also one of the few that have a signed jersey from Mason too. Not that it matters, but my friend got him to sign it.

Counter that Mason is not a good contributor in QB meetings is pure bunk. Last year, when Kenny was struggling and then in that one game where we needed a TD and they were 4th and 1 and KP threw the TD pass to Harris in the endzone, it was Mason that called that play. He went to Canada during the TO and told him Kenny likes this play and they ended up running it and it scored. That play started the run late last year. Mason and Kenny also have a good relationship which is more that can be said of his non-existent relationship with Ben. According to my family source, Ben never talked to Mason. Never helped him at all during those years. Mason was basically left to fend for himself.

Now, few outside the organization know that Mason was promised the starting job but that was before signing Mitch and then drafting Kenny. Tomlin flew out to Cali where Mason lives and works out during the offseason and told him that he was the man. 2 months later, he would be fighting to simply make the team as a 3rd stringer.

There is plenty of other nonsense that has gone on that simply does not get reported. I am not going to get into it here either as it is not my place. I have said enough. It is time for Mason to try and find another home IMO. Now, I do know for a fact that he does indeed love the Steeler organization but he also wonders why they hate him so much. Clearly, there is something going on with management since everyone can see that this guy has not been given a fair shot. He is on a very short leash. Any mistake is magnified out the waazoo. Meanwhile KP and Mitch are playing like crap but they get a pass. My hope is that this last performance has opened some more eyes in the NFL to where he could at least go and compete for a starting position.

Plain and simple, the Steelers have done this guy dirty and all Mason has done is keep his mouth shut, play his heart out while not demanding anything or throwing anyone under the bus. Maybe he is just too clean cut. As they say, nice guys finish last.

This Seahawks defense is a different beast altogether than what Mason faced last week. First off I don’t think he’ll see much of that cover 2 shell. The bungles also bracketed Muth leaving Pickens in single coverage. Even if the Seahawks do that same thing, I think they have better corners than Cincy (although I read somewhere on this board a bit ago that Artie Burns may play so maybe not)

Long story short, I’d personally like to see Mason get the start. If he can win in Seattle I would actually start to believe something magical was happening for the end of the season.

Think Tomlin’s making the right call here. And winning in game challenges?! A guy could get used to this.

agreed, he’s playing just as good, if not better than Pickett so far, might as well put our tenuous playoff chances in his hands

Im not so sure it’s anything intentional, MT is just a moron.

That being said last weeks game was definitely Masons best as a pro and he would have to show more of that to make me think he’s legit.

Look, I never said over the years that Mason was THE answer, but we will never really know if he is not given more than a passing chance. 10 games or whatever in 6 years is not a clear indication that he is a bum or a starter.

Now, if he starts this week, I wonder how long it will take for Tomlin to pull him if he throws an INT. Lord knows, folks in here will want his head if he throws an INT. I can only hope that he can somehow find his way out of Pittsburgh to somewhere else where he is given a legit chance. Maybe he is a bum, but his history with the Steelers says that he is a decent guy that simply wants to play before his clock runs out.

As I said in another thread, I'm fine with Mason starting but the caveat to his success is how he handles the pressure Seattle will bring. Thankfully, their defense should be susceptible to the run game. Going to be a tough game fo sho.

Ben was absolutely rotten toward Mason. When Mason was drafted, Ben complained about how they could have drafted other players. Then when Duck Hodges was signed the following year, all Ben talked about was how much fun Duck was to watch. When they signed Dewayne Haskins, Ben gushed over the strength of Haskins’ arm and how he was going to be something special. Never an encouraging word about Mason. Then comes Trubisky who Ben promoted saying you have to go with Mitch because of all his experience, then of course praising Pickett and admitting he didn’t want him to do well because he basically wanted to be missed. Which is case-in-point how he treated Mason. Ben takes every opportunity to put Mason’s ability in question. We all know about his recent comment that Mason has been here and they haven’t played him “Must be something, right?!!” I’ve always respected Mason and believed he could do well. I’ve lost even more respect for Ben and his handling of the situation toward Mason.

Not really. If you’ll recall, Duck was benched and Mason played against the NY Jets and was playing well when he got injured. It was late in the season and he didn’t play again. The next year Ben was back and Mason was never heard from again. You’ve got to remember that Mason showed some promise in 2019 when he was a couple of years younger than Kenny is right now. He was knocked unconscious by Earl Thomas and quite frankly never looked the same after that. Then the race baiting liar, Myles Garrett, tried to kill him with his own helmet and then tried to murder his character. He went through a lot in that stretch and when it looked like he may have recovered and was playing well against the Jets he got hurt and that was all she wrote. This “Duck beat him out” narrative is overblown big time. Rudolph went through a lot of turmoil and never got a fair shot after that.

Thank you for posting this, rutan. I agree that Mason hasn’t been given a fair shake and I’ve always wondered why. I think the way Ben treated him was pathetic, especially given the fact that Ben had made overtures to retirement and the Steelers had to prepare for the future. The QB “competition” last year was a sham, plain and simple. I’ve been a Kenny supporter since we drafted him and I still hope he can develop into an adequate quarterback (not even using franchise anymore and forget about elite). But I haven’t seen anything that gives me confidence that he can be other than a few good 4th quarter comebacks necessitated by the fact he’d played like crap in the first three quarters. He has a long way to go. As for Mason, I hope he continues to ball out these last two games and the Steelers offer him an extension to come back. But I think if he has any other option he’ll take it and leave and really I couldn’t blame him. Wherever he ends up, I’ll be rooting for him big time. I have a good friend who sat next to him on a flight once and he said Mason was the nicest guy you’d ever want to meet. He took a photo with him and everything. I guess nice guys really do finish last.

All the planets aligned against the bungles. Please tell me about the previous 3 games. How some forget.

Mason was fortunate to be retained, no other team wanted him. So I am of the "Lets see it again" crowd.

If he plays above average we might be able to keep him as the #2. Mitch the Pick needs to go.

But I can see if he plays well he will jet outta here to the first team that will give him the most money.

Its quite amazing how many teams have had to turn to back ups this season.

31 other teams didn’t want him

    That should answer your question

But if you feel bad for him he can have a participation trophy

Yep, and 32 teams passed on Tom Brady and Brock Purdy multiple times too. And I don’t really have a question, just an opinion. You know my thoughts on why he didn’t garner much interest in the off-season so I won’t repeat them here and now except today that a lying, race baiting fool can wreak havoc with a man’s character in the highly charged political climate we find ourselves in today. Once the accusation has been levied, that cloud of suspicion hangs around. You can’t convince me that there are 32 backup quarterbacks in the NFL who are better than Mason. No one has to agree with that assessment, but no one will ever convince me otherwise!

So your source told you that Rudolph called the winning touchdown pass to Harris. Let's put aside the fact that it was a broken play that worked because Pickett and Harris improvised well and note how little reason there is to believe that. My cousin's daughter's classmate's barber cut Rudolph's hair once and learned all sorts of secrets!

Nobody did Rudolph dirty. He wasn't good enough. Did you even play sports at any time in your life? If you did, you should know that no team or coach owes any player anything.

Teams take on guys with genuine character issues all the time and they are all desperate for quarterbacks. If they thought Rudolph could help, some team would have signed him. Your theory just doesn't hold up.
