Just dropped a little bit ago. I was really really hoping JT would be giving Mason's play a thorough breakdown, and that's just what we got, so...I'm pretty hyped up about that. It's like an extra Christmas Gift, really :lolol:

Granted, I only just started watching it, but - I figured I'd throw an early heads up to anyone else who might be interested in seeing JT's analysis of one Brett Mason Rudolph.

Since I missed the full game, I didn't see some of the low lights. There were only two passes from Mason that I thought looked objectively bad. The first one was a speed out to the right that could have been picked off, but thankfully wasn't.

The other one (21:00 into the video) has Mason missing a wide open DJ, who likely would have taken it to the house had the pass connected - I assume this is the the play that Mason himself was criticizing himself for after the game. If so, I can see why.

ironically, thr way it was overthrown and so inaccurate made it probably the only pass of his that looked like it was thrown by Kenny. If I didn't know any better I would have probably assumed that's who threw it. Just a bad, bad throw that Mason wishes he could have back and will hopefully get even more consistent at throwing.

It seemed to me as though JT liked a lot of what he saw with the rest of Mason's performance, as it was well executed and felt like something you might expect from a starting NFL-caliber starting QB. JT seemed particularly impressed by his sharp decision making skills, accuracy, touch to his throws, and courage when it matters, such as when he dived in, shoulder first, for a first down, at a point where most other QBs would have simply slid short of the marker.

A lot of the criticisms that he had didn't seem to really be put on Mason, but rather, at the types of playcalling schemes, use of personel, players being on the same page, etc. He thinks the offensive playbook is a bit too simplistic - and, of course, he's right. But, then again, considering Mason's just a third stringer coming in to toss the ball around after 2 years of no action, it makes sense that the playbook was perhaps even simpler than usual - and especially with a huge lead. Why go exotic when you don't have to?

Obviously though, this team's playcalling IS stale and even with Canada gone, they still desperately needs a real OC, which we can hopefully can get in the off season. Until then, though, may we do the best we can with what we've got!

I watched it yesterday. Good breakdown. That speed out does seem to be a staple of our offense for sure. JT pointed out that there were several other route tree options available from that same look but the Steelers rarely if ever run them. The throw to DJ was a bad miss, but I’m not too concerned about it because Rudolph’s timing will improve as he gets more reps with the ones. I’ve seen Kenny hit on throws like that so maybe a little unfair to say that throw looked like a Kenny throw. A Mitch throw maybe, lol.
