No, this is not about an extension for Mike Tomlin for those who hopped on here to bust my chops for making a duplicate post. I’m talking about an extension for one Mason Rudolph. Should the Steelers begin working on that extension today and kick Trubisky to the curb? I think Rudolph will have other opportunities in the off-season based on last night’s performance alone in spite of the Garrett stench. The guy can still play football and it was downright refreshing to see what competent quarterback play looks like.

The question is this. Will Rudolph even entertain an extension offer by the Steelers if other options are on the table given the way the Steelers have mismanaged his career to this point?

This is not traditionally how they work, and why would MR consider it? Unless they throw some offer impossible to refuse (which they won't) just wait it out.

Absolutely not. MR is a backup 3rd string QB for a reason. Some of you all have short memories.

Unless he sucks in the next two games he will actually have a market value when FA starts next year as opposed to last year

Steelers don’t do contracts now and Mason would be wise to wait until FA and he will

I suspect he would only come back if it was as number 2 and has a fair chance to compete for number 1

He will not sign to be a number 3 again

And other teams this time around will help dictate his contract value rather than vet minimum

I hope so. We all know if the team is not invested in you, you've got no shot. Then posters come here with their "opinion" that the guy is not starter material. Of course he is not, team is not paying him and will not give him a chance over a QB they are paying to start.

So, yes I hope he gets the money and his 2-3 year window to lead the team to the SB, and yes over Kenny and over whoever else they have in mind. He never got that chance while they were giving that money and chance to others.

Very short, but let him put these last 2 games on tape so the other 31 teams that had no interest in him last year may this upcoming off season.

I can see them trying to re-sign Mason in the offseason, first order of business is to cut Trubisky.

Short as in how? He was thrust into games his rookie season with a terrible offense then he played to a tie in a complete downpour a few years after. I'm not saying he is or isn't the guy but there's little game film to know

I can not, but hey everybody has an opinion. Why would Mason want to? Since
the Steelers have been so bad towards him?

He played a good game, against the same team the O had their first and only 400 yard game in a couple of years. To say MR had no chance is BS, to say he played one good game last night is not BS. Both can be true, if anything he at least gave GM's around the league a reason to look at him during the offseason, which is good for him. I like the guy, sometimes the chance you get is very narrow, but to say he was given no chances is wrong.

I'm not looking for an argument, but if you think MR hasn't had enough opportunities or has taken advantage of the ones he's had, then we'll just have to disagree. I mean, he couldn't keep the starting job to one Devlin Hodges when Ben was out. He couldn't beat out a rookie and an overdrafted throw-away from 2 other teams. Only reason he played yesterday is because the backup is just plain terrible and Tomlin may have been tarred and feathered had he trotted Trubisky out there again. Mason played well and the best game I can recall. But at this point in his career, you ought to be able to play a decent game with a whole week of practice as #1. MR is Landry Jones 2.0 and will forever be a backup. Add to that the unfortunate incident with Garrett where he may or may not have used a racial slur, and I'm a hard pass on MR. That said, he may be better than the other 2 QB options on the steelers which is less about MR being good and more about the other guys just plain sucking

You , and everyone already know what I think, and if two years of Me stating it isn't enough. I don't know what to say. I said before We brought in Trubisky, and Drafted KFP.....We should ride with Mason, and build the team.....then draft a Qb.

Neither am I. I was just curious of all the chances he had that I missed. I don't think he's the long term answer but I don't understand the hate. Maybe he should have kicked a girl on video, beaten up his gf, or anything demeaning to a women other than an on field confrontation with a player that went psycho then made something up.

Nobody will ever know for certain what was or wasn't said on the field in that moment and yes, I agree Garrett is psycho. Hell, I want MR to be the guy but after 5 years of getting bounced down the depth chart by guys like Trubisky, Hodges, Dobbs, Pickett, he just doesn't have what it takes, IMO. I wish him well and hope he can keep Tomlins non-losing season record intact <insert green font here>

1st. He actually beat out all of those guys..2nd It wasn't until they paid a FA Qb, and drafted a 1st round Qb that He was bounced down to 3rd string. It's hard to overcome this in a business run league. We are not the only team to do this. Just imagine if the FA signing by the Rams Trent Green never got hurt. We probably would have never seen Kurt Warner play, and they probably never win the SB.

Nobody beats out anybody in camp. QB positions are given away and no one earns it. QBs are signed to contracts or drafted high and given a starting position. There is no competition.
Mason was never given a starting job. Unlike Kenny and Mitch. They did not earn sht, they were anointed, given the money and given the starting position.

I actually agreed with STD then and I'll agree with him now. Should've stuck with Mason and/or a Gardnew Minshew type and built a team and then drafted a QB. Signing Mitch and drafting Kenny set this team back 3-4 years. And the poor drafts from 2019 through 22 set this roster back even further, which forced Omar to rely on FA to fill out the holes in the roster. I roll with the hot hand these last two games, but I bet Kenny starts in Seattle.

No other team wanted him last offseason, it could happen again, and he decides he wants to return to Pittsburgh.

Cincy was the perfect storm for Rudolph. No over the top help and zero pass rush. When Rudolph was starting he had the worst numbers in the league when pressured. People are so desperate for a QB they just want to pretend we haven’t already seen what Rudolph has to offer.

1 game and we are taking extension?

    I get saying
    - he knows the offense better. So that's a plus over Mitch
    - mitch can't run this offense with either coordinator. So that's another reason for MR.

But you wait until this season ends to decide what to do.
