Remember the bulky shoulder pads, knee pads, pads for the thighs. I think groin protection must've been better ( just guessing on this) Than somewhere NFL started going lite for speed. Trouble is guys started getting a lot bigger, stronger, quicker. Injuries are happening all over the place, maybe padding has something to do with it. Some of you guys who played from HS on up think there could be anything to this?

You're 100 percent correct. just look at the colts WR from saturday's game knees exposed no pads at all.
Franco Harris wore everything, hip pads, tailbone pads etc...Same thing with our back Warren no knee pads at all.NFL needs to make it mandatory they wear these pads especially hip, tail bone , knees

Have you watched college football, many just wear shorts it is ridiculous. Body wasn't built to be hit by 300 pounders that can run a 4,7 forty

I played QB from Peewee on up to College - and a couple Pro Tryouts.
Pads were a totally different thing than they are today.
I even had a single bar helmet.

I don't get the shorts, those turf burns hurt.

I remember those early artificial turf stadiums.
The one at WVU felt like that indoor/outdoor carpet laid over a thin pad over your cement driveway.
    But it was primitive.
Also back then, men carried clubs and clubbed the woman of choice to be his mate.
