Or were there others here who had no idea that the Steelers extended Trubisky back in May? Another unbelievable nonsensical head shaking moment. I just don't get what Khan was thinking here.

Tells you more about their superior offense concepts and schemes compared to what we're stuck with

I recall them extending him. He is due to earn less than $3m next year so it’s basically pointless cutting him, so expect him back in 2024

He is totally playing with no heart. Even when you watch him scramble, it’s clear he’s trying to prevent injury for the sake of continuing his easy career as 2nd or 3rd string NFL QB. I guess it’s hard to blame the guy, as he has just enough skills to hang around a few more years and make significant dollars.

I never really understood why on the first contract he got starter money, everyone knew we were gonna draft someone.

I think you're talking about this year....which is what I thought. He's due to make around 8 million next year and the year after because of the contract extension.

His cap hit is $8m but he will only be earning $3m and that’s all they’ll save if they cut him. As bad as he is you won’t get a comparable replacement at that cost

During the off-season Rooney was gushing over Tribisky, and how he wanted him back.

It was done to reduce his $11m cap hit this year because of the 2yr free agent contract

He counts for more than that. He gets $4.25M in base and another $2.3M in signing bonus, on top of a $1M roster bonus after the fifth day of the league year.

His cap hit next year is around $7.5m IF he is still on the roster, but it’s still $4.5 even if they cut him due to the bonuses he has already received. The effective cost of having him on the roster next year is less than $3m is what I meant. There is no point in considering bonus money that can’t be changed now when looking ahead.

He is bad, but when you factor in roster displacement and the hassle of finding a replacement it’s hardly worth cutting him.

They can save over $6m by cutting him in 2025 and he will certainly be gone at that stage

I thought you were speaking to his cost straight up if they kept him. I agree that his contract is such that it's unlikely they cut him.

Still, if they chose to they could designate him a post-June 1st cut and save $5.25M. But any backup short of another we'd not want to see in a game would eat that back up, and I don't see them drafting another QB early in 2024.

They need a better QB2, Kenny gets hurt often and Mitch just can’t carry the offence, he misses throws and turns it over too often. I hope they sign a Brissett or Dalton type that won’t make those mistakes. Guys like that can come in and not kill you for a few weeks if needed.

Mitch could stay as QB3 or may ask to be released so that he can find a team where he can get on the field. Good luck with that after what he has put on tape the past two years with the Steelers.

Brissett had a decent year with CLE, then again they have a functional NFL offense.

I agree with the sentiment that we may be stuck with Mitch another year. But the post-June 1 cap hit is $2,306,666 with a saving of $5,250,000. That seems pretty doable for someone that you don't want to see the field.

Often, with a new and experienced OC, they will want a veteran who has been in their system to be around. I think that could be a strong motivator to move on.

I was hoping for Brissett, he would have been perfect to play the year out and let the rookie an sit.

See if you can get something for Mitch, maybe you get lucky and someone gives you a 6th. I don’t care about his contract, he can’t be on the sideline next season, he offers nothing. Him and Rudolph gone.

They need to find a quality back up this off season and draft a developmental QB in Rds. 5-7.

Focus building the lines up in the draft and evaluate Pickett hopefully with a new coaching staff.

Of course, but realistically they are not going to be in a position to get a top QB prospect in the draft and they won’t get one in free agency so they are likely staying with Kenny next year.

Agree re Oline, they have invested a lot already there with Seumalu, Daniels, Broderick Jones, but they still need a center without a doubt. They should have a relatively high second round pick and that’s the sweet spot for interior Oline. I’m not a draft guy but by all accounts it’s a good center class.

I think they extended him because they wanted to lower his cap hit in 2023.

Yes, that 2nd round hope of getting Van Pran is getting more realistic by the week. I'd also think about going OT in the first.

Depending on how the board falls DB or OT in the first, C in the second would be ideal

Moore isn’t good but he is not so bad that you couldn’t live with him for another year, possibly moving to RT
