I rarely post any longer but I came across some old videos from the Steeler's finest hour, the 70's.

Since the Steeler's are quite stinky this year, I thought all of you might get a kick out of watching some games that really started it all.

For those of you not old enough to remember let alone watched, it will give you a glimpse of what it was like way back then. In 74, I was a senior in HS so I remember it quite well.

The quality on these are pretty good as I think they were remastered, so it is not that grainy or fuzzy, but compared to today's HD, many will wonder how we ever watched such crappy images. You will be shocked a bit at a number of things. First, TV graphics have come a long way. You are not bombarded with timers and data. There is no first down marker line on screen. Secondly, these players wore some huge pads. Rules were also slightly different too as you will see some hits that today are totally illegal but back then, it was normal play. The game definitely moves quicker too.

Like I said, I ran into a whole stream of these on you tube so I will post the links.

First up, 1974 AFC Championship game at the Raiders. The feed is the actual TV feed, but it will say that the sound is not there so they synced it with the actual national radio broadcast.

1976 AFC Semi Final against the Colts. Both Franco and Rocky get hurt in the blowout.

1978 Colts at Steelers in a snow bowl. 26 degrees and cold. Video is national, audio is Steelers broadcasters with Myron!

1979 AFC Championship. Oilers vs Steelers. This is the game with the controversial non call of the Oilers TD. No replay at the time but the TV replay clearly shows the Oilers scored. They wouldn't of won anyway but... Another cold game.

Ohh, one item I did not remember from that 1974 team. Joe Greene was the defensive player of the year. Lambert was the defensive rookie of the year. Now, for the life of me, I cannot remember if this ever happened again. Two defensive player's of the year on the same team. That is how good these guys were. Oakland had the best offense, yet the Steelers gave them a major beat down.

There's a sticky thread with a docu-mini that has the players wives sitting around talking about salary negotiations and where they're husbands were working in the off-season.

A lot of younger fans don't realize that before the big salaries of today, pro sports players usually worked normal jobs in the off season. Steve Blass from the Pirates would come to our HS every year to sell class rings to the Senior class for Jostens jewelry.

I rewatched the 1979 afc championship game last week. Funny how much the game has changed. Pretty much every hit Pastorini took would be a 15 yard personal foul these days

They didn’t even have a way for QBs to keep their hands warm, TB shoving his in his armpits.

My early years consisted of following the Steelers through NFL Films and box scores in the newspaper. Much more enjoyable game back then, IMO.

Some forget that's why ESPN became big in the first place. if you missed it you didn't see anything but a quick blerb on the local stations sports report. If you weren't local, you didn't get to see anything on your team.

    ESPN changed all that

Oh but that mother f...... scroll at bottom. In early 90's I was pumped about the Pirates. Had to work early so couldn't stay up for a lot of the games. I would wake up in the middle of night and first thought was always what'd the Bucs do? Today's world I'd roll over, hit safari and have the score in a second. Back then I'd turn TV on and sit half dead waiting for the scroll at bottom. 90% of time I just missed it and it was a pain in the ass wait.

I no longer have that need to check their score. Shocking, I know;)

Chris Berman doing highlights and talking football. Then he started with the nicknames while doing the highlights and it all just blew up at ESPN.

If that’s the game I remember it was cold sloppy and wet and I was sitting in peanut heaven on cold plastic and cement

It was a good day :smiley1:
