He only had 4 sacks this season when we wasn't injured the writer asked Woodley about his conditioning and he got up and walked away after today's game. That's gutless you're the highest paid defensive player on the team time to start acting like it. After the game Woodley is on facebook talking about how he will get back to work tomorrow and thanking the fans for sticking with the team, he's full of it watch him show up for training camp heavy.

This is absurd, the writer is on crack, this failure of a season has zilch to do with Woodley.

I agree wholeheartedly, but if this motivates woodley to come back stronger and prove this writer wrong, than i'll consider it a good thing.

To blame Woodley solely is absurd. Having said that, Woodley's underperformance ths year was MOST CERTAINLY one of the reasons our season SUCKED WIND!!!

I agree! Wood is my guy but the first few games he looked slow and a step behind. Hs injuries didn't help at all but if you want a leader on D he could be the guy if he wants it but he has got to earn it!

To blame Woodley as the sole owner is way over the top.

That being said, his performance was flat out embarrassing for what he's supposed to be bringing to the table.

Woodley took the money and tanked it in. A few times today I could of swore I saw no attempt to evade blockers on pass rushing situations just him playing patty cake with his blockers. Pathetic, but no way is he solely responsible for this collapse.

When did Woodley switch to the offensive side of the ball? That's where the problems were.

The problems were all over the place. Only a half dozen players showed up for the season.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!!! We had the #1 Defense, so no blame there. Our offense and the late int's are to blame. I count three games we could have won but Be threw a late int. Denver, Dallas and the Bengals. We also couldn't get a first down to finish the game in Oakland. That's 4 loses that should have been wins. I also think we should have won the first game against Baltimore too. It's ALL on the offense.

The reality (I know some on here hate that word), is Woodley is not worth the money he is being paid. Like many before him , once the big contract was signed he went into hibernation mode. He has become fat, slow and lazy. If he was making one mill a year to play this way maybe you wouldn't mind as much but not at eight mill a year.
Would you pay 50K for a Chevy Colbalt? Of course not.

Can we please stop with the our d was #1 non sense? To say that our d shares no blame in this hot mess of a season, is ridiculous.

if Woodley could of only completed those 2 passes instead of throwing int's in the last 2 games and if he would have caled better plays and if he would of not dropped so many passes or fumbled so much they would of made the playoffs.

Woodley is a terrible offensive weapon..... oh i forgot, he plays defense and the defense was ranked #1.

Woodley had a terrrible year, but his side of the ball was not the reason they missed the playoffs.

The defense played well enough to win every game in the last 3/4 of the season. (even the SD game because the offense sucked so bad that game). The offense could not get a 1st down and kept going 3 and out or turning it over to give SD great field position.

This. The defense may have been "rated" number one, but they weren't the number 1 defense. They had some good games, but they also had some downright pitiful games. There were times we had a lead, or just needed a defensive stop to win, and the D didn't come through when it counted most, statistics or not.

I don't blame Woodley solely for the disappointing season. There is a lot of Blame all around. Everybody but Suisham and Heath deserve some along with the coaching staff. I have to be honest though. Once Woodley signed the big contract he completely disappeared from the player he once was.

Completely agree! The offense had it's issues for sure, but what team was honestly afraid of this defense this year?

:this!: Woodley has to know, everybody is talking about his conditioning. If he comes back to training camp the same way, then he just doesn't give a s--t. I would then find a way to trade him or get rid of him. Making the money he makes with that production is stealing.

What is simply amazing to me is that New England's AVERAGE points per game (34) was higher than our best scoring game (31). We only beat Denver's (30), New Orlean's (29), Washington's (27.3), and Green Bay's (27.1) average point total one time during the season. Our second highest point total was 27 (twice). We rely on defense to win. Our average points scored per game was 21, right between Tennessee and Buffalo.

The offense needs to score another six points per game to keep up with the big boys. The defense only let up 19.6 points per game average, Seattle was the leader at 15.3. Our defense let up fewer than 15 points 7 times.

It's already been commented on this board that the defense started slowly this year. It was never dreadful, but it did leave a lot to be desired during the first quarter of the season. Tomlin acknowledged this as well (last press conference), but he recognized how much better they performed as the year moved on.

I can understand wanting more from the defense (sacks, turnovers, getting off the field sooner, etc.). And it goes without mentioning that offense, defense, special teams, coaches, and players could have all performed better and thus share some blame for this year's lack of success. However, it seems very clear to me that offensive ineptitude was the greatest weakness of the team in 2012.

    Offense rankings:
    Avg yards per game--21st overall
    Avg points per game--22nd overall
Avg passing yards per game--14th overall (16th in ypp)
Avg rushing yards per game--26th overall (28th in ypc)

    Defense rankings:
    Avg yards per game--1st
    Avg points against per game--6th
Avg passing yards per game--1st (1st in ypp)
Avg rushing yards per game--2nd (tied for 3rd in ypc)*

*The Steelers entered their last game of the season with a realistic chance to do what only one other team in history has done. Namely, to finish ranked first in total, passing, and rushing yards allowed.

does woodley play O? did he drop all the passes? did he throw the crucial interceptions. did he fumble 5 times in a game.. anyone that blames the D is a complete moron... the O was 95% of the problem this season and for a sports writer to blame woodley and a member to even repeat it is totally stupid ..

we need a coach that give back the killer instinct to the players , on offense and on defense , this game is a war and they have to smell blood , tomlin is too finesse and the players feels it . somebody will become fat somebody uninterested others want to find the way alone , this team is not coached to kill or to be diabolic ,till they will not change the mentality they will always struggle to finish their job . we need to regain the ferocity .
