Harrison won't retire. If the Steelers release him, he'll play for someone else. He may hate the way the game is played, he may hate Godell, but he's not a guy who's gonna get a NFL Today job. For James Harrison, it play LB at a reduced but veery high salary or pump gas. Not a hard a choice

let me explain you , his cap hit is 10 milion next year ,we are over the cap right now , all the big salary should be restructured or cut , do you restructure a guy at his age ? the best should have ask a pay cut but who is so brave to go and tell him , expecially when you are restructuring woodley that is playing worst than him ?

Yep...PG is reporting it. There is a lot flying there right now, it's downright depressing. Even Tomlin isn't exempt from the PG criticism.

Not sure how much JH loves the Steelers but, could he just tell the front office that I will only play for the steelers so cut my pay to what ever will keep me on the team. I am sure this is unrealistic in todays world but I just feel that if player loves playing for his team he would do what ever would help the team and allow him to play and be a part of the team for as long as possible.

If he does retire can he be the strength and conditioning coach. He seems like he knows how to push some weight around.

If he can get healthy over the offseason, it's a no-brainer to keep him. I think that his lack of explosiveness at times this year was both overblown and injury-related.

I hope he gets to get healthy and return. He's one of the greatest.

He was one of the greatest, but the guy is getting up there in age and could very well be done. Betting $10 million on whether or not he can return to his form of 2 years ago is a huge risk.

I think Mcclendon taking over the starting role can open up things big time for all the linebackers. Hampton has been great and might still be a little more disciplined against the run but McClendon just seems to man handle people when he knows he has to rush the passer. Tomlin says the guy has gotten bigger and stronger every year for the past three seasons and it shows. Throw in a more developed Cam Heyward and you never know, maybe we see another great year with the Woodley, Harrison combo.

toward the end of the year he started to come on strong, he just needs more time to recoup when injured -hence -pay-cut. but I do think he played better than Woodley

You are sadly mistaken if you think Silveback was better than LLoyd! Oh well to each his own.

Silverback got a late start and Lloyd did it for a slightly longer time, but if you look at the quality of the years given, I think Harrison is absolutely better. No question about it.

That's just my opinion. I'm not a huge numbers guy, but the numbers are stacked on Harrison's side. Of course it should be noted they were on different teams in different eras. And I tend to lean towards the belief that a sack is a somewhat meaningless statistic. Not totally meaningless, but blown way out of proportion. But if you're curious:

Harrison: 0.67 sacks per start, 0.36 turnovers per start

Lloyd: 0.39 sacks per start, 0.33 turnovers per start

What I don't have is any stats on frequency of QB rushes. That's the one that I think gets overlooked so much with Harrison. He spends almost half his time in coverage, as opposed to other pass rush specialist "linebackers" who spend like 5% of their time in coverage. Of course, Lloyd was also on the Steelers and I think under LeBeau for a big chunk of it, so it might have been the same for him. I factor that in when I compare Harrison to guys like Ware and Suggs, but I'm not really factoring that in here. I just think James is better.

Wow, pretty disrespectful, if Warren Sapp can hold a job as an analyst, JH can.

How about a "Young and Healthy" Harrison. No doubt he was a dominant force, but no way he can do the things he used to: speed rush, cover guys, jump over them, run an Int back 102 yards...

young would have been probably the best , i think if he can stay healthy he is still the biggest problem for opposite oline

Would you want him closing in on Ben? The dude is still a beast who is coming off an injury. Ray Lewis is 37 and will probably be back next year as well.

Actually, Lewis just announced this is his last year, if I heard that correctly on the radio before.
