They’re both open, but that isn’t the point. One option there are 3 defenders and the other only one. The smart move is to go to the player that’s one vs one. If for no other reason he doesn’t have to throw over anyone.

Thank you for posting this video. I took away more than the usual Canada's route scheme and play calling stinks and Pickett is doing a terrible job finding the open receiver. Those things are definitely true. But I also saw just how bad Moore, Cole and Muth are at pass blocking. I also saw how sloppy and undisciplined the receivers are running their routes. Not sure how much of this mess can be cleaned up with 7 games left. It is just a bad offense from top to bottom right now.

This reminds me of Fields earlier in the year, same type of film, not seeing wide open guys and then the icing on the cake that made the rounds on social media, he had 3 wide open receivers and didn’t throw the ball. The following news conference he basically threw his coach under the bus saying coaching is causing him to think too much. He then went on to say something to the effect he just has to go out and play football. Next game he threw 4 TD passes and has seemed to get back on track. It’s true that coaches can overload players with too much information and they basically freeze out there.

Hopefully thats the case for Kenny. I expect him to look much better this week. Not 4 TD’s better but at least back to what we were watching last season.

The thing I didn't like the most is that I don't see Kenny ever looking downfield and trying to read the defense after the ball is snapped. It is like he is told exactly where to throw the ball to on every play, so there is no reason to look downfield, or to the left or right, because he knows where the ball is going.

I don't know if this is OC not letting his QB read the field, or if Kenny is doing this on his own.

Last Sunday's game he was trying to get rid of the ball as soon as possible, so maybe this had something to do with it.

That theory kind of flies in the face of the whole offense is too simple etc

I mentioned this earlier, but it is odd how Pickett has largely ignored Pickens since DJ returned. I know that behind the scenes lobbying for the ball isn't unusual, but could it be so strong that it's affecting Pickett's play?

Pickett has to be able to manage that as the QB, but it can have a detrimental effect on a young QB. The Steelers let Plaxico Burress walk in 2004 for just this reason.

Agreed, but what most people on here are failing to get....is he never said that's what it was....he said he thinks that's what it was, and that's how He sees it....Also if He just went to the open man....nobody would care about the other route.....Well JMO, but if I'm going to listen to what a ex Qb thinks He sees, ...it will be one that was successful at seeing it....not one that isn't. Otherwise....I will go by My own eyes. JMO... No I never played Qb once in My life, but I was taught to watch film from a D perspective.

It seems to me to be less the simplicity and more the construction of the reads. Plus a fair bit of KP just not playing that well.

But I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

I believe it was called "vanilla" and other team defenses said they knew what was coming.

I love ya, STD, but I don't always have the time or skill to know exactly what I'm looking at when it comes to every play. I'll see that a play doesn't work while I'm watching, but it's admittedly difficult for me to, at times, figure out the nuts and bolts as to why something may have fallen flat. Being able to get a perspective from someone who's played actual football, with xs os and route lines is invaluable to me, as I've never played a single game of actual football in my entire life, and my only video game football experience is Tecmo Bowl on the NES.

I think I do reasonably well at analyzing things from an instinctual, gut perspective, but not so much on a technical level, thus I find breakdowns of that nature to be useful - if that means that I like being "spoonfed", then I guess by your definition, maybe so. However, I would personally be more inclined to label hot take commentary with talking heads to be more in line with being spoonfed than I would looking at a play-by-play visual breakdown from a former QB...but your mileage may vary, and that's okay, too. : D

EDIT: I'm not even sure if you were criticizing people for looking to video breakdowns or not, tbh, so maybe I've misread what you're talking about haha. If I have misunderstood, then my apologies.

I will, and have, praised Kenny when he's done well - it just seems like I haven't because he hasn't actually done well in what seems like ages. Believe it or not, I actually wanted Kenny to be drafted by the Steelers and was excited when he was. I think you have this impression that I never liked Kenny, never wanted him on the team, or would never want him to succeed - if so, then you would be wrong on every account. It actually pains me to see Kenny falling so well short of what I believed he was capable of. If I'm being honest, it's made me seriously question what I was even thinking to begin with, because all signs are pointing towards him not being particularly very good at his position.

Do I want him to turn it around and be the guy I hoped he would be? Of course I would. I'd love to see "Comeback Kenny" being a thing, but given all of the available information from the all 22s and elsewhere, it seems more likely that Kenny will not meaningfully improve...especially given his age when entering the league, which was literally 2-3+ years older than your average QB rookie.

What exactly about his performance thus far is fueling the (at times almost surreal amounts of) optimism that you havw for the guy? I'm not asking as a smart ass, I would like to honestly know what I'm missing. If he isn't the guy, I'd like to accept it as early as possible and plan ahead for what comes next.

I also don't even disagree that the line hasn't helped Ksnny very much in the slightest. Furthermore, I could be wrong, but I think we would both agree that the coaching on this team is awful and that it many of its problems start with Tomlin and the seemingly subpar culture that he instills on the field and in the locker room. I think Kenny would hlbe demonstrably better if he had access to better coaching and a better o-line...however, given the tape on him thus far, I'm also not really convinced that he would be improved by all that much, even with those things. His vision, his reads, his accuracy, arm strength and pocket awareness are all to varying degrees either mediocre or just plain bad, and some of those are things that tend to be more or less set in stone and are therefore not be easily corrected. Still, Tomlin and Canada have seemingly done nothing to even try to work to Kenny's strengths or to give him actual confidence, which sucks, and has clearly been to his detriment, irrespective of his actual talent level.

That's sports chat forums in general, unfortunately. And more often than not it's people that are mad at their fate in this life, losing money to the bookie, etc.

Showing me it again in detail and slow motion is the very definition of Torture. No sir, I will not agree to be “water boarded” with it on film.

Ah geeze, GoldBurgh, I actually tried to give you a measured and reasonably well-articulated response and this is the non-response I get?

    For shame. ;)
