He's gone, I think he stewed all year about how he thinks the Steelers "disrespected him", he still thinks he's worth big money AND he doesn't like Haley's system and the fact he doesn't get to go deep often enough.

Even if the Steelers offer him a contract similar to Brown's or better I don't see him staying. His skill set just isn't suited to the type of offense Haley is running and he knows that. He will go to a team that will utilize his speed as a deep threat and show him the money.

Can we franchise him then trade him?

If Wallace would see the potential of catching short slants/screens and getting YAC, he would be in a better position.

He's not built for taking those hits across the middle, breaking tackles on short passes etc. It should also be very clear that he doesn't like it. How many times have we seen him lay down for a lack of a better term when facing a hit?

Not to mention that if we ever had a good Oline and good running game, Haley would be much more willing to go deep more often. Wallace just has no interest in short passes, he basically said as much when he talked about losing focus despite being on pace for more catches in a season than ever before. If he loses focus with more catches than he's ever had before, there's no hope for the guy. Good riddance.

He's not built for it but other small, speed receivers are? I've played football myself and have seen small guys going across the middle at full speed, and many of them have gotten blown up. Most of the time they get right back up and do it again. Wallace is big enough to take the hits.

You're dead on with the second part though, he simply doesn't like going across the middle, he doesn't like catching in traffic, nor does he like getting hit. He's pretty much the exact opposite of Hines Ward.

Good riddance Mike Wallace. I prefer guys willing to go over the middle and take that hit, guys willing to lay it all on the line for the team, not guys who are only in it for personal glory. Hines Ward must just shake his head at this guy. Wallace is not typical Steelers material.

Swann had a bad rep around the league for being soft, but the guy took lots of big hits and from the film I saw, never shyed away from taking a big hit to make a big play.

Not being able to take the hits and not wanting to take the hits are two completely different things. He is wearing pads and a helmet just like everyone else on the field so he needs to man up or change his style and be more like Ward. Come across the middle, sit in the zone, make the catch and then decide what your next move is based on where the defenders are. That is how receivers avoid getting blown up.

Swan, always adjusted to the where the ball was thrown, and would go to get the ball, whether it was through someone or over someone, he did what he had to in order to catch the ball. Something Wallace hasen't learned to do yet. If he did those things than he would be worth the big bucks. We just haven't seen him aggressively go after the ball like great receivers do along with not having the best hands in the world.

If he still wants the money that the great receivers get and nothing less, you got to let him go or trade if possible, because he is not a great receiver!

Im not going to sit here and bash Wallace. He's a great player, but not perfect. All players have their short-comings and he's no different. He just wants more money than the Steelers can afford. Period. End of Story.

So good luck to Mike. Best of luck to him on his new team.

WHy on god's green earth would you compare Wallace with a member of the hall of fame? THe guy is just really fast with average hands and a bad habit of using his body to catch the ball. He's no where near as gifted a receiver as Swann.

Also comparing Ward and Wallace is absurd. They're too entirely different players with different skill sets. When you have fast(absurdly) fast receivers you want to hit them in stride on timing routes not have them go sit down in a zone. Talk about mismanaging talent.

Just checking. As fans of the greatest team in NFL history we have had the honor of observing greatness perhaps more than fans of any other sports franchise and Wallace does not qualify.

Just think of it this way, why would Wallace want to go in the middle of the field? He knows it's his contract year and if he goes down the middle he's going to get popped risking a injury that can significantly decrease his value. Im convinced he played this season safe for the most part to avoid injury.

Why would he want to go across the middle? It's part of his job.

Regardless, I guess he has always been in a contract year because he has never been an across-the-middle guy.

My only concern is next season with Wallace gone, teams will not have to respect the deep ball against us meaning more press zone coverage and a repeat of our last 3 games all season. But then again if this is how Wallace plays in a contract year imagine how he's gunna performs when he gets the $$$. He probably won't even show up to the games, not like he showed up this year though anyways.
