He needs to relax. Matt Canada just now finished Chapter 2 of the official Offensive Coordinating for dummies book. Running plays are covered in Chapter 5.

    I just read that also.

That seems like a reasonable thing to actually be upset over, aka no adjustments blah blah blah.

However, May he have voiced his frustrations the wrong way?

    He probably said
    “ hey Mike
    Canada Sucks” Tomlin
Then said “ that’s not nice speaking about our neighbor to the north like that. You are now in a timeout”

Ummm….Tomlin controlling players and situations is sort of part of maybe in a small way his job. You can be frustrated. You can also be professional about it. What Chuks said was out of frustration. But he has to be a professional.

This has been a pattern of repeated behavior during Canada's tenure. Mason Cole ripping his helmet off during a failed 4th down against Houston is just one of many examples of the line not being pleaded with Matt's Offensively Offensive play calling. Chuks doing what he did is much of the same.

Players can and will go south if repeated forms of incompetence continue; cornerstone franchises like the Steelers or not being irrelevant. With any luck, Omar Kahn and Andy Weidl can acquire one soon.

Funny how the frustration is only on the offensive side. And it should be. What Chuks said is true. Predictable. Opposing defenses have said the same.

Hopefully this garbage offensive coordinator rides off into the sunset, moonlight, who cares and Kahn and Weidl alone with Art II hire a competent innovative mind who brings in his own staff. Tomlin can be involved but he doesn't make the decision. And i'm not on board with Byron Leftwich who would be another puppet. Let Tomlin coach the team and worry about the defense and leave the offense to someone living in the present not the past.

The really sad part and I'm not defending Canada by any stretch of the imagination is that if they kept running the same play is that they didn't do it right any of the times they ran it. I have zero problems with running the same play 100 times if it is executed right and works, but it isn't being executed right and its not working. So hey oline be frustrated but don't shift the blame. Put your man on his backside and make him know it's a lunchpail day.

I remember them doing that to the bengals. They ran the same off tackle play several times in a row. By the end of the game Dalton literally gave up

And yet Jones still looked better doing those same plays than He did.

Thats the truth of the matter. Jones looks better doing it than Chuks does. People I can't tell You when the Bus was here how many times in a game We ran the same four running plays. Yet nobody said a word then. Why ???? Because they executed them well.

That doesn't mean there isn't a problem with Canada's playbook and play-calling, but I'm sure it didn't help Okorafor's cause that benching him also got Jones into the lineup. If Okorafor's outburst really was the reason for the change, I'm glad he said it because the team line is so much better with Jones in his place.

It sounds like Chuks got into trouble by not wanting to play at the end of the Jags game. He told Tomlin that he wanted the team to take a Knee for the rest of the game in the 4th QTR. There was 1:52 left in the game and the Steelers were down by 10.

It is funny as I remember hearing stories of Bubby Brister doing something like this his last year in Pittsburgh. The Steelers were trailing badly and wanted to pull their starting QB and have Bubby finish the game, but he refused to go out there and hand the ball off to closeout the game. I think Brister was released the next day.

Had to do a Google search to verify my story.
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Chuck Noll plans to meet with unhappy quarterback Bubby Brister, who said, "I don't mop up for anybody" after refusing to play in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 31-6 loss to Houston. Brister, who hasn't played since Oct.
https://www.tampabay.com/archive/19...lers coach Chuck Noll, hasn't played since Oct.

Is it possible that if you keep running the same play that the defense knows what play you are running and therefore defends it properly

    Asking for a friend

Lombardi's power sweep was pretty much the same play and teams could not defend it.

It is possible and it's also very possible to have perfect execution and still have a defender make a heck of a play to break it up. I'd even go so far as to say by this point in a season they should have lucked themselves into a 350 yard game but the video evidence says not so much.

Now I'm getting over another case of covid and have been having some fever dreams or hallucinations so I can't remember which of the last two games it was but I saw the big FA acquisition at LG get worked off the line end up behind Pickett with his hands on his hips watching his QB getting sacked and didn't seem in too much of a hurry to get defenders off him. This leads me to conclude that execution wasn't as tight as it should be. Then again I saw wall texture moving the other morning and thought an annoying anime doll of my oldest was moving during the night so my noggin might have some screws loose.

Jones is an upgrade and i'm feeling real positive that he will be moved to left tackle next season although he should have already stayed there and had Moore be the swing. The guy looks more and more like a franchise player.

Chuks will now be the swing and sitting pretty well on the bench with what he is being paid. He will be gone the minute the new league year starts in 2024 unless Khan can trade him.

But what he said was not wrong.

That 60 years ago. Game plans were simpler. Also, the results justified the repetition. The Steelers' results do not.

I was listening to a discussion about this on the Fan this afternoon. It's possible both stories are true. Never heard of Chuks having any sort of an attitude problem, so I assume that if one or both stories are true, his words weren't presented in a disrespectful or confrontational manner. All that being said, THIS is the hill Tomlin chooses to die on? Pickens and his hissy fit are, to quote him directly, "A pebble in his shoe." Mr. Big Chest being a complete a-hole is overlooked? Some other antics that raised brows among Steeler Nation get explained away but this is the line Tomlin draws in the sand. How convenient that a #1 draft pick is the guy that has to take Chuks' place since he is being benched? He isn't going to make the change because it appears to the unwashed masses that the line might be better with Jones than with Chuks. No. The change is made because a respected vet acted out.

Maybe I'm making more of this than there really is, but this looks like blame shifting to me.

@jeh1856@jeh1856 asked if it was possible. It is possible with the right talent and right coaching. We know the Steelers are lacking in at least one of those areas, possibly both. Every great scheme, offensively or defensively, starts with a foundation that the coaches implement and the players execute. Lombardi's Packers created scheme where many average players became HoFers. The Steelers defense of the 1970s had the talent and carried out their scheme to perfection during a 9-game stretch in 1976. The West coast offense was designed by Walsh because his less talented team needed a way to compete. Once he added better players, the scheme helped them become HoFers.

It is obvious the Steelers do not have the right coaching or scheme.

DK and Ramon Foster are saying this idea about Chuks talking about running the same play over and over again, is 100% WRONG. It never happened. This alternate theory is 100% make believe, so the author can push his "Blame Matt Canada for Everything" agenda.

Goto 20:30 and you will see someone ask about the Same Run play BS story.
