    ...the first one.

LOS was the 6. FG was kicked from the 14 and missed. The Bengals took over on the 20. What gives? I thought that the other team took over at the spot of the kick which should have been the 14 for the Bengals. I noticed it right away, but completely forgot about it with all of yesterdays excitement.

    Am I missing something here?

I wondered the same thing. I thought they said it was a 24 yrd kick.

If a missed FG is spotted inside the 20 then the ball is placed at the 20. That's the rule.

If a FG is kicked inside the 20 and is missed, the other team gets it at the 20. That's the rule. It's always been that way.
A gazillion years ago, teams got the ball at the 20 for all missed FGs. Sometime in the '70s, in order to discourage FGs (and to force teams to be more aggressive on offense), the changed the rule to give the opponent the ball at the LOS if a FG is missed. They later changed it to the spot of the kick. For some reason, they didn't extent this rule for kicks inside the 20.

No one should have to know that rule - kicks shouldn't be missed from 29 yards and in. :bscow:

Although it looked like a shank to me, one of the officials made a signal indicating that the kick was tipped. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

It was tipped. The photo was on the front page of the Sports section in the Cincinnati enquirer clearly shows that it was. I don't believe it would have though if the snap and hold had been better. Suisham kick the laces solidly.

The snap was bad, the timing was then thrown off, and the laces were out. A good snap and hold and that was an easy 3.

Better yet, Ben could have had us at 1st and goal easily just before that but tried a very difficult throw. Should have just taken another step and went down for 1st and goal.

Don't blame Suish, blame the offense for not getting 7
