    Yes or No.

There is no middle ground here. Discuss in thread.

this whole elite or not elite arguement regarding Ben is getting so old.

he has 2 rings and has helped the Steelers get to 3 super bowls. he also has kept this team a legit power since he has been there. sure they have had some rough seasons, but all in all they are always a contender with Ben.

is he in the same category as Brady, P. Manning or Rogers? no, but he gets it done usually in his own way. he does it different than those guys, but last time i checked only Brady has more rings.

Ben had a pretty good season this year and up until he got hurt he was in the MVP talks. so after 2 bad throws we are again debating his relivance and status.

There are 10 other players on offense that makes a QB elite, Eli was all of a sudden declared Elite after winning last years superbowl, but now since the giants are struggling with two blowout losses in row he is a bum: So who and what decides what an Elite quarterback is? What is the criteria for that verdict? Ben has been in 3 superbowls, but was he alone the deciding elite factor that got the team there, or was the team Elite? I think once a QB retires his body of work decides if he was a top 5 or not, and usualy he gets inducted into the HOF if his career accomplishments warrants him that honor....

Yes - he is still elite. He was having an incredible year before the injury and I don't think he was totally healthy after he came back. Ben is the ultimate team player and I think he came back at a point that was probably too early.

The bottom line is we need a full season with a healthy Ben Roethlisberger. We haven't had one the past 2 seasons and we see where we've landed. Hopefully next year will be a year that he can show this. He's still got a few years left in his prime and I hope they are not wasted.

Let's go Steelers! We need at least one more SB from this elite quarterback.

For comparison's sake, everyone says Peyton is elite. With the exception of 1 year, Peyton never has come through when it counted most. Yet he is considered an elite QB. Ben has taken this team to 3 Super Bowls and been on the winning side of two of those.

In addition, the years between Bradshaw and Ben (with the exception of O'Donnell) were a time where I got used to saying, "oh well, there's always next year." That has been the case far less with Ben at the helm.

You people who think Ben is not good or who want to trade him apparently don't know how to look at the big picture to see what reality is.

I voted yes if I have to vote one way or the other. But I would describe him as "elite light" at this point in his career. Until he improves in the mental/intellectual part of the game he won't truly be elite in the same sense that Manning, Brady and Rodgers are.

Rather than elite, I prefer to break players down into categories.

The top category of QB's is as follows

    Brady
    Peyton Manning
    Drew Brees
    Aaron Rodgers

Then the next category is guys who are right on the fringe of making it into that top category, or guys who have the potential but just haven't had the time to prove it yet

    Matt Ryan
    RG3
    Andrew Luck
    Matt Stafford

Then you have the guys who can at times carry a team on their back and single-handedly win games for their team. They will also lose games single-handedly and struggle far more often than the top category. They're very good QB's, arguably great QB's, but they'll never make it into that top category due to their inconsistent play

    Big Ben
    Eli Manning
    Tony Romo
    Joe Flacco
    Cam Newton

Then you have guys who can have big games at times, but struggle a lot and are more ordinary than anything else

    Andy Dalton
    Philip Rivers
    Josh Freeman

Then there's some up and comers who still need a few more years to find their true spot

    Sam Bradford
    Russell Wilson
    Colin Kaepernick
    Ryan Tannehill
Cam Newton (yes, I put him in two categories, as I'm not sure he's reached his true potential yet)

Then there's everybody else who isn't worth mentioning

I voted yes. I agree with others. He was having a great year until he got injured. He did not look the same after coming back. I believe it was more than just being rusty. I know he was cleared to play, but you just wonder how bad he was still injured.

Of course he is elite. He has Two super bowl rings. Maybe the Steelers should redo his contract before it runs out and pay him 30 million a year for another 10 years. After all if you make the most you must be the best right?:applaud:

Yes of course! This year we had China Doll players that got hurt taking a shower, I do think Tomlin needs to do condition the players better.

Wow this poll got some good responses.

I'm with a few of the talking heads on this one. There's a rush to say someone's elite while they're still playing. Let it simmer after they retire then come back to the conversation.

He has played poorly since coming back and he knows it. You can see by the look on his face. He's not 100%.

Bookmark this and let's vote again next year after Ben's next season. How he comes back from this collapse and the injuries will tell me a lot about him and whether he cares about being a better QB.

    Merry Christmas all.
