Looks like we'll be facing Will Lewis when Titans come to town. He had a monstrous debut yesterday with 4 TDs. Why can a rookie like Lewis come in and play like John Unitas and make it look easy and Pickett still struggling in his 2nd year? This is an offensive league and we play like a team from 1976 facing Steel Curtain week in and week out for 3 freakin years. So sad.

Well, it could be a fluke. Or that they have a better system. Or that Levis is just a better QB than Pickett. All options seem viable at this point.

Hell, the Titans have a superior OC. I love Pittsburgh's Offensive Weapons far more than I do the Titans... but none of that matters really. Even George Pickens has far more talent than any skill position player on that team with the possible exception of Derrick Henry.

That all said, saying that Levis could potentially be a better QB than Pickett isn't entirely out of the question; doubly so since Will's debut has been far more impressive than what Pickett has been able to do all season long.

The very real and simple answer is that teams like Jacksonville, Houston, and Tennessee admit that they have areas to address due to injured players and prepare for the weekly opponent in an effort to get the most out if their players if possible. As trite and infinitely more stupid as it sounds the Steelers do what they do. They fail to prepare and they fail to adjust. 2 examples from yesterday one each from both sides of the ball.

Defense: The run Etienne had that put them at 1st and goal before the pick. Highsmith off the edge came right into the block intent on engaging the block from the LT, Holcomb then flows into the gap created by the LT being engaged where he should attack the ball carrier behind the line. Instead he sets his feet and fully engages the block by the LG. The only reason you make those two moves is if a safety or the other inside backer is a 3rd man coming free to attack the RB. There was no 3rd man. Holcomb and Highsmith succeeded in creating a lane for the rb to get a solid rush. Poor preparation and poor in game realization.

Offense: They were so scared of Pickens getting behind them that they gave him a base 5 yards as a cushion sometimes almost 10 while playing tight on DJ on the opposite side. At no point to Canada his staff or Tomlin identify the free yardage they were being gifted and take a one step drop and hit Pickens on the quick slant until they stopped it.

Bonus example: Watch the Jags run defense. They were patient and waited for the running back. They didn't fly into blocks just to do it.

If the Steelers pass rush can't get to Levis then they are in big trouble. With Minkah ruled out for Thursday things don't look good in the secondary.

This will be a big loss for Steelers, He is by far our second best defensive
player.Plus he makes most of the calls/ communicates to other defensive players.

So because a rookie (Will Levis) is an all pro because he had 4 touchdown passes?

For one he is a 3rd string QB that the Falcons had no game tape on and I’d say most likely the Falcons based there week of practice on not letting Henry beat them.

Also he has a much better OC then the Steelers do.

Let's pump the brakes a little bit before we induct Will Levis into the Hall of Fame.

I like the face that the Steelers are going up against a rookie QB.

I have no idea who their OC is but I have no doubt that he is better than what we have.

Ok I'll pump those brakes but I refuse to pump the brakes on the " we don't concern ourselves we what other teams do" or "nameless grey faces" approach the team will take facing him. If they don't welcome the young man to the NFL the right way well I just don't think about it

Levis had a very impressive debut.

I would add that the first TD was clear offensive PI and the third he had no pressure and Hopkins was wide open deep.

But still, very impressive. His deep ball is something else.

Mike Vrable's staff isn't stellar but it is an aggressive staff that seems to have a solid design under Tim Kelly.
Kelly as I recall has some Defensive coaching on his resume and to me that gives him knowledge from the other side of the line.
He has a solid mechanic as a QB in Tannehill. You may not like him but if you see him as someone who can run the offense and keep the stupid to min, then he is who he is.

I was never impressed with Willis, but his small school experience might translate to the NFL in the long run.

Will Levis I did like. I kind of sort of thought his ceiling is a lot like Tannehill. There is no 'elite' QB on the Titans roster. Maybe Vrable is looking for the Brady thing, a late round find.

Vrable's a Belichick clone. I've been to Titans training camp and thought, 'am I in New England?' He runs a tight ship.

Deandre Hopkins makes any QB look good, that guy's catch radius is the state of Tennessee..

The teams are about evenly matched, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. We have Pickens who is a Hopkins in the making as long as Canada realizes you can throw the ball to your dangerous weapon - it is legal.

Right now, Pittsburgh is burning so any comparison of the QB play is useless. Will Levis threw 4 TD's (3 to Hopkins by the way) and he's great. Levis also has an OC who knows it is perfectly legal to run Henry into the line with a well design run game and he can do it 22 times for 101 yards. He also is aware that Hopkins can in fact catch and is difficult to cover. I guess Tim Kelly understands that there are two phases of offense and if you balance them, things get easy.

Pittsburgh is going to be missing Minkah and that's a giant hole in the secondary.

I think Vrable is not stupid, and he will exploit the pounding runs of Henry and the acrobatic catches of Hopkins to a win in the Steel City. I just can't see Canada being creative enough to exploit any of Tennessee's Defensive weak points to amount to much and without Minkah, the pass defense will be handicapped.

I don't like the matchup vs the Titans. It's going to be a problem for us, especially with Minkah out.
They run a lot of 2 TE sets, and we just lost our best safety. Their young TE (I forget his name) isn't exactly a pro bowl player, but he's super athletic. He can block in line, he can play FB and he can run routes. He's a far better version of Heyward. Throw Henry in the back field and that's a matchup problem for us. We're going to be in a 3 safety set a lot, but we may not have the personnel to run it effectively.
