So I've never been to a Steelers home game but I will be passing through the city during the holidays. We have a family trip to Ohio and will be passing through Pittsburgh when the Bengals are in town in December. Our daughter is only 5 so we won't attend the game but we would like to check it. Any place you guys recommend that's kid friendly where we can watch the game, get a good local beer and find good Steelers swag? Thanks in advance

You had to add in "kid friendly?" It's gonna be hard to give you a place to watch it where there isn't gonna be some cursing going on, unless we happen to play in a game where we blow out the competition and never have "crap your bed" coaching moments. I know, I know, almost no chance of that happening.

SO, are you planning on staying overnight before the game? I would strongly suggest it. And, if you can, spend the few extra bucks to stay right downtown if you want a taste of the whole "Pgh-Steeler effect." When you awake game day, you will be blown away at the atmosphere of being downtown: over 90% of everyone is wearing Steeler gear, everyone is family, Steeler family. Just going out to breakfast is a hoot that your entire family will remember.

There is nothing quite like it. I've been to other NFL cities game day and they don't hold a candle to Pgh. They think they do, but they don't. They don't possess the solidarity that Pgh does. I'm sure some cities do, but certainly not all of them, no way. It's worth the few extra bucks to experience downtown Pgh on a game day.

Here are a few places to choose from to hang out.

For the Steeler swag on Saturday go to the strip district on Penn Avenue between about 18th and 22nd streets

Go to any Primanti Bro's location. They will have the game on every tv. Everyone will be in Steelers gear. You don't have to sit in the bar part to watch the game. There are tvs all over the dining area.

Good choice. And if their Pittsburgh specific sandwiches aren't your thing, their pizza is delicious.

Don't forget to re-create the Steelers experience around town. You can walk the Kordell Trail in Schenley Park, go to Sheetz and try the Jeff Reed towel dispenser punch out and of course the highlight is taking your nerf gun along the Turnpike and experience the Ernie Holmes helicopter shootout.

I like this suggestion paired with a visit to Primanti’s (also in the Strip).

If you stay downtown, and wake up early enough on Sunday, there are a couple of good breakfast places in the Strip.

Make a stop at Tequilla Cowboy the scene of Todd Haley’s bar fight. An added bonus, it’s literally 200 ft away from the monument to the Immaculate Reception.

LOL. My daughter can handle a little ruckus. She'll probably enjoy that part too. Appreciate the list.

U could always walk around the stadium. Stage AE is free to get into and they do a pregame there with some performances on stage and theres shops outside to buy merch. Once closer to the game you could walk back over the bridge and find some place to watch the game. The downtown Christmas display is nice. A village setup, Xmas tree, ice skating, and gingerbread houses. As for a specific place I couldn't tell u as only time I'm there I go to the games.

. Please tell me they don’t have the Christmas stuff up yet. They should wait at least until Halloween is over.

I've only seen it in late November or December games ive gone to. Never has it been up for October games, but the zoo has been fun to take the kids to in Oct.

Years ago I walked into a Sears store at a mall from a side entrance in mid July and it was full blown decorated for Christmas and a bunch of people were standing there

The look on my face must of said it all

One of the employees said not too panic that it was just a mock up for planning and they were taking it down when they were done
