    That's ridiculous

QB's are valuable but not that valuable, especially unproven ones. Jesus

For the sake of discussion, why should there be a 5 year rule? 99.9% of us get to choose who we work for. We can leave at anytime and go elsewhere. Rookies don't have that luxury. If a guy is willing to risk tens of millions by staying in school, shouldn't that be his right?

To be honest, I'm kind of torn on the idea. You just seemed very certain in your stance so was curious about the reasoning

I'm not torn you give me a huge contract/signing bonus, I'll give you the best damn 5 years of my life. Especially when I get to play a game for half the year? Rest of the time I just do some workouts in the offseason?

    Hell yeah!!

Why have a draft at all then? Right?

Drafting a player should give the team rights and they should have return on their investment. I have no issue with kids staying in school. More power to them. But you play for who drafted you. Otherwise, the draft is almost pointless. After 5 years is your most likely time to get the big contract. And if the team that drafted you wants to give you that contract in say, the 4th year, they can. But if you hold out for an early contract, they still get those years.Or you can go elsewhere after the 5th year. Highest bidder.

That's why I advocate for first contract players to get paid on a set scale. And those players don't count against the cap. Load that scale up with productivity. If they play a lot, or start, and perform great, they get even more money. And teams don't have to worry about those bonuses counting against them.

And they also can leave and work anywhere they choose. It just won't be in the NFL. ;)

Aside from not counting against the salary cap, a lot of this is already in place. Rookie contract values have been determined by draft position since the 2011 CBA. All are four-year contracts (except first-round picks, who of course have the fifth-year option) with pre-determined values based on when the player is selected.

Performance incentives drive the option year value, with first-rounders making two pro bowls in their first three years qualifying for the franchise tender at their position for the fifth year. A single pro bowl nets the transition tender. And all players offered the option year have their fourth and five year salaries guaranteed.

For those drafted after the first round the CBA has the Proven Performance Escalator. Players can achieve different tiers of pay bonus depending on things like snap count percentage and pro bowl selection.

It wouldn’t matter if they tanked. This staff is not set up to nurture a number one or a mister irrelevant.

had an eagles fan at the job site today (young kid) say “hey! Your team is so stupid to not have taken Jalen”! I said son he wouldn’t have made it here. He looked like garbage until he got the right staff. That wouldn’t have happened here.

he then proceeded to say Pickett was a waste we could’ve had purdy yadda yadda yadda. Yep so could’ve the others and all the others could’ve had Brady. But without the circumstances as they were who knows. Both chances into it and both had/have the proper handlers. I doubt it would’ve or would turned up roses under this regime.

Depends on the university. Rather, depends on the boosters. Tennessee is such an example; Jimmy Haslam being among one of the Vols biggest supporters.

Here is an article detailing how much this QB will make in NIL Money.

The 2022 Texas A&M Class is considered by many to be the greatest recruiting class of all time. However, there is much controversy surrounding the amount of NIL Money given by the Aggies to these High School Recruits. It was reported that the Aggies paid up to $30 Million for its 2022 class but that isn't the craziest part.

A good amount of those recruits ended up fleeing after the 2022 Season! This does prove one thing about NIL. Money doesn't buy happiness.

Don't forget updates to the 2020 CBA. First Round picks can increase their alloted payment with various awards; Pro Bowls and All Pros namely.

Who has tanking ever worked for? NFL-wise? Colts put on a 'Suck for Luck' campaign. I don't remember the Chiefs tanking for Mahomes or the Eagles tanking for Hurts. Yet both of those QBs played in the SB last season. Tanking only hurts your franchise. It never helps.

His attitude is crappy. I wish him nothing but failure in his NFL career. I appreciate players who are humble and grateful for the opportunity to play in the NFL. I never cared for Eli Manning for pulling the crap he did with daddy’s support.

I agree to a point. I don't wish failure on Him, but hate the attitude. All I can say is Burrow has show that if You really are good You can do it. He took a team that many told Him not to go, and 1st year he played all year took them to a SB. A team that hadn't won a playoff game in 30 years. He believed in himself.

If Arch is getting 10 million, then whoever is paying him is stupid because he's 3rd string, some sites post valuations on players I'm not sure they actually get that much.

Let me clarify…IF it is true. I don’t know that it’s true but based on some other comments he’s made about staying in school to avoid going to a team he doesn’t like I wouldn’t doubt it. Maybe that seems harsh but I literally loathe individuals with that kind of narcissistic, entitled attitude.

And this may not be true and if not, I’ll take back what I say. But I literally can’t stand this type of pompous attitude. Maybe I need help, but I enjoy watching prideful and self-entitled individuals fail miserably and get humiliated.

I enjoy watching them learn a lesson Myself, but not a lifetime failure.
It's like injuries. I don't mind knocking a guy out of the game with an injury, but I don't want to see a season ending one.

I like a good redemption story and if someone is willing to see the error of their ways, admit that they’ve been arrogant and prideful and develop a little humility, I’d support them 100%. But I just can’t help rooting against them if they think they’re heaven’s gift to humanity.

    My mistake!!

    Here is the link!

Thought Arch would be getting that much. LeBrons son is though; $12.6 Million to be exact. This all said, I agree about Arch not starting. I like Quinn Ewers but the fact that Manning couldn't beat him out is a bit cornering though nothing to panic about just yet.

If he is not the starter for the Longhorns come 2024, then is where I will have major concern.

I knew contracts were based on draft position. I didn't realize they had escalating scales. That's good. Make it a bit better and take them off the cap. ;)

The awards you're referring to are the option year salary calculations I mentioned above. The changes made with 2020's CBA with respect to this were basically to 1) make the fourth and fifth year salaries guaranteed upon the club choosing to exercise the player's option (previously fifth year only); and 2) eliminate the separate calculations on fifth year options between players drafted inside the first 10 picks and those taken 11-32.
