This is the culmination of a rudderless ship o begin with. Tomlin provides so little leadership, of course the team had to have one of these meetings. The team is a careening, spinning top, without a real plan. It's just slopped together, no real foresight or vision.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers spent the week regrouping and clearing the air as they look to bounce back against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.

Inside the facility, the team held a meeting where players were able to let out their feelings about their current situation.

It got the the point of players not even given their best effort, because it's in an environment of non-accountability from the top down. Tomlin takes no accountability and nor does anyone else. That is the corporate culture that's been set. Just listen to Tomlin's presser the Monday after that colossal FAIL in Houston. The "big changes" he promised were to wear pads on Wednesday's practice. Yea, that ought to fix everything, let's just ignore that an iceberg has ripped open a 12' square hole in the bough, we'll rearrange the deck chairs.

There is honestly to much to unwrap, saying not giving the best effort may be correct, they are pros and I think most think and want to perform at their best, but as you say the schemes and efforts from the top bring out the human frustrations, which ultimately lead to a total collapse.

What does it say if this is the best effort they can give?

Teams often have these players only meetings.

I would like to know if it is because they feel Canadas offense is bad but want to make sure they keep that in house (which is the right thing to do) or if they truly believe the coaching is above the line and just need to execute.

Can’t imagine its the later but going out and giving their all regardless of coaching is the right and only path to take. Let the rest take care of itself. Canada will be gone after this year. I don’t know what is left on Austins contract and we will see if they extend Tomlin.

Good. Glad the players are taking responsibility for their crappy play.

Now…why don’t the coaches have a clear the air meeting to take responsibility for their unbelievably pathetic and abysmal coaching!

There's nothing uncommon about this, especially after the type of showing the team had Sunday.

Not seeing the need to milk more Tomlin-hate/melodrama out of it.

It feels like they have one of these every year now. Why? Hmmm what’s the common denominator?

It is uncommon when they did the exact same thing last year as well. I know everyone dislikes the offense right now but it’s on both sides of the ball. They are wasting a ton of talent on this team right now. The amount of players underperforming right now says alot about Tomlin. A good coach puts his players in position to succeed. That is not happening. We have bad bad schemes and philosophies on both sides of the ball. The players are either not be coached up within the schemes properly or were asking to much if certain players within specific schemes. That is glaring obvious with the Center and what they are asking if him on outside zone blocks. But we still keep on trying to do it. That is just one example.

it’s just getting very old with Tomlin. I honestly anticipated this with the offense but honestly slowly seeing the demise of our defense over the years with the hood and promise we just need to add one more player and then we will be able to play Steeler defense. We get teased sometimes with a big game from Watt or Minkah but those are often via sacks and turnovers which is impossible to maintain over the course of a whole season.

I just miss the consistent dominance of the Cowher/Lebeau Defenses that truly carried on the tradition of what we came to expect. We had that to a certain degree at the beginning of Tomlins tenure through the first decade while Lebeau was still here and we had transcending talent but that has seemed to dissipate each passing year the more Tomlin has taken over the defense.

Honestly I would have hope for this team if the defense was fundamentally sound and showed hope of dominance because with a bad offense it us perceived the fix will be easier because we just need to replace the OC and the OL coaches. But with the defense essentially always having represented the identity of the franchise and it ultimately being built and controlled by Tomlin, my fear is this will never get fixed without replacing Tomlin and I just don’t see Tooney making that move.

I also believe both Rooney and Tomlin believe it us a personnel problem in defense and not a scheme problem. Until they humble themselves and truly recognize the issue it will never get fixed.

I’ll take take the newly acquired future HOF DB that’s lost a step or 2 to quit running his mouth for 150$ Alex.

Player only meetings are usually exercises in useless 'rah-rah' rhetoric. We shall see.

The air stinks. Unless pretty much every person in the room did some soul searching over their own part in Sunday’s debacle it won’t matter. That was the definition of a “team loss.”

    Coaches. Players. They all failed.

The players are restless, the fans are restless. We have a problem.
