Rooney has two choices. Demand that Tomlin replaces both coordinators and takes a step back from micromanaging the defense or get rid of Tomlin

I hate the way the team is constructed now. We have completely sold out to rushing the passer and creating splash plays in defense. If you play any team that is sound fundamentally and can block adequately they decimate our defense. It’s like a slow death by a thousand cuts just watching teams match down the field slowly and precisely and then late in the game they hit big chunk plays on us after we lost our will.

Chris Boke said what I have been saying all along. We do not stress stopping the run. It’s all about haveing smallish gap penetrating defensive lineman. You know how you beat them. You run the ball and short quick passes. We’re doubly bad because we play so far off on the wr’s because are defensive backs are old and slow.

it is a recipe for disaster. We’re not going to get a good defensive coordinator because Gomlins ego and micromanagement will not allow that to happen.

The offense woes are well documented. We need a new OC and probably a new QB at this point. Now your even seeing our good players play bad on both sides of the ball because they are pressing and there is no accountability.

it is quite clear that Cowhers teams in the beginning and Ben covered a lot of warts with Tomlin. I still think he is highly respected around the league and can be a good coach in the right situation if hood coordinators were in place and a good QB but his ego won’t allow that to happen.

I don’t know ho you fix this. Could we trade Tomlin at the end of the year for two first founders maybe to AZ and while we’re at it probably trade Watt and Heyward not cause I want to but because it’s only fair to them to allow them to go elsewhere and have a legit chance at winning and not go through a rebuild. With the capital with all of these trades I’m sure we would get a haul enabling us to be set to rebuild foundational wise moving forward.

I would hate to see Watt go but I hate for a player if that caliber to never have a chance at a SB either. Moving forward if Rooney doesn’t impart change we already know Tomlin won’t evident by his press conference today and quite frankly his actions over the last few years. I just hate how it is the same issues every year and nothing ever changes. I also hate not just the offense but the defense is absolutely dreadful to watch with everything revolving around wether we can put pressure on the QB or not.

I know what most of the fans want but I think the Steeler organization has a real long leash with Tomlin. I can't see them firing him but I could see them coming to some sort of agreement so everything looks peachy keen at end of season. Right now I think the FO is in a wait and see mode. ?

If Khan makes the move, there is a young DC that fits the mold for the Tennessee Titans.

Well, I agree that we should probably be looing at getting rid of Tomlin. I think he is one of the most overrated human beings in the entirety of the NFL. Now, if we really want to keep him we can tell him that we will pay him to stay and be who he is (high end players coach) but he gets little say in the coordinators that we hire and the direction we are going with the "macro" of our football team. He likely declines this as he would feel his record in the league should afford him more control (or that he could get more control elsewhere).

While I do believe that there is a huge premium on turnovers and splash plays, we are just poorly coached on defense. Its not that we don't play the right style or have talent on that side of the ball, we just don't prepare. The whole world knew that the Texans were going to try to run it and sprinkle in a lot of quick passes and screens to keep the rush on its heels and we weren't ready for it. It was almost like we just decided to line up and see how it goes. We've felt like a poorly coached and poorly prepared team for a long time, not having Ben around to bail the coaching staff out is starting to expose that (it is also why we underperformed in the playoffs over the past decade, where matchup preparation is at a premium).

Tomlin's contract is up at end of year, so he is likely untradeable. And we definitely should consider cutting Heyward for money for as much as I love him (or have him take a pay cut to stay). The only downfall is that he is the only on field leadership we have. We NEED to target on-field leaders with our next batch of free agents. The team lacks the identity it has had since the early 2000's. We absolutely do not trade Watt for any reason unless we are content with being a 3 win team for a number of years. He is the face of the franchise and we don't owe him Super Bowl runs. His brother never got to play for one either and he is doing OK. We need him around and he wants to be here. Absolutely no reason to do that.

Bowen would be a solid hire. We should look to find a young creative mind to pair with him as OC. There is a new style of offense driving the league. It is much more creative than yesteryear. Having someone on the cutting edge would be a nice change of pace.

I agree and would prefer him over Bowen of Tennessee. It's just that until proven otherwise, they'll lean defense for HC.
