Are Matt Canadas schemes terrible because he is or is Kenny Pickett not smart enough to pick up more complicated schemes? It’s a fair question as you watch the tape and see how many receivers he misses being open, leaving clean pockets and etc. Im starting to think Pickett is not that smart and his talent alone won’t get it done in the NFL. Both can be true though. You decide.

This offense isnt on KFP, we heard that the reason Ben was so bad was because Canada had to account for his lack of mobility and Ben no longer had a good enough arm . Well fast forward 2 more years, we have a mobile Qb with a better than avg arm and we are still seeing the same BS. Canada has to go, his offense just flat our doesn not work at the professional level....its that simple!!

Will see but I don't believe Tomlin. The Substandard is the Standard.

Pickett is a problem but the offense will always be awful with Canada as OC,no matter who is the QB...Remember in 2021 in the last year of Ben when the offense was much better in the fourth quarter when Ben was more in no huddle,so it was more him who was calling the play. The steelers had scored almost half of their points in the fourth quarter that year

Canada had way too many chance and excuses,if it would been up to me he would been fired after week 3 last year

I don't want another Danny dimes situation.... just being a mediocre qb. I feel this is similar where this position gets zero help for success.

The routes are terrible. Lack of creativity. Can't convince me our receivers are bad.

Not going out on a limb or anything, but when we finally have had enough and they get the balls to fire this guy, he will NEVER get another job in the NFL.... Tomlin coaching tree is like a twig that never grows cause a dog keeps pissing on it

You left out the part about our mobile young quarterback can’t read a zone defense

The announcers in yesterday's game said it was as if the Texans knew which route was coming by the Steelers receiver (Pickens). But Tomlin did not care about that since Canada still has a job

Pretty sure that’s from last season. There’s a breakdown of 3 of his games this season and nothing has changed

Why not include Austin in your poll. Yes, the offense is awful, but may lack talent. The defense is loaded, yet gives up big runs and big plays almost routinely, and save their hide with big plays of their own. When those big plays don't happen (like yesterday), we are screwed.

And Cam doesn't just solve the run defense because it has not been good for years. Either go 4-3 or get the right personnel with a stud NT for the 3-4. The in between blows!!

    Don’t have the personnel for a 4-3.

I know but Tomlin was a fan of the 4-3 and when he came here there was much speculation he was going to make the switch. We never replaced Casey so our run D has sucked really ever since with some flashes here and there. If we want to run the 3-4 then you need a stud in the middl that eats up blockers that allows for your LB's to penetrate and make tackles. Maybe baby Snack can fulfill that role but now that we have more glaring weaknesses we will have to wait to address that.

The 3-4 has always had problems against the outside zone. Even when Hampton was here. There are advantages and disadvantages to every defensive scheme. It’s no different than having a cb travel with one receiver. There are advantages and disadvantages. Switching to a 4-3 would require tearing it all down and starting from scratch. Then what do we do with Watt and Highsmith etc?

My money is the change Tomlin is talking about is to make Harris and Warren "co-starters" at RB.

The only hope I can draw from that is Hurts couldnt read the field either and now he plays lights out. So hopefully Kenny doesnt miss too much time and can get back out there and learn this stuff.

Here's what bothers me: that video is 4 months old, that means the Steelers coaches/GM/owner *must* have observed the same things assuming they are not 100% useless (which is possible).

Lets assume the Steelers org are not completely useless, then they must have tried to help Pickett by practicing, and other things NFL teams do to improve their play.

How is it possible that Pickett is worst (at best same) than last year? Does he truly suck so bad? Does the Steeler org not practice anything that helps Pickett?

Yeah, there's a lot of examples of QBs stinking things up then developing, Aikman-style. Hell, something's clearly happened to Zach Wilson.

Agreed about the comment about Ben. It was the chargers game, when we were down a gazillion points going into the 4th quarter and Ben went no huddle and with the chargers playing prevent being up a few touchdowns, we scored 28 points in the 4th. That was the lone bright spot in Canada's tenure here and the only game in Canada's tenure that the team has scored over 30 points in a game and didn't have anything to do with his playcalls.Just amazes me some here are only bagging on Kenny, where 70 to 80% of his drop backs are about 2 to 2.5 secs before the pocket collapses and has to go to his checkdown a hell of a lot. The kid had some last minute drives for wins last year, that almost landed the team a playoff spot and that's an intangible that can't be taught. You either have it or not, that's why I'm not ready to give up on him, until we see what he can really do with a competent OC and OL.
