Not too much of an analysis today sadly fellow brothers and sisters as my internet has been and currently is on the fritz. That said, I will leave all of you with a tweet I had found just recently.

    Now remember, context is key. In comparison to Christian Gonzalez, Joey Porter is not a starter. Furthermore, Joey Porter has only seen limited action; further explained via a tweet here;

In addition to the low snap count, part of the reason is that the side that Porter Jr. predominately played on at Penn State is currently being manned by Patrick Peterson... not Levi Wallace. That said though, Porter Jr. is getting more and more acclimated with each passing week. The NFL has not fully slowed down for him (it will be a while yet) but he is getting more comfortable which can help accelerate the process. Given how often Levi Wallace has been targeted and picked apart by opposing WRs (expect this to continue in Houston) one has to wonder; how much longer will both Mike Tomlin and Teryl Austin keep Joey Porter Jr. on the sidelines. Again, his snap count did increase against Las Vegas but that was due to an injury situation; not one of increased trust from the coaches.

For me personally, if the Steelers want to get Joey Porter Jr more and more on the field, they will have to do it after the bye week. There is another nasty gauntlet of Wide Receivers the Steelers face; Baltimore (Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews), Los Angeles and Jacksonville (Evan Engram and Calvin Ridley) ... health permitting of course. If there is ever an oppurtunity for Mike Tomlin to deploy his best four in the secondary, Week 7 would be the ideal spot as there is no better way to introduce a Steelers Rookie quite like Steelers vs. Ravens. George Pickens got himself quite acquainted with Marlon Humphrey in 2022.

..... Time for Joey Porter Jr. to get himself known against Zay Flowers.

    Once again members of TheSteelersFans....

    Let him cook!

    This deserves a massive bump.

    How come?!

If not, this season is lost. That said, it is not just putting in Joey Porter Jr for more playing time. Time for change for Offensive Play Calling.

Peterson has stated when he was brought in, that he expected to play a more diverse role inside and rotational, so I don't know why this is even a thing. Peterson thought he was coming in to be a moving piece vice the starting LCB spot so why is that even an issue. Use the kid let him get his lumps in and have Pat Pete help him with what he's seeing.

    Preach brotha preach!!

Don't understand the concept of bringing him along at a snails pace. So what if Levi and P2 have their feelings hurt?! Too damn bad.

    Play better!! Simple as that.

I think a key reason that JP Jr isn’t playing much is that he excels in man coverage, but we seem to be playing a lot more zone than we’d optimally play, likely because our other DBs aren’t so good at man. I’m not sure where JP Jr stands in his development of zone instincts at this point in his young career.

    Fair enough.

That said, this repeated ass kicking of Levi Wallace has run its course. I understand the concern of allowing JPJ into Zone Coverage but much like Broderick Jones Jr., time to take the training wheels off. Allow him to take his lumps and let him learn.

Only way he can do so.

Let JPJ start!!! Getting Peterson off the field will instantly improve this defense even if JPJ struggles!!!!!

shake it up. but they won't. jones didn't play well. cole is bad. seumalo just jogs around while the play is going on in front of him. the DB's are a mixed bag of players with different skillsets. the LB'ers are out of position at different times. whole sections of the field are left wide open. our QB still misses open players and runs into pressure. players are running into each other. the line is allowing players to run free and run right past them. the whole concept on both sides of the ball are out of sync with what the other team is doing. needless to say it's not one player or one unit that is a mess but a total jugfug at different times all over the field. we don't have competent enough coaches or smart enough players to fix it. we just have players that don't mesh with schemes and schemes that don't mesh with players and a lack of smarts to make it work together. by players and coaches.

you play elijeh riley's, jpj's, desmond kings, mark robinsons, mt. washingtons, broderick jones', andersons, ccoks and a few others and see where it goes. as we know, it won't happen. so wish in one hand and **** in the other and see which one fills up first.

Pat Peterson has been brutal. How can you help if you can't see? I know he was brought here to help young guys then make him a coach. As a player he is done!

Put Porter Jr in there as suggested. Issue is that Wallace is on the other side. He has regressed to the point of pulling him off the starting line. But then who? WHO?

Letting Sutton go for what he got from the Lions was just stupid.

“No, not yet,” Austin said when asked about the possibility of Porter playing more snaps in Week 5. “He’s working hard. I like the way he’s working, he’s making strides.

“Is he ready for full time right now? I’m not sure I can say I really feel great about that.”

That means the Steelers will likely keep veterans Patrick Peterson and Levi Wallace as their starting cornerbacks against the Baltimore Ravens on October 8.

Agreed. Play him and undoubtably he is going to get burned and have some PI moments, but at this stage it really is not going to be any worse, and actually potentially get better with each game. Hindsight will get us nowhere and Omar used the CAP to plug what he could, but not finding a way to resign Sutton vs. signing Patrick is a big let down.

Peterson, $10 million, Wallace, $1.75 million and they let Akhello Witherspoon sign with the Rams at the vet minimum of $1.08 million and he is easily outplaying both. A hindsight is 20/20 situation I know, but signing Peterson and letting Witherspoon bail and thinking they were better for it looks like a disaster right now. Seumalo has been disappointing. Cole would be a decent back-op. Chucks is an overpriced stink sandwich. Jones hasn't developed as quickly as we had hoped. Holcombe and Roberts have been meh. Nate Herbig is alright for what he is. Mith is banged up and has been somewhat ineffective. As bad as the offense has been, I'm really more concerned about the defense. Other than the occasional splash play, both pass and run defenses have been dreadful.

Sorry, AQL, didn't mean to hijack your thread but I had to vent. How much worse could this team be letting JBJ, Nate Herbig, Broderick Jones et.al. play as much as possible?

I guess you didn't watch Witherspoon play with the Steelers last season, he's just as bad as Wallace and Peterson.

I did and he wasn't any better than Peterson but was still better than Wallace. I'm not saying he is Darrelle Reavis. My point was they could have retained Witherspoon and passed on signing Peterson and had similar results.

This is just an example of my frustration with this team right now. All these free agents they signed and none of them have made a tangible impact. I wasn't expecting All Pro performances from any of them. Just solid veteran contributions. The only two I've seen decent play from when they've been on the field are Roberts and Golden. Not sure what it is. Maybe some of the troubles are coaching/scheme.

Cornerback talent in today's game is like pitching in the MLB, it's hard to have too much.

He made a great special teams tackle in the Houston game I believe on kickoff coverage.
