I generally do wear rose colored glasses. However, if they can't beat Cincy at home this weekend, then they don't deserve it. Injuries, bad luck, etc.- they've been given so many opportunities to take care of business, that if they can't do it now, they don't deserve it.

I can think of a bunch of other Steelers teams that faltered early or had slumps & then made playoff runs with strong finishes. Some teams were successful in doing that, some were not - 1976, 1984, 1989, 2000, 2005, 2006, even 2009 all come to mind. But if this team can't do it, with 2 games at home and needing no help from other teams to make it- well then, this 40 year fan's glasses are off.

And, I am lacking confidence about this week's game more and more with each passing day.

Prove me wrong, black and gold.

They deserve to go to the playoffs if they win their next 2 games.

    I`m with ya, Jimmy!!!
    It`s all about HEART!!!
I`m glad the O.P. started this thread, because, after the loss, I said the same thing, to another die-hard Steeler fan...
"The way we`ve played this year, we don`t DESERVE to be in the playoffs"...
    I also told him,
"If you say that to a fan of any other team, I will have to kill you!!!"...
As is, no, I don`t think we DESERVE to be in the playoffs...
But As long as we get there, I will continue to have blind faith that we can stop doing stupid things(Turnovers, mostly), that cost us a chance to win...
And the talent on this team can shine thru, and get the job done!!!
Hell yes, that`s looking at it thru Black-n-Gold colored glasses...
But that is what I do, hope for the best, from my team, that is loaded with talent, and usually only has to overcome it`s own mistakes to win a game...
    Coaching, execution, ball bounces, whatever...
I DO believe that we can beat any team in the league, when we don`t beat ourselves!!!:herewego!:

Any team that makes the playoffs deserves it no matter how they get there.

It isn't as I don't think they deserve it, but-

let me make my point, as I am fond of doing, from a historical perspective.

Steelers history is marked by seasons in which the team struggled early but then made a desperate and brave drive to the playoffs late in the season.

The 2005, 1976, and 1989 teams are epic seasons in that vein. Some seasons, the team made the rush, but fell short because they did not get the help needed from others (2000 and 2009). In any event, you had to salute those teams for fighting hard right to the end, their bad play earlier in the year not withstanding.

But there have not been many years in which the Steelers were given such golden opportunities to make the playoffs and fail to come through, like the 2012 season. You have a very shallow AFC to begin with, a collapsing Ravens team, and the perennially .500 Bengals who've not made repeat trips to the playoffs in 23 years. You also have a clear route to the playoffs- win two games at home in December and you are in, regardless of what happens. (Lest we forget, go look at what had to happen for the 1989 team to make it- they were at 4-6 with 6 games to go, there were only 5 playoff teams then-and the team went into the final week of the season in last place in their division!) If they don't make it now, to me this team disrespects their past.

This season, and now this game, are just leaving me with this sick and apprehensive feeling right now. Sunday is the last chance. Like I said, please prove me wrong.

really? even when a team wins their division with a 7-9 record? you really think they deserve to go while a team stays home with 10 wins.. i dont

In the current system I guess they deserve to be there, but I think the system is wrong. Do away with the divisions and just take the top records from each conference for the playoffs. Rivalries will still exist from past histories (i.e. we will always hate the Ravens, Cowboys, Raiders, etc). Let the records speak for themselves.

So are you saying that the 12 teams with the best records should make the playoffs regardless of divison? What if 8 of the best records belonged to teams from one conference? Should they all make the playoffs?

    Why not?
The teams that win the most games should be there in the end, right?
Would save the "embarassment, of teams with an 8-8 record, or worse, making the playoffs...
That happened last year, even though I forget the teams, and I do believe, a team with a losing record (7-9) maybe Seattle, got in 2 years ago, thanx to the weaknss of the didvision, or coonference.
I see no problem with letting the best records get in the playoffs...
If it screws up the Conference/divisional thing, create a new rule, whereby the 2 teams in the same conference, with the lowest records, (but still better than the lowest 2 in the other conference,) have an extra game, to determine who should go on...
O.K,.... Now I see the problem...
They would play, while the rest of their conference playoff teams would get to rest...and wait to see who the winner would be..
Oh wait.. I guess I really don`t see the problem...
It could be set up sort of like a "bye week"...
If there are teams that become elgible under this rule, the ones with the better records play each other, and get a week to heal, while the 2 teams with better records, that normally wouldn`t have gotten them into the playoffs, play each other...
It made sense when I thought of it, but now it`s getting confusing... ?
I just have a problem with seeing teams that have won more games, than some of the playoff teams, sitting at home, watching a team with a worse record than theirs, get in the playoffs...
So far, it hasn`t happened to us... but it has to other teams... And I would be pissed, if I was a fan of theirs..
Not sure how to fix, tho?

So you might as well do away with divisions and conferences. What is the use if you're just going to go with the best records?

For the first time in my life, I am embarrassed to wear my Steelers jersey out in public. They don't deserve to make the playoffs, but if they do, I'll still be cheering them on.
The bottom line for this year's Steelers is poor coaching, starting with Tomlin. Our boys (men) are not conditioned, have little heart, and are not prepared to play.

if you are imbarassed to wear a steelers jersey you don't deserve to wear it , you don't wear a jersey for their record or their players , you wear the jersey because they are suppose to be your color in the bad and good years for life

You know, I'm usually against people calling out other people regarding their dedication to a team, but in this case, I kinda have to agree with what freakfontana said. I don't care how the Steelers are doing, I'm still going to be proudly wearing my Steelers Jerseys and shirts with pride. I'll readily admit to anyone who says anything that they're stinking up the joint, but I'll still be glad to wear the black and gold anytime.

Didn't read every single post on this thread basically because I'm too lazy but why don't we deserve to go to the playoffs if we win the next two? Winning the next two should tell us that they can win at absolute crunch time as one loss and they are done. By the way, we all know how the last two Super Bowl champions got in, right? Two years ago, the Packers needed a Giants loss on the final day to get in and were flat out LUCKY that the Giants at home against the Eagles blew a 28 point second half lead and punted the ball to D. Jackson of the Eagles with no time on the clock in the 4th and he took it to the house. Game over, Packers your're in, Giants your're out and they beat us in the SB. All the punter had to do is punt it out of bounds! Then last year, the Giants needed to win their last game of the year with a little bit of help and they did, finished 9-7, barely winning the division based upon tiebreakers, killed ATL at home then went TO the Packers and TO the Niners and beat them and beat NE in the SB. We did it in 2005! Do we deserve it, hell yes we do (AS LONG AS THEY WIN THESE NEXT TWO GAMES), because we have seen what can happen in very recent history! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! See you Sunday!

I think the Steelers if they make it to the playoffs have a very good chance to make a run to the Superbowl. After all we play pretty well against good teams. Now if their were some sub 500 teams in the playoffs, then I'd be worried! That's why I'm not worried about this week but am more concerned next week when they play the Browns.

If their record earns them a spot in the dance, then they deserve it.

    The end.
