I don’t like Canada either and he needs to go, but who hired him? Who is sty=aying with him? Our Defensive coordinator isn’t exactly lighting the field on fire either. What is the common denominator here? Tomlin. I love Tomlin but he has been terrible at getting good coordinators. I don’t know why? He is highly intelligent and he is a football junkie.

I always though the issue was Ben didn’t get along with the Offensive Coordinators so it created issues that bled over to performance, etc. On Defense I just don’t feel like we play up to our pedigree. I feel like we have always been good at putting pressure on the QB under Tomlin but for some reason we seem to struggle every year in coverage and in defending the run. The national pundits love to say how we have an elite defense but what are they going off of exactly? It has been a while since this defense has actually been elite.

I don’t know why we can’t get top level coordinators. Is it Ego related? Does Tomlin not want them because they could threaten his control or power? Do we struggle to attract top level Coordinators because perhaps they don’t want to work under Tomlin or they don’t see it as a place where they can develop and grow? From the outside looking in it appears Tomlin has a little bit of the micromanagement aspect to him which I would think impact some of things I mentioned above.

I’m not sure what the answer is but if we move on from Canada the Rooneys have to seriously look at that area of Tomlin to see why we aren’t getting top level coordinators or why we aren’t developing top level coordinators. You can have all the best drafts and offseason moves but if you don’t have innovative game plans and solid coaches at the coordinator level I don’t know how you can win. Outside of the Head Coach and the QB the OC and DC are the most important positions on the team.

When they speak of "coaching trees", Tomlin doesn't even have a branch. Nothing more needs to be said.

Funny I just heard that the 1st 3 plays by the Steelers were exactly the same 1st 3 plays run by the 49ers. Do you think Kyle was trying to copy what Matt was doing out there?

Yep, 2nd play of both opening drives featured the Jet Sweep. Canada and Shanahan two peas in a pod. :)

For the jet sweep, Kyle used a FB to block the edge, the line moves play side, the RB fakes and takes out backside edge and the inline TE blocks the second level. With Canada the line goes straightup, a fake to Najee who has no one to block backside, and there is no one playside to block second level. They may be called the same play but they were different in execution

Agree with the OP, Tomlin, the front office and the ownership are responsible for running the team and it has been clear from the start that Canada wasn’t up to the job. He should have been replaced at the end of last season, and I can’t understand why he wasn’t.

49ers a badass team right now in September. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd rather the Steelers be peaking in December and January.

I never blame him. It's on the people who are actually on the field to execute the plays.

Except, 9ers plays were highly more coordinated and better executed, better organised. Oh yes, that stuff matters.

Problem with Canada is that he’s so damn predictable. Your fastest player in motion. It’s a sure bet that it will be a jet sweep

Aren’t 1st drives scripted ahead of time?

So, unless there is some other spygate situation going on, then we actually *might have a bigger problem on our hands than the play calling aspect of Canaduh.

We could have a preparation, a motivation, or a personnel problem illustrating that we are FAR from competing with the best in the league. Or all three combined.

We've won 3 playoff games in the last dozen years with standout talent on offense.. Never reloaded an aging defense through free agency. So many missed defensive draft pics over that span...Tomlin defines underachiever..Ben saved their asses so many times with late game no huddle street ball...Personally I'm ready for a change. Tired of the mediocrity..Feel like it's 1991 all over again ..Cower won immediately with talent that was already on the roster, I'm ready to take that chance again..Sometimes the message gets old and things get too comfortable. Tomlin absolutely should have fired Canada in the off-season. It’s unconscionable that he retained him given his abysmal job performance his first two seasons. If anything has been proven over Tomlin’s decade and a half as the Steelers’ head coach, it’s that he NEEDS strong coordinators to be successful. At this point, he’s got some of the worst in the league!
