Saw this mentioned and I agree 100%. Use Austin like this. My goodness.

I have talked about this very thing when referencing some of what Canada could do to help the offense. That's all Canada would have to do to insure he gets a clean release. It's something as simple as using motion to help a small, quick player be able to release without a defender latching onto him at the line of scrimmage.

It would help anyone in the slot. It doesn't just work for Austin. It works for everyone.

I thought motion was Canadas “thing” as well?

Yep, that's all we heard about. Yet he doesn't use it to give his players an advantage within his play design.

Using the motion with the slot will still help determine coverage. It's not a simple answer as defenses do a great job disguising coverages, but it does accomplish multiple things that can help the offense if used correctly.

I love the idea…. Mentioned it to my son, actually. But do we have any level of confidence that Canada will do this?

He likes using motion, but he doesn't do it effectively. The poor play design was clearly part of the problem Sunday, as it has been since Canada took over the offense.

AQL mentioned about the OL, specifically Seumalo not being used in pulling, the plays themselves are generic to this type of offense, the proper and effective design is the difference. I repeat whet one analyst said, nearly anyone can make and call a specific play, few can create and substitute effectively a gameplan.

    ... @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace...

Love ya brother but do you honestly believe Canada is capable of scheming this up?! I hate to sound like a broken record player but he employs the exact same BS; game in and out... year in and out. The suggestion you mentioned is not an issue and far from it; same goes for it even being a problem.

The issue stems from the common denomination within the comical Offense; offensively offensive at that. Until we can get that issue fixed somehow... expect more of the same. If anything, Alex Kozora has an excellent breakdown just recently released...

Hopefully they stop the jet sweeps with CA3! Also we are still diing the same 5 yd passes! Back in 2021 everyone blamed Ben and his weak arm, yet we are still doing the same thing.

Correct. He uses motion, but it looks like it is generally used by him to simply help identify zone or man coverage. He brings someone across the formation or they motion in one direction and return to the original spot, they stop, and then they run the play. He rarely seems to use it to run the receiver with a purpose like motion with speed to run away from the coverage in man or to create a natural rub or pick off of that clean release with another receiver or TE. The route trees are very simple and need to be more creative.

What we don't know is if the receivers are able to read coverages and run the routes based on coverage. They are mostly pretty young, as is Pickett. So there is always a chance for miscommunication or a misread. If everyone isn't on the same page, it looks very ugly. Making Pickett look terrible, and making Canada look like he's incompetent. It's just really impossible for us to know everything that is going on. That's why we really do need more time to see it unfold.

Having great players to defeat a man-to-man situation is great, but creating schemes to help people get open is how elite offenses work because they work more consistently across the entire offense. It's not realistic to think that you are going to have 4 or 5 receivers available every game that are capable of consistently defeating defenses with great route running. Passing concepts that work against man coverage and zone coverage need to be more fully developed IMO.

At the same time, Pickett needs to be able to see and understand coverages and how to defeat them. The OC and the QB need to be in sync and hopefully they tailor a game plan using plays that Pickett executes well while he figures it all out and gets experience seeing all the things defenses are throwing at him. He also needs to make the simple plays and the gimme stuff. I'm going to give the kid a little time. He has only started 13 games in his career and has much more to learn.

It is Canada's job to make him comfortable and give him things that play to his strengths while he continues the gauntlet that all inexperienced quarterbacks go through. Can he? We will see.

Did You see the people open on some of the plays in the game. I gave up on Alex when He showed a person being open a couple years ago....after the ball was released. You can not be called open after the ball is thrown. LoL...LoL. He's like everyone...he had an agenda...at the time He was trying to say it was Ben , and not Canada fault.....now the same Guy is now blaming Canada. LoL.

Kenny gets the biggest slice of the blame pie for the last game but Canada is the baker and in a world of gourmet desserts, he's a Hostess fruit pie.

Yes, that is what we were told, you are correct, so what happened to those allegations? Were they "Tomlined" as well? Is Mike not comfortable with allowing players to go into motion is any kind of real way? Does he have some kind of irrational problem with it, just like he does with passses going down the middle of the field?

Please note "METALMAN" refuses to explain apparent hypocrisy in his posting habits: He casts others as "negative" yet makes the exact kind of comments he accuses others in being negative on. So noted. So confirmed. :applaud:

Nope, just saying with his speed thats how they should.

But as @pczach@pczach said, that’s probably too much for Austin to handle right now. Hill is an 8 year vet.

But Canada does need to stop sending all his receivers out of the same formations. They have Glenn Thomas now, I would hope he could help in this regard.

And needs to implement routes that allow the WR’s to run after the catch. Right now sideline hook routes are a staple in Canadas offense. Does not allow his playmakers to make any plays.
