after seeing how Colon did as guard this year and how well Foster has performed and Castro coming back healthy next season, I won't be surprised to see Colon gone next season. I'm sure his cap is about $3mil/yr.
I really wanted Colon to do well this year but seem to have taken a step back. He had too many penalties over and over (similar penalties) and has injury problem the past 3 years. Others I don't think will be back are Casey Hampton and Larry Foote.

Hope Colon is gone. To me he's not much better than Kemoeatu, always committing dumb penalties. The combined IQ of Kemo and Colon are slightly less than Ben's shoe size. We need to take the Patriot approach and find offensive lineman who are smart and disciplined.

we should at look at players from Stanford again. they've produced some good smart players the past several years including DeCastro.

Colon has made a small fortune from the Steelers and:
    a) Hasn't lived up to his salary
    and
    b) Can't complete a full season without ending it on IR.

The only way I bring him back is if he'll play for the vet minimum, and then he would be depth only.

It's funny cause several years ago, he was considered the best OL on the team. I guess that tells us how bad the OL was several years ago. As for the tackles, I hope Adams, Gilbert and Starks come back but with Starks making the min salary.

True enough. Given our o-line by committee, sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't be looking for durability first in our prospective OL, and everything else second.

I am definitely liking the potential of this young line. With Adams and Gilbert back healthy next year, I would love Starks as the swing tackle. OR maybe Gilbert is a LG to replace Colon? I might like that second option better. Gilbert seems a little heavy-footed for tackle.

If I had to choose to keep Colon or Starks, I choose Starks.

Beachum will be the swing tackle at a much cheaper rate.

I would keep Starks as the starter next year. This guy has solidfied the oline for the past two years. Starks is the best tackle on the team hands down and so many people want to ride this guy out of town. I would extend him a contract and leave him there. Adams, Gilbert or Beachum has not proved to me that they can handle the left tackle position. They can barely handle the right side. If anything, Beachum has out played Gilbert and Adams.

Starting line next year: Starks, Foster, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert.
Adams, Beachum, Legursky and draft pick.

Colon might be back because of his salary but he would not see the field unless he improves.

I'm not sure why everyone's hating on colon right now.... i saw his move tp guard as a success. yes, he atarted out slow, but as he grew into the position, he really started to lead the way for the other linemen... his mean streak was catching on and the line was really looking solid... i actually read on pro football outsiders that colon was rated as the 4th or 5th run blocking guard in the league, and the 6th rated pass blocking...... i strongly believe that he had a legitamate shot at a pro bowl selection...... if people are going to call for his head, then let it be because he can't stay healthy, not because he can't handle the position

Holding penalties don't help people's perceptions of his play.

starks the best? OMG. watch the games. max starks sucks as a LT i can't believe people keep thinking starks and colon are worth keeping. amazing.

we can also cut colon into two years of dead money. not that unheard of.

gilbert is to heavy footed for the tackle position???? are you kidding? that would be twice as bad at guard. thats been our problem all year. guards that can't move. why put another one there? i think we've gotten so used to bad line play that you all actually think it's good. we need a LT and a LG in the worst way. i am so sick of the same problem holding us back. you guys have to quit convincing colbert that they are good. you think like he does. colon and starks must go. my God enough of the foolishness.

Yeah I am definitely NOT a Colon fan. Gilbert is 2nd on my crap list. I also don't see the big deal with Max either. I mean he's always showing up overweight. Ben loves him and feels really comfortable with him so that might count for something but I don't think the Rooney's are all THAT sold on Starks. But if we owe Colon 7.6 million plus the Steelers just gave him some team award if you remember I highly doubt they will let him go anyway.

we can make colons cap hit be around 2.7 mil or somewhere there about next year if cut after june 1. he will count around 4.5 mil as dead money in 2014 when the cap should rise. easier to swallow. we had about 9.5 in dead money this year. we really don't have alot of choice but to get younger next year.

Just imagine if Starks was not here the last two years. You would have had Adams at left tackle this year and Jonathan Scott the year before. You can't tell me either one of these guys are better.

not true. they could have made a move for someone. gilbert was here last year and to start this year. we already had max on the books for 2 mil. this year. he only cost us a minimum amount to sign this year. they chose to keep scott last year. he played bad but so did max. they should have made a move for a good LT other then gilbert. again good money after bad. colbert should never be able to pick our linemen. pouncey was a can't miss type player. the others are suspect. beachum was a great 7th round pick. adams was a rookie but played pretty well once he was used on the right side.

Hmm, they would have made a move? They've tried making moves and guess who keeps coming back?

Like Troy, Colon has been plagued by injuries the past few seasons. Unlike Troy, we have a capable replacement for Colon, and also unlike Troy, I really don't see Colon taking a pay cut to stay with us. I consider myself a Willie Colon fan (I don't think he holds any more or less than any other lineman out there; he got caught a few too any times early in his career and he's scrutinized now by the officials), but if there's a way for him to walk that doesn't cost us money, I'm for it.

Exactly!! I wonder who that move would of been. I don't see many starting left tackles sitting at home. Plus with our salary cap problems I don't see that happening.

And the thought of Gilbert playing left tackle would be a sight to see.

I'm not saying Starks is a pro bowler but he's handled Suggs this year, Ware most of the time in the game and pretty much keeps Ben's blind side protected. I could not imagine any of our tackles (Adams, Gilbert, Beachum) doing any better.
