I'll tell ya one thing, this season and the 09 season have seriously screwed Tomlin's stat lines.

That is a good find and very true, I am just wondering how much of that is rule changes. Defenses in general just can't stop the elite QB's anymore, Manning/Breeze/Brady are going to get theirs no matter what D they face.

I dont know if cowher lost two AFCC games or if it was stewarts 3 picks in each one that lost them, I tend to blame stewart for those two losses: Then there was the 95 superbowl, when Neil Oddonnell tossed two pick sixes to give that game away to dallas, It's one thing when the coaching gives games away, but it's quite another when quarterbacks give them away, just like sunday, Ben gave that game away with a pick in OT, blame the coaches for the things they control, but QBs throwing picks isnt something they can control and it seems the important games we have lost in the past and as late as sunday involved quarterbacks and stupid picks...

Cowher took six teams to AFC title games. In the two seasons he won, in 95 and 05, he did a masterful coaching job. I don't have a problem with three of the four AFCCG losses. The 1994 loss against the Chargers is the one that will haunt me forever. The 2001 loss to the Pats was a little easier to take because the Pats won it all and seemed like a team of destiny. What stung about the 2001 loss was that the Pats won on a punt return and blocked FG return, and it didn't help that bettis wasn't close to 100%. In 1997 and 2004, the Steelers simply lost to better football teams. period. It didn't matter where the game was played. In both, the Steelers had QBs who were starting for the first time. It was amazing they got that far.

I think what this thread really shows is how easy it is to either heap blame on or deflect blame off a head coach. We can point to Cowher's championship games, but blame it on Kordell. We can watch Ben throw interceptions, and blame it on Tomlin. We can say that "if" they had better players they would do better...

The thing is, a HC isn't just a technical job. They are also a figurehead, and a symbol. That's very difficult to quantify in terms of how they affect wins and losses.

    Interesting discussion, though.

if the coach let them keep doing dumb things they will never learn , kick them in the ass put an injuction every fumble bench them shout , the problem is nobody is fearing tomlin , look around everybody say what they want to the media , this team can be good need only a strong master leadership from the head coach , a military one[/QUOTE]

Tomlin benched all the RBs in the 1st Browns game due to fumbles. Mendenhall is still suffering from that.
