For me, if Pickett and our offense take the next step and we win at least one playoff game, I'm going to be happy...Of course, if they're going to lose in the playoffs, I want it to be against a very good team and that the steelers are at least competitive in that game

Winning a playoff game and pushing a good team to the brink in the 2nd round. Anything less than a playoff win is a disappointment this season.

If we are competitive of course, but honestly when you are in the process of building you need to get the 'old monkey' off your back. We need to be in the play offs, and ww ne need that first play off win, I want more of course, for some teams just getting to the play offs is a win and it can build expectations for the future. For us we have had such lousy results in the last decade, we need win and dare say need to be at least competitive in the 2nd round, if lose, do so in the last second FG or such. It shows we are heading in the right direction..though all if this talk is meaningless when KP holds number 7 in 24 lol.

    Goal #1: Win the division
Goal #2: Homefield throughout the playoffs
    Goal #3: Win the SuperBowl
    Same as every year.

A successful season is a different question though. Success is making the playoffs. Period. 7of16 AFC teams will accomplish that. The Steelers need to be 1of7.

Yea know originally, I would say "making the playoffs."

But as the chain of events unfolded - including looking so impressive in preseason - I can't help in getting greedy and want a play off win. And I know, I know that the preseason doesn't mean anything but I can't help but be influenced by the results and generally how we looked and executed. I am sensing a "new team chemistry and attitude" brought on by Kahn and Weidl. There is something tangibly different with this team, and the new 'tude is effecting Tomlin himself.

So I am not just basing this off preseason performance alone. I also think Kenny graduating from rookie status being a large part of team quality. (Let's be honest, what NFL great QB started off impressively as a rookie? Bradshaw, Elway, Montana, Manning - none impressed as rookies.)

Face it, this team has graduated from "business as usual" which includes some questionable practices under Colbert/Tomlin. For instance, if things were the "same old way" they would have re-signed Derek Watt - and his completely unproductive ways at $3.5 million per year - if we were operating on a "business as usual" manner. Kahn is here to say "not so fast, we aren't operating on 'whoever is buddies with Mike is in' basis."

And coaches and players feel it. Kahn isn't setting up as an @sshole, he does things with a friendly feel, but the nonsense has hit a red light. And the players seem to be reacting.

For those reasons, I am holding out for a playoff win where we hopefully do NOT give up 40+ points for a 4th playoff game in a row. (We have given up 40+ point our last 3 playoff games; tough to win like that.) And then we put up a real fight in the 2nd playoff game, if we don't make the AFCC game.

Yes, the AFC is full of really good QBs, but who says we don't got one too in Kenny? Mahomes, Allen, Rogers, Lawrence, Burrow, Herbert - maybe even Jackson and Watson - are all really exceptional QBs. Nothing says Kenny can't be among them and we have the rest of the team too. It's a new era in Pitt. We need a playoff win. End the 6-year streak.

A successful season to me is Pickett proving he is the franchise quarterback, regardless of the team’s record. He was already an older rookie last year, and anything short of significant progression this year may cause the team to consider a reset at the position. Drafting the wrong quarterback can set a team back years, so Pickett needs to prove this year that he’s the guy.

To bring up an old catch phrase in these parts: "Going 19-0 this season will mean nothing.................. if they don't bring home #7!" :lolol:

You are right on a few accounts: KP is older than most 2nd-year QBs. Fact. Choosing the wrong QB does set a franchise back for years, especially if said team takes too long to figure out they got the wrong QB (i.e. the way Pitt handled Kordell Stewart.) I really think the Steelers will be slow to move off of Kenny as their starting QB, even if he moves just to say, middle-of-the-pack in QB rating, from a 76 (2nd to dead last, only worse QB was Jets' Wilson) to say an 85. But I fully expect him to move into at least the 90's.

Art II chose Kenny personally and he will be slow to admit he made a mistake. The good news is I don't believe he has - unless KP has a concussion problem.

Pickett definitely needs to take a big step forward this year, but I don't think his age really matters all that much. I think a team would at least consider its options if any quarterback doesn't show something by the end of his second season.

Play off win. Lose in the second round for some bull**** reason. Come back next year (pissed off) and win it all.

It's important if the Steelers don't win the division that they finish with the #5 seed. This means they play the #4 seed, a team like the Jaguars. Not an easy task but certainly better than a first round matchup with one of the big 3, Chiefs, Bills and Bengals.

I agree to a point. Matters who that playoff team is. IMO....I don't mind losing as much to that years SB champion....I do mind losing to a team that gets spanked the very next game.

My head tells me that making the playoffs and having at least one post season victory will be a successful season.

My heart says “screw that!” I’m a fan of the greatest sports franchise ever so nothing short of no. 7 will make this season a success!!! :towel::towel::towel::yeehaw::yeehaw::yeehaw::steelflag:

Pittsburgh a small city. I consider myself very fortunate to have been around for 14 Pro Championships. I'd love to see 15. Understand it won't be the Pirates. No complaints with the Penguins but that great run is over. The Steelers are the only real chance for another Championship. Super Bowl or bust for me. At the present moment I feel the next 3 years we could win one. If Kenny pans out I like this crew. Of course injuries and salaries can ruin things.

Agreed. That is why I was so frustrated by the Steelers just missing the playoffs. If the Jets beat the Dolphins the final week of the season, I think the Steelers would have had a real shot at beating the Bills in the playoffs.

Playoffs or Bust. A playoff win. Then carry the momentum into the following week. No playoffs=Fail.
