Really? Wasn't he pretty cheap coming off a rookie deal as a 3rd rounder?

13 millions per year is a lot especially with the salary cap which was going to drop the following year because of the pandemic and the steelers already had Tuitt and Heyward at the D-line at this time...The steelers were in a salary cap hell at this time too

He was a free agent. What he had been making was irrelevant. They already had huge investments in Heyward and Tuitt on the defensive line, and nobody could have known what would happen to Tuitt. This is pure hindsight on your part, so just more of your trolling. Did you respond yet to the relentless and justified mocking you've been getting on the Willis and Taylor threads?

Interior defensive lineman that can rush the passer are a premium in the NFL. He got a big contract.

He signed a 3-year $39,000,000 deal with the Eagles.

I wanted him badly in the draft. I was thrilled when they picked him. He turned out to be a monster. They couldn't afford to keep him and made a hard choice.

We couldn't afford him. When you have a franchise QB, generally you aren't able to spend 50 million bucks on your starting defensive line alone (3 man front to boot). We kept Heyward and Tuitt. Can't say we made the wrong decision, just some unfortunate unforeseen circumstances that ended Tuitt's career early. He was every bit as good as Hargrave is. Heyward is better. We will find another guy to play DL. We always do.

Don't forget that the Eagles offered Hargrave a chance to play every down and specifically rush the passer, not do the dirty work that the Steelers still ask their DT to do. Also, with Tuitt and Heyward in front of him, Hargrave was never going to be a full time player here.

Now, a few years later, Hargrave made the right decision. He cashed out with that Niners contract by being in a better position to showcase his talents.

Agree. Kinda strange this was posted today with the news of cuts and Dotson trade. Don't think one needs to be on any board to know that the cap dropped like 20+m, if not way more, the COVID year.

It makes a little sense with the 49ers coming to town for the opener, but I really think this was Benny's way of slapping back because so many posters are mocking the troll on the Taylor and Willis threads.

We’ve been over this before, but it was cap.

The team already had significant money tied up in the DL with Heyward and Tuitt under contract. They couldn’t afford Hargrave too.

Now if the team had predicted Tuitt would retire at 28, they likely would have given his money to Hargrave instead, but at the time Tuitt was a beast and the better long-term bet.

Given that she deserves none, that's fair.

Ever hear of the salary cap Benny? They were already paying Tuitt and Heyward quite a bit of money, and Hargrave only played about 35% of the snaps.

They wouldn’t pay a part time starter what he wanted.

bad the way it turned out, our run defense really suffered as a result of Hargrave leaving, but also because of the following:

    Tuitt retiring
Devin Bush turning into a flop
    Spillane and Schobert being underwhelming
    VW retiring

Just bad luck, hopefully the Steelers will rebound in that department.

I’ll be honest, never liked letting him go and wish the Steelers could’ve found the money to resign him

    Nah...

Green was dealt a $#!t situation by Mike T. Benny does this for attention knowingly. Two different cases here.

That said, I do overall agree with your overall conclusion. :drinks:

Wait a minute...how is Mike Tomlin to blame for Green?? Or are you just one to blame MTfor everything including your child taking a dump in your cereal??
