Well, to be fair he is like 3rd string guard. Sure, it would've been nice to have Dotson around if we sustain multiple guard injuries... but Herbig sees the field before Dotson at G. Either side. They must feel good enough about Anderson and/or Cook at G to be emergency options to make a move like this.

 

I'd be shocked if we go after another CB unless its a Pierre type guy. We have Peterson and Porter Jr.; Wallace is a fine player. Two guys in Sullivan and Riley at slot... idk. We seem ok at corner.

Don't be shocked if it is a back up C.

Are they cutting Green? I noticed him getting preseason reps at G as well.

 

Herbig was above him in the depth chart and the Steelers weren't going to pay Dotson his salary when he wouldn't even be active most weeks. He'd have likely been cut anyway. Either way we just saved 1.8 million in cap space.

Also remember when we're switching our picks it'll likely be a high 4th round pick for a low 5th. It's conceivable we'll pick 50 plus spots higher. I'd say we got a lot more for him than we'd have gotten had we just cut him.

 

I was thinking of a tweet today, said he feel Pierre makes the 53, but not to be surprised if he gets replaced before the week is out. C is indeed another option.

 

Well there is also that. Maybe not? They HAVE to be thinking of him as a G only... after whiffing multiple snaps in the pre-season, he certainly can't be counted on to successfully snap a football.

Yeah. If they think they can upgrade him, sure. It won't be a big name or big money pick up if we are signing a CB.

 

They do not. That was the original point I was making. Dotson was 3rd string G behind Herbig. Only way he would've played is if we suffered more than one injury to the G position. Anderson can play up and down the line, and maybe they think Cook could also be a G option despite being primarily a RT. I'd find it hard to imagine a world where we think Green deserves a roster spot ahead of either of those two guys, but I've seen stranger things.
