I didn't pay tons of attention to the oline tonight, how'd DeCastro hold up for his first real outing?

he missed alot of blocks. a couple of times he helped on a double and let a man in front of him go. once he done it and looked at beachum so it may have been beachums fault. he is a rookie to

I don't think he is at fault on that play. He did release Spencer but the ball should have been out by then. Ben pulled it down and was going for yet another pump fake. So yes he did give up a sack it was an understandable rookie mistake and he probably should know that there is no such thing as a timing play with Ben. You have to hold your block to you hear a whistle.

As important as his blocking assignments (made or missed) - he had no holding penalties or false starts which is amazing with all the time Ben took to toss a couple of his passes today as well as an indoor road crowd of 95,000 (less 15k Steeler fans). So..........not bad for his first NFL start.

I bet he may have played tentatively due to this being his first NFL start and coming off an injury.

I'm going off memory, but it looked like him and Beachum were over there and Spencer? was the only one to block. Don't know what beachum was doing that far back there if that was the case though.

The first sack he was just flat out beaten on. That was the two yard sack. The one where they turned a man loose looked like a miscommunication between DeCastro and Pouncey. If I had to guess, I'd say DeCastro was in the wrong. He took Pouncey's guy, and left his guy free, and I have no idea why. Even if Beachum had picked up David's guy, Beachum's guy would have been free. Pouncey was like, "what the hell? I have no one to block" and then it was too late. So I think he allowed two sacks. But I'll check out his whole performance later. Let's keep in mind it's the man's first NFL game and he's coming off a crazy knee injury.

That what I was saying he had good positioning on Spencer and just released him thinking Ben had thrown the pass only he hadn't and Spencer ran Ben down from behind.

Yeah I was actually thinking that Beachum missed the block that allowed that HUGE sack where Spencer came running free. I do know that DD gave up at least one sack that will for SURE be on him. Our whole line just choked in the clutch I think.

In-game adjustment at the right time. This is what people want the Steelers to do. They changed up the blitz in crunch time! It worked.

Yep probably so and this is why I think this team absolutely blows chunks when it comes to situational football. Why WOULDN'T you be ready for the heat when you know it's coming down the stretch. Mental mistakes are back breakers!

I remember the Patriots talking about having dedicated situational football time. Not on the field stuff, but the mental aspect. What to do when this happens, when the clock is below 2 min don't do this...etc. Seems like that needs to be part of a daily thing for this team. Lightning rounds in the film room.

nothing official but , by my count he gave up 1.5 sacks , missed several blocks trying to help out Beachum ( some times un needed ) and failed to get any push at all in the run game .... other than that he played well ....

It is not all on him but he gets no pass either ...

Foster and Pouncey did not look much better when you consider we lacked push from our interior linemen and got next to nothing in the run game between the tackles .... Mind you they where playing vs a front 7 that started their 3rd string NT 2nd and 3rd string ILB'ers , and an Injured Demarcus Ware and we could accomplish nothing in the run game up the gut ???? not good sound football on our part IMO and next to Brown they are the goat of the game in my book

I thought DeCastro looked real good. He held his block for Dwyers rushing score and when he gave up a sack he was visibly pissed and trying to figure out what went wrong. I like that. So many times the oline is zombie faced this kid has heart and determination, he's going to learn and succeed.
