I was high on the pick when we drafted him he has done very little to date , but the plays where so obvious he was trying to do to much and he was literally making the play on himself ..It seems he may have turned a corner and hopefully the play designs have as well..

It is clear to see he has game breaking speed and could be a monster in open space , camp reports are great and you guys know I usually hitch a wagon to a long shot or 2 so with that said I guess he will be the guy I pimp this year ..

Plus this is no knock , but just facts Ben didn't like PA he didn't like turning his back to the Defense , he was not very good at throwing swing passes or selling the screen.. A different style at the QB spot might be just what the DR. ordered to get some big plays from Mcfarland ... Crazy predictions coming soon..lol..

    Still 3rd string though.

Better get a ST gig if he wants to make the team.

You do know that McFarland is running with the 1st team. All those catches you see him making are being thrown by Kenny Picket.

I don't know where you put your 3rd Down pass catching back on the depth chart. He is not the guy that replaces Najee if Najee goes down, but he will be the guy that replaces Najee when they want to be aggressive and push the ball down the field.

You got all this from the bits and pieces we get to see from practice? Just stop. They aren't taking touches away from Warren for McFarland, especially given that he latter needs to prove he can actually pick up a blitz.

No the correct saying is....all those catches You see him making are in practice in training camp. I want Him to be great, and He maybe this year, but He has been a training camp monster before, and did nothing in regular season. I believe I will use the wait ,and see approach this time.

Part of my new job! Got two now! Was disappointed I couldn't join you all for the 2023 Mock Draft the Site Held.

Hopefully in 2024 I have more leeway. Already have my Top 50 in the books for now.

I don't put much faith into McFarland, seems like injuries take a toll on him and his is often out.

Gonna be hard to get many looks, heck Tomlin thought he had to have Najee in for 50 Snaps a game, until Warren opened his eyes a bit

    Your McFarland HATE runs deep.

And, when I see McFarland running with the 1st team offense in Preseason games, you will say it doesn't count because it is only Preseason. :)

I would say it is meaningless in telling us what will happen during the regular season, yes, because the smart thing to do is limit the carries your feature backs get in preseason games. The Steelers are looking to get Warren more touches this season, not fewer. That is why they talked about running more formations with him on the field with Harris. Seriously, how do you not know this?

Agreed, I would expect Najee to skip most of the preseason and just play a series or 2 with Pickett and the 1st team.

Can we afford to have a 3rd RB who isn’t a big special teams contributor? My guess is that he’s auditioning for the PS.

Maybe Hagans. Maybe they bring Snell back. I read that Heyward has gotten some decent snaps at RB.

To me McFarland is a guy who really needs to be a top 2 back on a team to be in the 53 man roster. Maybe the Steelers will see it differently.

That is the burning question. if it is McFarland its only going to be on 3rd down. And what about special teams? He ain't just going to sit there and wait till his number is called. Strap up for special team duties

I don't even buy the idea of him getting regular-season reps on third down, at least not if the top two backs are healthy. Why would he get reps ahead of Warren?

Jaylen runs a 4.55 forty Mcfarland has been clocked at 4.34 forty .. Jalen has a athletic score of 60 ..Mcfarland has a athletic score of 69.. Jaylen is the better RB as a pure runner and as a pass protector , but Mcfarland is the Home run threat on swing passes ,screens, draw plays and as a pass catcher ..Our Offense has problems scoring so we need splash plays this is the reason the Team will use him..

Plus as I stated above that Ben was the wrong type of QB for a Scat RB like Mcfarland.. A mobile QB allows for the fake to the RB and the QB booting out the backside and then the RB runs his route towards the sideline in front of the QB'S face .. If you catch a Team in man coverage it's your scat RB on a LB that probably runs 4.6 or something at best.. This is just 1 play and 1 concept ,but there our plenty 1 more is a simple screen pass where the QB gives and gives and gives ground to allow for the screen to be set up .. The WR's run off the DB'S so if the DL doesn't sniff it out it has huge big play potential again probably putting your RB 1 on 1 with that slower LB .. Again a play that Ben could not and would not run ..

This is the essence of the scat game to get the RB 1 on 1 with the LB , the counter for the D is man/zone or zone concepts forcing them to use more players in the flats and as force on the outside which means less coverage for the deep areas and the middle of the field..Now you have that simple 3 tier concept backside TE running a Flag so he 15 to 20 from QB, RB with the drag at 5 to 10 from the QB, play side WR on streak 35 to 45 yards with backside WR running a deep post 30 to 35 yards as well.. Simple play design it's 1 of KC'S and the Bengals favorites they have many wrinkles , but both those Teams can wring up the scoreboard and this concept is a huge part of that..

Agreed. If the one/two punch are healthy there is no reason to use any other. They can use McFarland on certain plays but he best be out there on special teams. We shall see.
