Anyone watch "A Football Life" about Coach Noll? It was a really good look into his life.

I watched it. It was great! They interviewed Bradshaw and several other players. I thought it was interesting that Bradshaw thought Noll was unfair to him at times but the other players interviewed, including Swann, Ham, Russell, thought that Noll insulated Bradshaw from a lot of abuse. Noll knew exactly what he was doing with Bradshaw.

Yeah I've always thought that they really couldn't stand each other. Chuck Noll has always seemed pretty enigmatic really.

Mean Joe Greene was also interviewed. He teared up while talking about Noll and the other players talk about him in glowing terms and with the utmost respect and reverence. Even Bradshaw understands now why Noll did some of the things he did. Bradshaw finally admitted that maybe all he wanted was a hug from his dad (Noll). It was funny that they then went to Noll's real son and told him about what Bradshaw said and he said he didn't get many hugs from dad either growing up, lol.

LOL! Noll was the bees knees. I've not got to watch it yet either because I forgot to record it. Didn't Bradshaw go like 20 years without speaking to him or something?

He did. I think that was Bradshaw being petty really. Everyone they interviewed said that it was totally a one-sided feud.

In 2003, NFL Films did a Bradshaw special--the best, most complete profile I have seen on him. Steve Sabol interviewed him, in depth, in his home in Texas. It is on the History of the Pittsburgh Steelers DVD.

Bradshaw has always been tough to figure out. The only thing consistent about him is his inconsistency, in all walks of life. But in that special, he talks about Noll as a father figure, and we see a clip of him accepting an award in which he asked Noll to introduce him. For years, Bradshaw wouldn't go back to Pittsburgh. And the longer he stayed away, the more he thought fans would hate him. But finally, if you remember, in 2002 he returned for a ceremony to honor him. If you watch that special, Bradshaw's reflection on that moment will tug at your heart strings. The man is sincere, perhaps too candid at times, and like all of us, has his own set of deep insecurities. He didn't attend Rooney's funeral or Noll's, and he has been criticized for that. But his anxiety over funerals runs so deep that his absence is forgiven--and players who recognize this about him, including Rocky Bleier, never join that chorus of criticism.

Got a feeling JPJ is not going to need any such motivation. JP senior will kick his a@@ if he does not live up to his standard.

I remember watching the playoff loss to the Jaguars back in 2018 and just seeing how the two teams came out of the locker room had me convinced that our team was not ready to play. There was such a huge difference in the focus versus an overconfidence between the two teams that I knew it would not be a good game for the Steelers. Just had that immediate feeling in my gut. Before we knew it the Steelers were down 21-0 and chasing from behind all the way to the undeniable 3 point loss.

Quite a few teams have clunker games against lesser competition but MT plays down to the competition more than most NFL coaches. At least it seems that way to me anyhow.

Chuck Noll. If you didn't give your all you were quickly finding your other life's work.

That was motivation enough if the coach followed through on that. The fact that you would be gone if you didn't play up to his standards was motivation in itself. Noll was not a "players" coach yet they respected him and played hard for him. Maybe there's a lesson in there for Tomlin.

I will never say anything bad against Noll, but it was a different time, and He didn’t have free agency to worry about. We have no clue how that would have affected Him, or His thoughts.

For me... Devin Bush Sr and Jr come to mind I am afraid. I have a much better feeling for JPJ but I still have some cautious optimism there.

Yea but that usually happens in HS and not the pro's.
I absolutely do not see that happening in this situation at all.

ASQ mentioned Devin Bush but he was a headcase all along that they over drafted for. Once injured his sissy skills kicked in big time.
