Washington getting #80 is cool. We haven't had an above average 80 since Plax left.

I’ll never understand why this is important. I get a little bit liking a number, but really who cares?

I even very much understand retiring a number for a cornerstone player.

Why would the Steelers not grant the 0 jersey number? Was there a player with that number that I don’t know who was formative?

Only one Steeler has ever worn #0, QB Johnny Clement back in 1946 through 1948.

Steelers do not like to hand out the single digit numbers unless your a Kicker, Punter, or QB

Remember Melvin Ingram got #8 but that was it

Not sure why they won't let a WR wear #1

I mean Gary Anderson wasn't that special for goodness shake. Good kicker but this isn't Jack Ham or Mel Blount we are talking about.

Because the Rooneys are traditionalists. Which is odd because plenty of receivers wear numbers in the teens. No one can wear 1 because it’s viewed as an individual type thing vs being part of a team, nothing to do with Anderson. Michigan State had the same rule a while back and they also removed names on jerseys as well.

I don’t get it. Let the kids have fun. I’m sure they’d sell tons of Pickens and Washington jerseys if they were allowed to wear 0 and 1.

What a bunch of fatuous nonsense. These should be professional adults. If wearing the number 1 goes to their head then effing penalize or fire them for being an immature child. They are getting paid millions of dollars to win in this business, those numbers and earning them should be the only convo at hand.

    Human beings are stooopid.

I think his 47.0 passer rating secured his hold on the number

    Just a thought

Well I guess Mason Rudolph being #2 was fitting because everyone thought he was #2.

Welcome to branding 101. Lots of player identity is wrapped up in those numbers and whether they stick in ppl's minds. My nine year old daughter liked the number 99 so when I got her a custom retro Pens jersey it had 99 on it and I had to explain why no NHL player is able to wear it now. You look at my screen name and you just know what the 58 is about.

I made the observation last year that I hoped the fans and media wouldn't make a big deal about KP getting the number 8 and him having more stress in living up to being the guy after Ben.

Number 51 is special to me. I can't think of a better FA signing.

It matters a lot for the players. I remember I only wore certain numbers in everything I ever played. It's superstition. LoL. Hell I even remember quiting a company softball team because I couldn't have a certain number....they made a Guy trade with Me. LoL. He sucked anyway.
