John Reinstra - long ago 1st rounder

I remember back in the mid 1980's, Steelers pick a guard very high out of Temple named John Reinstra. He had a short career in Pittsburgh and I was wondering what happened to him. Found this article about him and and what he's doing now. Sort of a sad story. He was coached by Bruce Arians.

There was another guy Tom Ricketts who was drafted by the Steelers in the 1st round in the 1980's and played only 3 years. Can't find anything about him.

 

I read the article a few months back. When it mentions his memory issues, and he is the only one from that period steeler line left it just breaks my heart.

 

He stunk!

 

I was right on a few picks over the years...Hated the Jarvis Jones pick, Edmonds pick, Bush pick...

But Rienstra was one of the ones I loved...I truly thought he was gonna be a stud, 10 year anchor...

I was obviously very wrong...

Yep…I remember calling my local radio station to see if the Steelers first round pick had come across the wire and the girl looked and said they’d picked “John Ry-eenstra”, lol. Back then, you had to get somewhat creative to get sports news since 24-7 instant access was still several years away.

 

I remember his anxiety and stomach issues. Damn shame. Seems like a really good guy.

I don't think He was trying to be rude My Friend. Sometimes it just seems someone is. He just doesn't think He was good. JMO.
